You know how a lot of people pronounce the word ask as aks. I think this might be another case of the same kind of linguistic thing so maybe it was "alls come" which then got pronounced "allcsome" and then got to oxen.

Or I could be off base. It is one of those linguistic mysteries.

The theory currently held by wikipedia is almost certainly wrong.

its worse than a kiss of death, its more like an a$$*#&% of death. i only use it when talking online :-P not even in verbal conversation.

I mean, sometimes people write like they speak, conversational english, but i dont think textspeak can even be considered english..

Our language changes all the time. We were told "ain't" is not a proper word by our teachers and I am looking right at it in my dictionary as I write this. English is a mixture of languages. The Danes invaded England and left some of their words and the Normans brought theirs over when they invaded. Think of all the immigrants who have come to the United States. Us people in the United States don't even use the same words that are used in United Kingdom, yet we both claim we speak English.

Tell me this. Should I use "especial" or "special"? They are both in my dictionary and they both have the same meaning. Is one spelling more proper then the other?

lolz, exactly. languages are fluid, but that *points above* is a stretch. textspeak is abbreviations. yes we have abbreviations in everyday language, but we dont SAY "m-r" when we're saying the word "mister" but i dont think 'ppl' will ever be considered a word. or 'bff' or 'lylas' just can't happen.

not to mention the fact that textspeak also entails cutting vowels out of words, making them not words really. i mean like rly cn u srsly go? omg.

Like Joss throwing in the slang term "shiny" in Firefly. I suspect that our languages will even be more drastically changed then by a few slang terms. But the Chinese was hard enough to understand. I only got the vaguest idea of what the Serenity crew were saying by the deflection of their voice when they used Chinese. It was a good touch. Maybe other writers will use it. From what I understand the cast butchered the Chinese phrases they were given. I am sure there are some people here that know Chinese, I think it was Mandarin, and just cringe when they hear it spoken on Firefly.

lolz XD yeah if u watch the special features, the language coach was like 'you tell them the correct way to say it, and then they totally butcher it. Anyone who knows chinese is probably watching it and thinking "what did they just say??" ' or something to that effect, was the jist of what she said. i can't stand it when people do that with other languages, i agree.

I saw a movie where this German soldier never bathed. When his fellow soldiers started complaining he told them his natural oils mixed with the grim of combat made the perfect mosquito repellent. I think he was just a slob. There was not much they could do about it except throw him in any river they came near. War is bad enough with sleeping next to body that would not die.

We got so much rain early this year that the pests were bad, but it is actually getting dry here in Wiscosin. Considering all the rain damage we suffered it is hard to imagine a dry spell.

One lake got so full that it broke through a dike and emptied into a adjacent river. Took a few houses with it. They actually got film of one home just toppling over and breaking up into kindling.

Can you tell I had caffeine while doing mt laundry tonight.

What it probably did was make a crust, kinda an exo-skeleton, that the bugs couldn't get through. I'd rather get a REAL metal exo-skeleton(think Ripley in Aliens) and just squash them.

Best thing to do once a mosquito bites you: wash the bit area with soap and warm water IMMEDIATELY! It washes away the irritant and keeps the itch from forming.

That works too. When I go hiking, I usually take some Purell with me for the same reason, but the soap and water are truly best b/c it washes away the irritant as oppose to just drying it out.
