According to a poster over at IMDB (meaning it's a rumor) after receiving the Pilot Episode of Dollhouse, F*X is requiring that about half of it [Pilot episode] be reshot...

IF this is true, I wonder if Joss isn't already rethinking his decision to go back to F*X.

After Joss "re-works" the Pilot, Fox Execs will say to him..." Even though you "fixed" the Pilot, we really don't know what this is going to look like on a weekly episode basis, so give us a regular episode to judge it by....the rest is history, hopefully not to be repeated.

Yes, "reshoot" being the operative word, not "rewritten."
Big difference.
Reshoots happen quite a bit, especially for pilots, due to the reasons mentioned in the post you linked.

yeah - there's always some kind of crazy going down...
but the number of comissioned episodes is probably the best marker
and the last i heard - that had been extended from 7 to 13...

he should film the show in reverse order, with the final episode aired first. that way at least this show won't get cancelled before it is resolved.

My guess is that FOX knows no other network will give Joss a 2nd look, and if he wants to put his work on air, it's pretty much them or no one.

It seems to me from the posted article that it's the norm to re-shoot. No cause for alarm!

Still though, if I were Joss I wouldn't buy that villa in Italy just quite yet, if you know what I mean.

Didn't I read somewhere that when Eliza and Joss met over lunch and cooked up the basis for the show, that she was stuck in a contract with Fox?

Based on this, my own personal theory has been that Joss went back for more hiney-kicking from his favorite network for Eliza's sake.

Any comments or evidence for this?

I don't have any evidence or links or anything, but I can tell you I've read just that more than once, if that's any help.

While I agree that reshoots are normal. I don't think is normal to reshoot more than half of an episode. Basically the Auther is saying the Network did not like the MAJORITY of the pilot episode. That's why the author bothered posting about it.

No...

...if you read it again, the author says that they normally don't reshoot such a huge portion unless they are going to make some major CASTING changes. That says nothing about script changes and nothing about whether or not the Execs liked the pilot itself.

Casting changes - just like Joss did when he decided to ditch Rebecca Gayheart in exchange for Morena Baccarin for the character of Inara.

Yes...

I don't NEED to read it again thank you. And it's not "just like" Rebecca Gayheart because she was the ONE casting replacement they made on Firefly and it didn't cause them to have to reshoot more than half the episode. Furthermore, it was Joss's decision to replace Gayheart, not the F*X execs.

In this case, Joss showed the pilot to F*X and they turned around and said half of it must be reshot for whatever reason. Which means what was right and good from Joss's perspective wasn't right and good for F*X. To me, that says they dont share the same "vision" for the project. Spin it how you want, but that can't be "good".

I'm not "panicking" and I'm not "alarmed" but I wouldn't be surprised if this is a sign of things to come.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Before you get bent all out of shape over this, please note you are basing your reaction on a post on a message board, and imdb.com at that. Hardly the most reliable source of information. You don't know the identity of the poster or what connection he has with the production. Not saying FOX is to be trusted, but I'd rather wait and hear something from Joss before grabbing the torches and pitchforks again.

Wow, okay, maybe I'm just tired, but you sound a bit upset. Didn't think you'd take my post quite so personally that you'd get tetchy. Let me see if I can tread more lightly...

Even though you don't NEED to read it again, here it is anyway, for other people to read:

"and it waqs deceided that 4 of seven pilot shooting days ( more than half) of the pilot be need to be re-shot . This usually means that they re-cast with that much of a re-do but who knows. The same Camera/ Grip / Electric departments shot the pilot so they liked the look of the show and the Director of Photography ( Ross Berryman lat of Ugly Betty ) or we would not have been asked to do the show run . Locations, used on the pilot may not be available for the series , etc ,etc...."

So, again, there was nothing in this guy's post - which is the one originally linked in the start of this thread - to suggest a re-write, like the sad fiasco that was the SERENITY pilot.

Yes, I agree that FOX is predictable in its bad decisions; yes, I agree that trying a new show with FOX is often a losing proposition; yes, I suspect - but hope I'm wrong - that FOX is going to shit-can this show before it gets its audience. But I will not read some stranger's post, twist all the words around, draw baseless assumptions from that post, and get any more "panicked" or "alarmed" than one ought to over such internet fuckwittery.
