Check out the website for this upcoming movie. It sounds a little bit like "Firefly meets Pirates of the Caribbean", and the ladies are HOT! The ship, the "Norma Jean" looks cool too!

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

Gimme a little Sasha with my spaceship...

That kite looks like a C-119 Flying Boxcar , after it's been into a chop shop , and been further humped by a B-47 Stratojet...

I LIKE it !

I actually hope this thing does well...It could be good for us...

Despite the planetary Road Warrior vibe , it looks like 'vaporware' right now...

It's more than vaporware, but your right, that it hasn't been shot yet.

The writer/director Ted Smith, has already directed and released one movie, "Guardian of the Realm". That movie was in limited release and was shown on "The Movie Channel" and "Showtime" regularly last year. It was a "Buffy meets Blade" type of movie, shot for about $250,000. Low budget, but not bad considering the limits it was shot under. It looks better, and has a better story than most of the Sci-Fi original movies shot for 4 times as much!

Ted has worked in movie effects for about 15 years, and helped design and build the sets of the derelict ship seen in the "Bushwacked" episode of Firefly. Those sets were built years ago, for a unsold pilot called "Starrunners".

Ted has secured access to these sets, and will update and improve them for the film Space Pirates, set to begin filming later this year.

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

Well we had a TV show that led to a movie. Maybe we will have a movie that will lead to a TV show.

Notice they also carry conventional looking weapons. No lasers or light swords.

Reminds me of the Ice Pirates.

Great! Now I have another SciFi movie to add to my list.

Mmmmm , Bushwhacked would likely be my favorite episode , were I forced to choose...

Spooky and atmospheric...It gives a lot of the same chills as an Aliens film...

Well , Ted deserves heaps of credit for what he's done before...Looks like he knows a thing or two about our 'niche'...

Do you happen to know if the shoot requires Union labor , or is this more of an 'Independent' production ?

I've done film and television work before , and if this gig were to be fun , he could likely count me in...I'm handy in a lot of ways , and could co-ordinate some particulars that could add a lot of value to the production...

Thanks for the additional info , Mac...Much obliged !

It does look a lot like our favourite show in spirit - a freighter, occasional illegality and smuggling... I'm intrigued

I've known the director for years, and he's the one that got me to watch all things Joss. He was a huge Buffy and Angel fan. He got me hooked on those. I watched Firefly from the start because of Joss. Ted was working on the film at the time, and missed it's first run, but I got him hooked when I gave him a set of the DVDs.

It's obvious his love for Firefly influenced Space Pirates. If any of you caught "Guardian of the Realm" in Showtime, you'd see a lot of Buffy like humor. I believe it's still available on Netflicks, if you want to check out his previous work.

FYI, Ted's regular gig is working at a prop house in L.A., and he helped build one of Dr. Horrible's weapons in Act III!

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

Man's got talent , have to give him that...Good taste , too !

Did Ted work around ILM ,(East Coast , not Lucasfilm) before ? I may know him...Does he have a brother named Marshall by any chance ?

Great 'conversion' story , Mac...BTW , what do you do ? Anything 'legit' ?

I will have to find that disc at Netflix...Thanks for the tip !

Here's an Oddity...Looking up 'Space Pirates' on imdb , produces a result that says there's been a Space Pirates TV show before...Obviously , no connection , but how'd we miss THAT ?

'Ice Pirates' pops up , too !

'Conventional' weapons in Space Pirates...Hopefully , no steenking Aliens , either !

VETERAN

Don't squat with your spurs on.

Seems like Firefly reimagined. Is this for real or just a fan thing.

I'm credited as Producer on "Guardian of the Realm". I was very involved with Ted on the story outline, and worked on the film during filming, and post-production. It was basically a bunch of friends making our own movie, without any studio support, just because we love movies and wanted to make something like the low budget genre' movies we grew up on. Because we did it on a ULTRA low budget, with no big names, it was a hard sell to the distributors, but we managed to get it out there.

I was just told tonight, that "Guardian" is still showing occasionally on Showtime, so I guess it's doing well enough for them to keep it in their rotation. I was surprised and happy to hear that!

Ted has told me, if I want to come back to L.A. for the "Pirates" shoot, he'll find a position for me. I hope I can, it all depends on scheduling at this point.

"Veteran", it's definitely "a fan thing", because we're fans of all gerne' movies. Space Pirates definitely has a "Firefly" vibe to it, but it's really a low budget sci-fi horror film. The humor, ship, set pieces and characters would feel right at home in "the verse", but the story will be darker.

Some of the biggest sci-fi fans (and Joss fans) I know, are people that work in the film and TV industry!

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.
