Could they remake Firefly in four years time?

So take a TV show, great premise, well acted, snappy scripts and... watch in horror as the combination of a lousy timeslot and worse promotions means that it dies after 15 episodes, some of which didn't even air.

Traditionally this means it gets a posthumous DVD release and thereafter people think what might have been. Obviously Firefly got the movie Serenity. But the Jeremy Piven starring show Cupid is about to get reborn, with a remake/follow-up coming out as a mid-season replacement early next year. New cast and new city but same premise and head honcho behind it:

So, come 2012, what are the chances of Firefly mark 2?

I am not sure they will be able to get the cast back together.

I have always had a good feeling for a return of Firefly. Granted, Joss is always about change and "the next project". I feel he is still as much in love with Fierfly as we are.

Also that dvd set is still in the frikkin top #100 for best sellers at Amazon, so that is obviously a really good sign. A set that sells that many units always garners studio attention. Firefly dvd set is to dvd's what Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is to record sales. A juggernaut!

Like Star Trek their could be a Firefly Next Generation. Or if Joss could get some of the original cast back a Firefly set ten years into the future with some changes. Remember, Summer and Adam are both involved in their own new series and the other cast members may have plans or opportunities forth coming. As you say Joss is always looking ahead. He probably has a list of ideas that would fill a library. He is now occupied with Dollhouse. We may not get more Firefly, but Dollhouse will be Joss's next star. Lets hope it burns bright and long.

Joss has worked on more then one project at a time so he may find some time for a version of Firefly if he can produce a pilot episode that Fox won't mess with. I think whenever Fox exec's pokes their nose into one of their producers projects it should be called a Train Job.

*giggle*

I like that Traveler.

I frankly don't think we're getting more Firefly for a while. Joss is busy, the actors are busy and there's no money to be made by a studio to do it.
Joss has even hinted that webisodes wouldn't make enough money.

I'm not saying never, cuz Joss himself says he'll never say never...but I'm not holding my breath.
Instead I'm going to enjoy all the good things out there, keep introducing people to Firefly ( because I love it and I suspect they will too! ) and enjoy being here in the 'Verse.

I liked the first Cupid- I hope I like this one too!

I know it's cruel of me to say, but I doubt Firefly will return. It was great, but it was unlucky.

Thankfully, Firefly has moved onto new mediums, like the Dark Horse comics. Even if there's no more episodes (*sob*), we can still enjoy the comics, the internet sites etc.

But if Joss could raise enough interest, spend enough time, get some of the original crew together... who knows?

Or, since the world of Firefly is such a good one, could he start a new sci-fi set in it?

Joss called up Nathan about Dr. Horrible http://drhorrible.com and before Joss explained anything at all, Nathan said "Yes". Joss hasn't written off Firefly/Serenity. Nathan hasn't given up hope. Summer hasn't either. Jewel said she would do it in a heartbeat.

We hold.

Not cruel of you to say. It may be so.

But it also may be so, since Joss himself says "I never say never." that Anony is right too...everyone who worked on Firefly loved it and have all said they'd do it again in a minute...so as Anony says "We Hold.".

Lots of stuff to do ( Dr. Horrible, BSG, DollHouse, Summer's show, Nathan's new show )and lots of great people to hang out with. So we do good stuff ( Browncoats are known for their charity work! ) and enjoy each other's company.

I suppose the best thing to do then is to not give up hope- if just some of the original actors still love the show then perhaps...
Even if we don't get the complete original cast (I must remember to check up what they're all up to now), we could still have the show, there'd just be some new characters on board Serenity.

We can only hope- and support Firefly as best we can.

LOL.
I have to admit a big dislike for 85% of what Fox does.
Every time I think of Fox, I hear "Two by Two. Hands of Blue" in my head...
I hold hope that life will be breathed back into the Old Girl. 'Cuz she is a good ship.

I could just see Jayne in ten years time with one of the old folks strollers saying, "I smell a lot of if coming from this... No, that is me it's coming from."

Fox doesn't have to give up the rights to the show - they can SELL the rights, or let some other network take a chance on the show with some money for Fox on the licening and merchandising, and some spec money on the back end if it works out...

Or Fox could put it on one of their affiliated networks, like FX, where grittier stuff (The Shield, Rescue Me, The Riches, Dirt, Damages, etc.) has already found a pretty fertile ground.

You see, Fox really wouldn't have to put up much of anything, just an agreement to let it air on another network, or to put it on FX. Another production company would put up the money, and Fox would get a percentage of any profits after a certain point.

Just a thought...

COULD they do it? Certainly. WOULD they do it? Well, the cast and crew have pretty much already said, emphatically, "YES!"

But WILL they do it? Who knows? Who can figure how network execs think? Getting inside a Fox exec's head might turn out to be a very unpleasant place to be...
