Yep, this is the same nutjob I read and commented about in another thread. Yeah, she says that just about everything in FF is against women and that JW is an evil lecherous hump. Imagine FF as porno.

It boggles the mind that there are people out there who think this way.

What a load of gos se... I actually felt a little sick reading it. Her accusing Joss like that. Fwa zte da pi gu.

I'm perfectly fine with her movement, but I think a radicallist view on anything that takes it to the point of finding nothing in the world wholesome, (not to mention something as wondeful as Firefly), and for entertainment is not healthy. Moderation. I mean, Browncoats have a strong view on Firefly and the BDM, but it is one based on love, not on hate. I feel sorry for this woman.

Her blog isn't worth a comment. She's obviously looking to hate on Firefly. Her analysis is clearly biased. Not worth trying to reason with someone who's only looking for what they want to see.

Did you see the part where she said Wash and Zoe are portrayed as having a perfect, happy marriage. Uh...really?

There is a quote that my father used when I was being particularly blockheaded that went something like "When your only tool is a hammer, all your problems look like nails". She saw what she expected to see. Judging by what she has said in the past, she sees the same common threads in almost everything. There are problems with gender equality in our society but the particular genius of Joss Whedon is to pick these issues out and make you roll them over and over in your mind until you begin to think. This woman clearly doesn't want you to think, she wants you to preach the gospel. I find it very sad.

I missed this first time round but have read the start, skipped some and then read some of the comments.

One point that peaked my interest was that Joss may be considered a feminist by some, and BTVS may be considered a feminist show by some. But to my knowledge FF/S nor Angel were feminist. I though they were just shows that may featured strong female characters but the show itself wasn't necessarily feminist.
The creator doesn't have to influence the show in that way. It would be like saying that because Russell T Davies is a gay man that Doctor Who is a gay show.

Either way the lady is off her meds and she completely misunderstood the show. People like that she be used for medical experiments.

Read as much as I could stomach of that rubish review/commentary. Thought about a rebuttal, because there is just so much that is illogical and perposterous, but that would have required reading more of that psycho-babble (well written, but still crazy). Why waste the time - its been said "don't argue with a fool, people may not be able to tell the difference".

The sad thing is that this hateful writer reminds me of a Reaver. Not an original PAX (ph.) created Reaver, but a second generation Reaver created from the trauma of witnessing Reaver evils. I hope my theory is wrong, but it seems plausible that this person witnessed and/or experienced some terrible and evil things, leading to a psychotic break. That would best explain becoming so backwards and hateful. The world is far from perfect, but it is so much better than what that writer perceives.

Well, I gotta say, her talent for alienating folks is near miraculous. :) Other than that, pretty much everything she says is like the Capisan 38 engine: it falls right out of the sky!

Sad, though, that she mocks the in itself legitimate cause of feminism with her lunacy. "Moonbrained" we call that, this end of the 'Verse.

INEVERMARRIED

"That woman has issues" just doesn't quite cover it.

Have to admit that whilst reading it, I did find myself thinking, "This woman can actually write. There's obviously some intelligence here." Then I got to the bit about "never knowing of a healthy relationship between a white man and woman of colour" and couldn't help but chuckle to myself at how downright insane and narrow-minded that generalization was. Such a shame that her intelligence is being choked to death by the fanatical strength of her feminist leanings.

In all honesty, I was really surprised that she didn't kick off about Kaylee and what she was partaking in before she became mechanic on the ship in Out of Gas. Saw the preemptive vultures circling on that one but she seemed to leave it alone - although she may have kicked off in a later post, I don't know.

Personally, I've had enough for maddening, severely-flawed diatribes for one day.

People see what they want to see.

"What the fuck is this feminist man trying to say about women here? A black woman calling a white man 'sir'."

Yeah, it's a little outfit called the Army. Every child who's ever seen any movie with any type of soldiers in it, knows this. So, what the fuck is this hateful woman trying to say about herself here? That she's truly so dimwitted that she doesn't know that, in the Army, one addresses one's superior officer with 'Sir'? Or that when she subjected herself "to the horror that is Firefly," lol, that she completely missed out on Zoe and Mal having a military history?

"So, Joss Whedon refers to rapist/fuckers who buy women as sex, as 'eager, inexperienced but pleasingly shaped' who 'make love' to women in prostitution."

Was there ever a moment, I wonder, were she understood, or even faintly suspected, that Mal weren't exactly pleased with all this Companioning stuff? And that he, his own self, was pointing out "the lie of it"? And to complicate matters even far beyond the rim of her grasp, that even Inara, her own self, is struggling with being a Companion?

"It is clear from the outset that a large part of Inara's service involves addressing issues of male inadequacy and fulfilling many other emotional needs of her clients. The ability to do this IS a resource and it is therefore a service that Inara must perform. BUT Inara services all of the male passengers and the Captain in this way. She also services Kaylee but the relationship between them is a little more reciprocal. In any case, Mal makes it pretty obvious that he expects his emotional needs to be serviced by Inara and she willingly obliges."

So, first being a Companion is "Joss Whedon's euphemism for prostituted women" (actually, Mal just calls it whoring, too; if only that irony weren't lost on her), and then she goes off on a rant because, annoyingly so, the gnashing of her teeth despite, she has to admit that being a Companion is more than just about getting sexed? Well, that's your typical "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario, ain't it?

"Zoe is treated as a piece of meat by both her husband (Wash, another white male) and the Captain. (...) both relying on her submission to them to get them hard and manly.

I guess she took Zoe's "Take me, Sir; take me hard!" a mite too literal. :) What a baffoon.

And what's with all the alleged racism? * See, this is another sign of her tragic space dementia. She just sees what she wants to see, regardless. If there were no black folks in it, she's scream foul. If there were no black women in it, she'd scream foul, too. If there were black women in it, but only paired to other black men, she'd scream foul as well. And a Joss having the audicity to actually be so liberated as to portray an interracial couple, we certainly can't have that!

O, Joss' Rapist's View of the World must definitely come to an end! :)

*takes two deep breaths*

Yeah, I'm done.

Liara T'Soni: "I don't know what's worse, the Geth or all the sand in my... never mind."

-------
* Where she sees racism, I see Joss' wink to equality between the races (from an earlier post I made):

It's a well known fact, of course, that Joss modelled Jubal Early after Jubal Anderson Early, the famous Confederate general of the American Civil War. What I didn't know (until a recent visit to wikipedia) is that the general was an outspoken believer in white supremacy. Early wrote about African Americans as "barbarous natives of Africa" and wrote:

"The Creator of the Universe had stamped them, indelibly, with a different color and an inferior physical and mental organization. He had not done this from mere caprice or whim, but for wise purposes. (...) Reason, common sense, true humanity to the black, as well as the safety of the white race, required that the inferior race should be kept in a state of subordination."

I therefore find it not without a sense of irony that the Creator of *our* 'Verse made Jubal Early... a BLACK man! :)

jesus h is this mentalist actually watching the same show i watched it seems she had an agenda before she actually started watching the show and to put serenity/firefly in the same bracket as pornography is insane . i personally think that the show is non sexist that dosent mean the universe the show depicts is non sexist .that is the same for reality that even though most right minded people respect women for the good they do for society. some people only see women as sex objects or inferior intellectually or only put a womens worth to their astethetics.but these are some of the issues i belive the show addresses in a posetive way one example is kaylee being a better engineer than the first guy (i forget his name).or the way that zoe is the strong partner in the zoe wash relationship there are countless other examples of a non sexist ideology within the show .i think this woman just wants an argument knowing the size of our fanbase please dont rise to her childish acusations and hopefully she will find something else with subliminal sexism .

All I can say about this woman is that she tries very hard to find problems with the show.

I think my favorite was that she actually counted the number of times that people talked.

I also like how she thinks the "duct tape her mouth and dump her in the brig" is literal. I mean please.
