There are many people here who want Firefly back on the air or at the very least as a movie. All of us are bitter and upset with FOX and worried about Universal pulling the movie deal. I don't know if this has been started or not but I believe the time has come for a petition. Make that 2 petitions.

The first petition would go to Universal voicing support for a Firefly movie. The second would go to FOX letting them know of our disappointment of how Firefly wasn't given fair treatment during it's run and that we would like to see the series picked back up. Two petitions are better than one and could only help our chances of getting that 15th episode and beyond.

Like I said, there may already be a petition somewhere but if there is I haven't seen it. The link should be one of the first things you see on this site. After all, it was the continued support of fans that got the Battlestar Galactica movie off the ground!

You must take the one ring to the slopes of Mount Doom, Mr. Anderson.

In a thread labeled "BRING BACK FIRFLY!", we discussed that. We sould send a petition to other stations asking them to pick it up, and send one to Fox for no reason.

Very nice idea, though. If you start one, I'll sign it. (If you manage to find that thread, you'll see my post.)

If you petition, use a private site (like this one). Nothing gets a petition ignored faster these days than it being hosted on petition online...

Actually, if you do a petition, make sure its a hard copy and not an online petition. Online petitions have absolutely no value at all to those that they are directed at.

Start going to sci-fi cons and take the petitions with you. There's a ton of them all over the country so differnt people in different regions can take them to different places. With the exception of this weekend, I generally attend Detroit area cons. (There's one in Troy that I was unable to go to this weekend) There are three or four of them throughout the year. I also have a LOT of contacts amont sf authors who might be willing to take petitions with them to various cons.

If this is a serious petition attempt, let me know and I will make some contacts. If you're just going to set up an online petition, well, that's up to you.

Actually there have been many petitions already started and abondoned.. some were sent to fox at the time of the cancellation, others were sent to the other networks that showed even the slightest intrest in picking up firefly... the fact is.. they all failed.. petitions don't work. you should see the star trek DS9 petition that i actually did have a hard copy of. we had I think 10,000 or more signatures.. and the thing was years old.. nothing ever came of it though.. the studios don't care what fans think.. they only care about $. the best way to get firefly back on the air? introduce other people to it by letting them watch the dvd's.. advertise firefly
s existance on the net opr in your home town.. talk to people about it. If things continue on the road they are now, we may get the movie made and if enough people see it, we might have a shot at getting a second series. negative petitions about how fox was so wrong in cancelling the series, however gratifying, won't help the show in any way.

Petitions have worked for television shows in the past, but they have to have a lot more than 10,000 signatures and they have to get to the network quickly, like within months of hearing "probable cancellation". The last one I remember that worked was a long time ago, however. Pre Fox Network, even. It was for the show Cagney & Lacey.

If Firefly already had a hard copy petition drive done, then another one isn't going to help, unfortunately.

I think letters are more effective than a petition at this point. Being deluged with a flood of good solid reasoning and committed fandom articulated by many individuals is worth a hell of a lot more than a list of signatures. And I don't mean email, I mean written letters.

At this point I think we should forget about Fox. Putting your energy into asking other networks to pick it up and encouraging Universal to go for the movie is a better goal, really. If Firefly becomes a huge monetary and popular success outside of Fox it's going to really rub their noses in it anyway. Ain't never been a better message than a good example.
