Firefly as an in-flight option? Any airline industry people out there?

SOUPCATCHER

I was inspired by Static's post about bringing 60+ new Browncoats into the fold to think about ways to reach large numbers of people. The Dvds for the troops is one strategy that will reap huge dividends (here's hoping that the desired goal is reached by January 30th).

It has been my experience (and judging from the posts on this board the experience of everyone else) that all you have to do to create a Browncoat is show them Firefly. So how about if episodes of Firefly were available as in-flight entertainment on long flights? This just popped into my head and I'm not sure if it has been discussed already. I also have no affiliation with the airline industry - so I don't know if this is feasible. So does anyone know how airlines choose the in-flight entertainment? Or (blue sky wild dreams scenario) where the DVD player on the airline is located so you can just slip in 'Serenity' on the way to the toilet?

I shaved off my beard for you, devil woman!

TRAGICSTORY

Well if I remember correctly planes use VHS not DVDs and secondly it is a bad idea to show 400 people Serenity breaking down, Serenity on fire exploding, Serenity out of control, Serenity low on gas, Serenity out of air, Serenity out of heat, People getting shot on Serenity and of course Wash's line "We're all going to die who's flying this thinng?" while they themselves are in a flimsy craft 3,000 ft above the earth going 300 mph. If you notice all movies are carefully screened to keep the sheep, I mean customers, from remebering the negative things that can happen on airplanes.

In order for a movie to be shown, it must never show a plane having problems, getting shot down or crashing. This gets "umbrellaed" to include most other flying objects such as spaceships (the airplanes of the future) Of course the Airlines had no problems showing the Titanic sinking and everyone freezing to death while I was flying from Boston to London.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Not a bad idea at all SoupCatcher. As an inflight movie option it would surely net some new fans. As far as them freaking out due to Serenity being out of fuel or anything like that, I would like to think people can separate a TV show from reality and not freak out, but knowing people there is no telling.

Another option I thought of is Suncoast Video Stores. I am sure nearly all of us in the States have walked past a Suncoast store in a mall and have seen the wall of TV monitors showing a featured film or DVD set to promote it. Maybe we even stop to watch, or have seen people watching, as we or the people watching, wait for their significant other.

I am going to swing by the local mall and pitch to the manager I talk to all the time about putting a Firefly disc in the player to showcase for a day or two. Just think of how much exposure it would get if he did that. I will tell him about the show and the possibility of a movie to in case people ask questions.

Anyone else got ideas?

EBONEZER

for more firefly ideas, check out the tread, ask not what firefly can do for you, but what you can so for firefly.

I don't let anbody leave my house after they visit without watching an episode. The boxed set also makes a great gift!

You crack me up! That one was fun.
I know I'll bring my DVD set when I'm on a busstrip again though
