Mine would definitely be in "War Stories" when Mal and Wash are being tortured by Niska. Wash says that Zoe always listens to Mal and he replies that she doesn't...when questioned about this, he shouts "She married you!"

Man oh man, I'm not sure if he says it to keep Wash awake or if something really happened there.

LOVEd it though, certainly caught me by surprise.

*********SPOILERS FOR THOSE THAT HAVEN'T WATCHED THEIR DELETED SCENES YET*****************

Sounds kinda wierd putting this response in a category called Fireflygasms, but the deleted scene from Our Mrs. Reynolds where River just so happily announces that she wants Book to marry her and Simon was just priceless. She's so happy, Simon's more shocked than a careless electrician, and Book... I think he he thinks it's kind of cute, peculiar ol' buzzard.
A close second would be Jayne and Mal's exchange after Ariel. It told a lot about what they were really like, and revealed sides to each other they probably didn't recognize before. Plus, I was foaming at the mouth for what Jayne had done, but in the end, his line "Don't tell 'em what I done... make somethin' up." pretty well redeemed him for me.

oh man, theres a bunch. Im going to put all the ones i can possible think of, in no kind of order.

Can't remember the episode but after Mal yells at kaylee (the "did monkeys get loose in the engein room?" thing) he says something like, kaylee leaves, and mal folowes, then sticks his head back in and goes "you got time to do my hair?"

in the message-Wash comes into the room with the "alein life form" and goes "Oh my god it's grotesqe, oh look a thing in a jar."

war stories - wash "Now I'm learning about carrying."

the message - Zoe is saying something about how in war you have to be stealthy and quiet, and mal comes screaming on shoutung "You want me? Come and get me!"

Heart of gold - kaylee "Did you notice something funny about the cap'n this morning?"
wash "Of course not, we all know I'm the funny one"

then of course theres the "This land" and the "Chain of command" lines, totaly clasic.

and i love how this is then intercut with book being shot...classic whedon

You know. . .The song has particular meaning to me for three reasons. The more obvious reason being that I'm an aviator, and flying is, for anyone that's done it, a truly singular experience. . .whether you're flying a medevac, a heavy lifter, or a gunship (like myself).

The second reason is a bit more poetical. On my recent 'world tour' with the military, I've come to realize that while this world is a great big jigsaw puzzle, lots of pieces of water, lots of pieces of land. . .the whole world only has one sky. Unbroken and shared by all. As long as there is one single sky, I'm connected with my friends and family.

The third reason is a great deal more poetical. Terrorists can try to take our resolve, our strength, and those things and people we love. . .but they cannot and will not ever take away our sky, which has always been a universal symbol of hope. Which, incidentally, is why I am so proud to fly a gunship in this war. . .because I am quite literally protecting the sky. . .the symbol of hope. . .from those who would destroy hope.

Just a thought or two. I tend to ramble a bit.

"Wash. . .we got some local color happening. A grand entrance would not go amiss."

This was posted by Joss on the buffista board...

Hey guys. Sorry to go wildly off-topic (and bring up Firefly), but I need a favor. I tried to post something on Fireflyfans.net discussion about "Fireflygasms" (no, it's not as shippery as it sounds.) Anyhoo, I can't seem to log in, 'cause I work the computer like I'm wearing Strongbad's gloves and I really wanted to post something there. So I'm gonna write it out here and hope 'n' pray (to the meaningless void) that one of y'all will be kind enough to kick it over to that thread. Okay then:

______________________

Dear fan type postguys --

Checking in to say: Rough @%&$#ing week. Trying to work the movie deal, juggling so many balls and dropping them all, basically ending the week going, "I'm done. I'm tapped. Last man down, I don't even think I can do this." Then I hap on this thread, hear all those kick moments and all y'all cooing over them, and I remember why I'm fighting so hard. So when you here dorky sounding things like "The fans' support kept us going", know that on occasion it is not only literally but very specifically true. As in, today. Thanks already.

And, more importantly:

-- Inara on the bed in Mal's room saying "I just hit my head is all". Deep funny.

-- River on the railing. Batgirl!

-- "Little man Loooved fire."

-- "They were little geisha dolls with big heads that wobbled!" "People LOVE those!" Kai made me rewind that four times.

-- "Dear Diary. Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy."

-- "Have you ever been with a warrior woman?"

-- "She ain't moving." When you think Kaylee's talking about Zoe and realize she means Serenity. And every time the lights first flicker in that show I've forgotten what ep I'm in and I get very worried.

-- The part where the crew finds out about River's REAL... oh wait. That's the movie. Never mind.

Or mind in a while.

Thanks again.

VETERAN

Don't squat with your spurs on.

The first three off the top of my head are all from "Our Mrs. Reynolds."

I like the whole "Special Hell" exchange between Book and Mal. Then as Saffron seduces Mal he says,"I'm going to the Special Hell."

The Good Bible/Good Myth lines.

Jayne, "You gotta a wife! All I got was that dumb stick, sounds like its raining."

Then there's "War Stories"

When Mal is keeping Wash going during the initial torture session.

Then when Mal slaps the torture machine on the Niska's henchman, looms up off the table and says to Niska, "So you want to know the real me!."

Then at the end when Zoe says, "Take me, Sir. Take me hard." The way they're holding hands it almos t looks like they're about to start ballroom dancing.

In "Shindig"

Zoe: "I think he knows which end (of a sword) to hold."

Wash's impromptu poetry about his dearly departed Zoe ..."All corpsified and grotesque."

After River's speech to Badger when Jayne says, "That right there was the kind of diversion we could've used."

When Mal comes back and Jayne says,"We were just about to spring into action...."

"Train Job"
The scence where Jayne tries to take over, but it's too late because the doctor has arlready drugged him. And he collapses mid-mutiny. They tried to get him to his bunk but couldn't and leave him on the landing. Where he's in perfect postion to shoot Crow.

There are too many. Gotta be like three or four a show.

Just a short hop off-topic:

STATIC: Just wanted to hop in and say it makes me well up with pride and all manner of other fuzzy emotions that there is at least one Browncoat who Gets It patrolling our sky, spreadin' the word, and sticking it to the Reavers! May the wind be at your back...or under your rotors (all hail Bernoulli!)...or something like that. Keep Flyin'!!

And, as for 'gasms, I have to go (today) with the way the "old saying" in "The Message" is never completed till the end of the episode, when we've 'earned' it. Bit of a workout for the old tear ducts.

That, and the fact that Joss is able to draw some psychic juju from us fans. The gods know, he's bestowed more than our share to us!

Objects in Space. The whole thing. Wow. "Well, here I am." Powerful stuff!

The sudden shot of Inara bawling in Heart of Gold was a beautifully poignant slap in the face that really made the episode for me.

"I was aimin' for his head!" Cracks me up every time.

The crew's reaction at the start of Our Mrs. Reynolds was as priceless as it was real. The look on Inara's face when Mal complains that he's the only one who doesn't find the situation funny was perfect. Man, that was/is a perfect cast!

Mal kicking Crow through the engine at the end of The Train Robbery made a fan of me. Mal's "I don't believe he does," made it for life.

Kaylee's experience at the party in Shindig, from "Yes sir, Cap'n Tightpants!" to questioning the buffet table to being saved by the gentleman to holding court with the men; I loved every minute of it.

Let's see some of my favorites are

Serenity:
Mal, all upset at Simon for putting them in at odds with the feds, wants to find out what it's all about, kicks off the cryo door, sees River, beat "huh..".
I don't know why, but something about the way he says, "huh" just makes me laugh.

Out of Gas:
Simon: "What can I say, my sister is a ship; we had a complicated childhood."

Jaynetown:
Zoe: "River, come out of there."
River: "No!, TOO MUCH HAIR."
Zoe: "It's ok River; he's putting the hair away."
River: "It will still be there, waiting."

Heart of Gold:
Kaylee: (with envy at seeing what she conciders attractive or glamourous prostitutes) Wash, tell me I'm pretty.
Wash: "Were I unwed I would take you in a manly fashion."
Kaylee: "..because I'm pretty?
Wash: "..because you're pretty."

Shindig:
Mal: "Yeah, it takes a great man (to walk away and leave a man bleeding but not killed after he's down)
:::stab:::
Mal: "well, I'm just a good man"
:::stab:::
Mal: "Well, I guess I'm all right."

To me the favorite moment -er, Flygasm is split. Mal's shooting of the fed without waisting time, and Mal's booting Crow into the intake. Then there is River shooting the three guards, "No power in the 'verse."

Reasons... Mal's scenes- My philosophy in fighting is not to leave a sure enemy breathing because you waist time having to wory about them. If someone has proven that they WILL risk your death without provocation (and that's important) they have negated their right to exist.
The fed was a threat to Mal and his crew in a life or death situation. Crow stated his intent to kill Mal, and that was stupid.
River's scene- Looking helpless isn't the same as being helpless.

Ok, since Joss has taken the time to read this thread (and more, I hope!), I'll add my $.02.

I agree with everything that's been said. Bootin' Crow into the engine did it for both hubby and myself. Hooked from day one.

I also liked the scene in "Heart of Gold" when Inara was just bawling. TOTALLY caught me off guard!

In "OiS", when Mal catches River and tells her...oh, damn! I can't remember exactly what he says. Anyhow, that really showed me that Mal had accepted all of River (even the spooky bits) into his crew.

Also in "OiS", when we see River pick up the gun-shaped branch from a floor littered with flower petals. I think this was a great visual for what was going on in her mind at the time.

Bravo, Joss! *waiting anxiously for movie and series*

My favorite moment is in Serenity when Mal, Zoe, and Jayne are returning from the job (on horses no less) and Simon is holding the Fed at gunpoint unsure of what to do. Mal comes in and shoots the guy straight away and Jayne and him throw him overboard. Simon just stands there while River backs away at the gun. That episode of Angel where Wesley shoots his father on the Rooftop reminded me of this and it was also just as moving. That one can kill so easily when others are threatened.

WILDHEAVENFARM

I can't for the life of me remember which ep; little help?
Zoe: Planet's coming up awfully quick.
Wash: That's cuz I'm going down to fast. Like to crash and kill us all.
Mal: Okay, call me when that happens.

I love that particularly as a crystal example of the sly way the humor is woven into the dialogue.

Mary

IRISANNE

One of the first scenes I ever saw was the one where Kaylee chases River around the ship, trying to get her apple back. Mal turns and yells "SHUDDUP!...one of you's going to fall and die and I'm not going to be the one to clean it up."

I laughed so hard, thinking..."I don't know what this is, but that's definitely not Jean-Luc Picard!"

I was enchanted.

Here's some great 'Fireflygasms' that I don't think have been mentioned as of yet:
- Everyone's reactions to when River claims she's the ship in Objects in Space, particularly Jubal Early's
- Kaylee's "strawberrygasm" (hee) in Serenity
- Kaylee's initial confrontation with Jubal Early in Objects in Space
- The look on Mal's face/his reaction just before he collapses in Our Mrs. Reynolds

PBI

One of my favourite moments was at/near the end of 'Safe', I think it was, when Simon was thanking Mal for coming back to rescue him (Simon) and River. Mal says he came back because Simon was on his crew. Simon makes a comment something along the lines of "But I thought you didn't even like me,", to which Mal replies in a tone as if speaking to a not-too-bright child, "You're on my crew."

That right there pretty much sums up Mal's character, I thought. Wonderful stuff. With dialogue like this, I still shake my head in bafflement at Firefly's cancellation.

If you can survive death, you can probably survive almost anything.

SAINT JAYNE

Damn, I forgot one of the best ones!

Zoe sneaking in back of the Doctor on Ariel. ZAP! "Clear."

I am laughing right here at work thinking about it.

GEORDIESTEVE2003

Got so many, but picking first few that come to mind.

The look Nathan Fillion gives the camera at the end of The Message, with the music, it was just...one of those moments. I then watched extras and found out all other stuff about them knowing they were going to be cancelled and it was one of last things shot I believe, and it all just adds more to that moment.

Other moment, right at the start in Serenity, when I knew I was so caught up in this show, again, the music playing such a big role, is when we see Mal lose all hope, when he sees his backup isnt coming and hope dies in his eyes as the man next to him is killed, and he doesnt even flinch.

Funny one, when Book just shoots one of Niska's henchmen in the leg during War Stories, as if it is something he has been doing all his life (and maybe he has!!!)

Man, really looking forward to the convention this year in the UK and the movie!!!

VERITAS

I just saw the Joss post, and my vocabulary has temporarily shrunk to the word, "Squee!" I was so happy to see that, I just had to come over here and post more of my fave 'gasms.

- "Say goodbye to your daddy, Jonah." in HoG. Too cool.

- Book saying the Bible was fuzzy on the subject of kneecaps.

- "No power in the 'verse can stop me." Should have described the show, but...

Okay, there are just too many good ones to list.

"What'd you all order a dead guy for?"

CHEERIOWENCH

I could choose millions, but here are a handful I don't think I've seen yet:

In Shindig, discussing Kaylee and her Dress --
Mal: You should have seen her when I told her she could have that layer cake she's wearing.
Inara: I think she looks adorable.
Mal: Yeah, but I never said it.

In Train Job, perhaps the first quote that made me fall over laughing --
Wash, on drugged Jayne: Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?

In The Message, the entire final scene. So well done, so moving. Especially when you know it's the last one they filmed.

Finally, and maybe most of all, Objects in Space, River coming back from Early's ship in the huge spacesuit, smiling like mad and looking like a little kid in a snow suit. Really warms the heart.

SHINY

From OiS:

MAL: Am I dreaming?
RIVER (OS): We all are.

Mal rolls his eyes

RIVER (OS): Don't make faces.

Summer's delivery of that line and the reaction from Nathan were priceless.

RIVER
Purple elephants are flying.
MAL
Good. Thanks for the update.
