Y'all make like it's important or something- I think the word obsession applies here. There's a whole WORLD out there, yet y'all come here to talk and talk and talk about an old TV show/movie. I don't get it. I mean, sure I like it too, but really, I don't LIVE it!! I've only seen each ep like 12 times now, and the movie over 45, but that doesn't mean I'm obsessed like y'all...that's only, let me do the math here...90 hours for the movie...120 hours for the show...see, that's only 210 hours I've spent on this thing, and that's hardly....uh...like, uh, nine days..., so see...

Hmmmmm...

Maybe I need some gorram help

Sorry to hear of your lament (?) but Firefly's league hardly rates as mere entertainment. It's a view of what real freedom would be like (freedom being something no one on this rock really has or fully understands). It's a view unlike anything we'll ever be able to achieve that's for sure.

Entertainment?! Harumph! More like a waking dream to me. Well, other than for the food......

Permaybehaps Chris just has too much time on his hands.

As for me, I think that any time anyone uses the terms "only" or "just" or "merely" entertainment in reference to Firefly, they are the ones in need of help, not those they are addressing.

Chris - Honest answer - I don't keep track of how many times I've watched either the movie or the series, but since I have watched one or the other so many times in the time since they came out, it's got to be hundreds of times each. And I still enjoy them every time. And that doesn't count the thousands of times that I've played the music - series, movie, and fan based.

I don't think I'll do the math on how much time that adds up to.

Hmmm - Just thinking about it, I think I'll plug Firefly in right now.

I would say that is about average, but well below the amount of time I have spent either watching Firefly or Serenity, reading the comics, novelization and companion books, listening to the soundtracks, etc. Add to that the times I have been to a shindig, convention or CSTS screening, I am sure I am close to 500 hours by now.

But there is rarely an hour that has gone by since September 20, 2002 that I have not thought of Firefly in one way or another. I'm obsessed, but I am also very comfortable with that.

If anyone takes issue with that then it's their problem, not mine.

Well, comics, soundtrack, pouring over the Visual Companion, heck, I spent two hours just building a Serenity out of Legos...

Here's the real question: at the end of Serenity, when Mal is talking to River about love keepin' her in the sky- do you get all teary?
I do, every time.

Is STAR WARS, STAR TREK, 24 & HOUSE just entertainment? Sure they are, but still important to alot of people who love the charters and the storys, I care about the people on board Serenity even tho I know it's a TV show/film. I know BONES is TV show, but watch it hoping Booth & Bones hook up, even tho I know David B. is married in real life, but yet I hope.

Well I just can't count that high. 500 sounds right but I am afraid I still spent way more than that. Firefly I've watched at least 20 times. Serenity about 30 times. I am a shindigaholic and have met many many Browncoats.

Can anyone do the math?

I saw the title of this thread, rolled my eyes and figured that chisisall must be at it again....

Personally I'm kicking myself for deciding to save money by not planning to attend Comic Con because we now know that Joss will be doing a panel on Friday (Dark Horse and Doctor Horrible, with Nathan and ALL the cast on stage with him) and on Saturday the Dollhouse panel w/Eliza Dusku!

*sigh*

But I am happy that I'm planning on going to the Creation convention where I'll get to meet Jewell & Ron (and get to see Adam Baldwin again)

Well, after a while the obsession goes away and becomes an occasional thing. Myself I haven't watched it (show or movie) in 4 years? But still love the characters. We move on, but I keep coming back here to read threads like these, and updates (if any)

You watched the movie 45 times? I've only watched it 3, then again I'm not a fan of it.

Hey Chris,

Are you Alliance?

You had me going there for a minute. Good one.

But I would think that you're in the normal category with the number of viewings you mentioned. How many times have I seen Singing in The Rain or Some Like It Hot, Predator, The Matrix and now FF and Serenity.

It's not just entertainment for me. These movies are just plain fun, with a great story to tell. So Firefly and Serenity are just that - great and wonderfully told stories. It reminds me of when I was a kid telling ghost stories with all the lights off and getting the bajeezes scared outta ya'.

Good times!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No, not just Wash OR Book (everybody always forgets about him) it's inconsistancies (sp?) with the characters, time line issues, focusing too much on new characters (Mr Universe and those twins, time that could have gone more towards Inara, Book, Wash). It just..... things felt off, unbalanced and wrong. Now don't get me wrong, it is a good movie and maybe one day I'll pop it into the tray, but as it stands it's not something I can watch over and over like some films. To me the movie is a shadow of the greatness that is Firefly. But that's my opinion and I wouldn't force it on anyone or argue with those that love it.
Now if this was done over time, spaced out over a year in small doses, like maybe a second season, but we never got that and Joss just fit too much into a two hour span. And the characters especially paid for it. JMHO.
Whoa... That is exactly my take on it too!
Mal was too... and Inara
wasn't enough... and well.. you get my drift.
Still an excellent movie on it's own. And I currently own all three versions of it. That speak volumes on how much I dispised it
Well, actually, my all-time favorite is Steve McQueen's Le Mans. Must've watched that at least 237 times! (Wore out my table-top DVD player!)
First really super-realistic movie I saw as a kid — I've always been obsessed with the cinematography.
Somebody put together a great trailer for it...
What happened? He see your face?
Well.... I just finished my life-sized Serenity model in my front yard made solely from old tires, play-doh, and milk safety seal strippers (my cat loves these).
You sir have seriously dampened my FF enthusiasm.
Star Trek not real??? Blasphemy! Who is spreading these lies?
Rallem - I like your reality. Can I join you there?
Love that flick- saw it in the theatre first-run.
Side note; it was directed by Lee H. Katzen, who also directed the pilot for Man From Atlantis.
