SUPPORT AN INDEPENDENT (AUTHOR - THAT IS)

Hi Guys,

Some of you old timers might remember me from the olden days (also know as "days of yore" or even "Auld Lang Syne" - lets just say it was back before Serenity came out) when I used to frequent FFF. I am now a so-called "Indie author" looking for some support from my fellow Browncoats.

What I’m doing is this: I have the first 10 chapters of my near-future science fiction novel “Emergent Behavior” previewed on a site called Authonomy.com which is run by HarperCollins Publishing. Basically I am asking that anyone here interested in science fiction (and who isn’t) log onto the site and read some of my chapters. If you like the story, then you can vote for it by clicking the icon for "Back the Book" which places it on your virtual “bookshelf.” That’s it! Each month, the top five books with the most bookshelf “points” are reviewed by the editors at HarperCollins, with a chance for publication.

The book is already well-received, but there is so much competition, it is difficult to work your way up the ranks without the support of friends (which HarperCollins actually recommends). Since I can’t think of anyplace else with so many SF fans who might be looking for a new project to support, I came here, hoping for yours.

The link to the main site is:
http://www.authonomy.com

The direct link to my book is:
http://www.authonomy.com/ViewBook.aspx?bookid=3233

You actually do not have to log in to read my chapters, so please feel free to check it out. If you like it, please consider logging in and “backing” my book. While you are there, please look around at the many other books being previewed (over 3000 at this point). If you don’t like Emergent Behavior, you might find something else you like (you can bookshelf up to 5 books at a time).

Thanks,
Joseph Rhea (CupofJoe)

Thanks Stowaway!
And thanks to those of you who have already voted for Emergent Behavior. Every little bit helps!

Here's the pitch in case you might be considering:

-----------------------------

"Emergent Behavior" By The Rhea Brothers

Human minds are trapped inside a digital universe.
One man has a daring plan to rescue them.
One problem: Who will rescue him?

A familiar shape emerges from the darkness in front of him –
a large, metallic gray sphere held up by eight piston-driven
legs sprouting from its top. While he should be terrified, Alek
is strangely fascinated by the Spider as it draws closer – it’s
more than a robot, it’s a living machine. And like most living
things, it’s not alone…

Alek Grey is a programmer in who specializes in preventing
break-ins to secure computer systems. When a company
owned by his estranged father calls him in after their system
is compromised, he is shocked to learn that that his father is
one of over forty people trapped in a revolutionary new form
of neural interface. When an attempted rescue mission goes
horribly wrong, Alek realizes that there is only one way to
save the people he loves.

And that might mean risking the fate of humanity itself.

-----------------------------
You won't see the entire novel there (only the first 10 chapters) but the
story starts out a little Matrix-like, become a little bit Tron-like, then
ends a bit Firefly-like (people becoming a family onboard a ship)

Hope you like it,
Joseph Rhea
