Hello fellow browncoat brothers and sisters and conspiracy theorists. Do you believe governments are capable of hiding truths from their populace? How far are they willing to go to keep secrets and their power. Is Elvis alive and running a pizza parlor in Denver? Are Janice and Michael Jackson really the same individual?

I would like to start a new thread and I’m calling it the “Conspiracy, Random equation and Mysteries” thread. This all stems from a UFO program I was watching the other day. It got me to thinking, as Joss, Tim Minear and the other writers of FF were penning the Firefly tv series I assume they often drew upon their interest and every day events to help with the story lines . Seems the Hands of Blue guys are similar to the Men in Black fellows, maybe a tad more sinister. What do we know about the MIB gentlemen. Well in reality not much, we know that they show up unannounced at some poor souls door who’s seen a ufo and in few words or less convince them that they didn’t see anything and to keep their mouth shut. What are they hiding (or guarding?)? They kinda remind me of the HoBs. 500 years from now there are still secrets the government doesn’t want found out. The MIBs are today’s HoBs. Don’t tell me that you don’t believe in conspiracies because you wouldn’t have bought the bit about River if you didn’t (see Simon and Rivers parents) What is the cost of knowing secrets like these? The movies portray the MIB guys as good guys working for the government but are they really?

I find it funny that the FF series eludes to so much government meddling and interference and secrecy yet in the episode “The Message” the barker outside the peep show says “ Forget what your mother told you when she tucked you in at night! Behind this very curtain is what our oppressive Allied government doesn’t want you to know….” . This kinda rings of Roswell to me and that the writer is saying “ keep an open mind about the government hiding some truths, but not others” I just find a lot of twists and turns in the FF fiction and it’s one of the things that has me liking it so much.

Any comments?

Z

You must believe the Magic Bullet Theory - your government would never lie to you.

Also of importance, keep in mind that for most of history, Religion was also the Government - only the Church would determine who would become educated, and taught by the Church. The Religious Conspiracies were alluded to in Raiders of the Lost Ark, or at least the Catholic ones. (the other Indy episodes also follow religious plotlines, until IV)
The origins of Atlantis, the facts behind the fables in the Bible, the knowledge behind the Pyramids, Stonehenge, all reigned in by Religious rulers. The Vatican archives have not been opened to the public.
If you paid attention to Stargate, more of the same.

JewelStaiteFan, howdy

MY personal opinions:

Dallas 1963- no magic bullet

Roswell 1947- not a weather balloon

Washington State 1980- Bigfoot sighting, possibly?

Janet & Michael the same?- Nope

Loc Ness, Scotland- I wouldn’t picnic at water edge.

UFOs- I’d love to see one, I’d get autographs!

MIB- Aren’t really Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith

...

... that aliens are actually upside down cows in a carny barkers exhibition - there's a mark born every minute and rubes just waiting to be taken. LOL!

actually, here in LimeyLand we had (for YEARS) a truly hi-larious fake of the MISSING LINK at the National History Museum - which was half a chimp and a goat sewed together. (eew!)
humans are a credulous bunch - they'll swallow anything...

... even a magic bullet theory;)

Piltdown Man? Heh.

The carny folk used to tout around the body of a mummified manatee and charge people to see the mermaid. So I think the cow in a jar is just symptomatic of mankind being itself.

Weird conspiracy fiction - Umberto Eco 'Focault's Pendulum'. The DaVinci Code for grown-ups, first and best. Find out what the Eiffel Tower is really for.

Any of Christopher Fowler's 'Bryant and May' series.

As for the truth being out there? I think it would be wasted on the world. Everyone would rather have a glittery big secret, then the rather sordid idea that lonely and mentally unstable people want to shoot other people, every government there has ever been will do anything to protect itself, (any politician in a postion of power being the last person that should be there,) and people on the whole will do anything for money.

Bread and circuses have always been the key. 'Cept now television has replaced religion as the opiate of the masses.

There is no 'magic bullet' theory. Just the Bullet that killed him, was the bullet that killed him, theory. Unfortunately some people are ignorant of the facts, or otherwise prefer fantasy to reality. No government tells the absolute truth about everything all the time, there's a need for national secrecy in some areas, but by the same token nearly every grand conspiracy theory is just retarded.

Stonehenge was built by the Neolithic peoples of Britain, and it's been shown that moving stones from wales and constructing Stonehenge was perfectly possible with the technologies at their disposal.

The Pyramids were constructed by Ancient Egyptians, no one is sure exactly how it was done, but there's a number of theories that have been tested that show it was perfectly possible for the ancient Egyptians to have done so without help from aliens or even Elvis.

The world is simply a much more mundane place than many people want to believe it too be.

More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes!
No one can see their reflection in running water. It is only in still water that we can see.
