Hi,All:

Firstly, if you don't want to go into a discussion long done, just direct me to the thread link.

That said, I've just bought the domain name "humboldtbrowncoats.com" for us'ns here on the North Coast of California. I'm going to start our website very shortly, but I have a couple of questions.

What is the font used for so much of the printed Browncoat paraphenalia?

What general advice do you have for me, specifically what to avoid for those who have done this already?

Thanks and keep flyin',

Craig in Arcata, CA

Ni Hao , and 'ohio' , Craig !

You're probably looking for 'Papyrus'...It's pretty enough for Browncoats...And , we are so very pretty !

I love Humboldt Co. , and envy you a bit...

Stay serene , Love is what keeps 'er in the Air...

Here's a link to a search that reveals past 'font' threads at FFF.net :

http://preview.tinyurl.com/5kaxqr

Don't pay for a font , if you don't have to...

Do a google search for 'free fonts' , until you find what you need , for free...

I got Papyrus , for free , myself , so I know that it's out there...

STOWEAWAY

Craig -

I can't offer much advice about the website. But I helped start the local Browncoat chapter in '06 when there hadn't been one before.
Our group formed out of the first Can't Stop the Serenity screening. So I had a little easier time gathering Browncoats in one spot.
Once your website is done, I would recommend having some flyers or cards made up with the address. Leave some at your local comic/hobby shops and any local universities. You can also leave some at local conventions where sci-fi folk congregate. I've found that some people in our group are part of another fandom too.
You should start having shindigs on a monthly basis. And advertise those too. You may be the only one coming for a little while. But once you get the ball rolling, you'll build up speed, so to speak.
I truly believe that all it takes is one person to lead the way and Browncoats can be found anywhere. Don't give up. And let us know how it works out.

Hello, Out2theBlack: (May I call you Out?)

Ni hao and konban wa to you as well!
How did you know I'm half Chinese and half Japanese? Been spending much time in Alliance academies?

Thanks for the font info. I'll put it to good use.

How do you know Humboldt County? Been here often?

Still figurin' it out.

Craig

Hi, Stoweaway!

Well, this is good news. Seems like I'm on the right path. We've had two shindigs and someone suggested we meet monthly. I designed flyers and postcards which were met with much complimentary attention. I work at our university and that's where we did our Shindigs.

Thanks so much!

No , I tend to avoid the Alliance institutions...But Independent Intelligence has a long reach...

Most folk just shorten my tag to 'O2'...It's simpler , and safer , than callin' me 'out'...

I used to live in NorCal's Solano County , and frequently trekked all over the best half of California...I've been to Humboldt and all of the surrounding counties a number of times , although not so much recently...

It's my kind of pretty , up that way...

Keep us informed about how the gang comes together up there !

You can get your Browncoat group listed on

http://www.bigdamnboard.com/websites/groups/

Also some groups have a yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=browncoats for emailing members info

For example the http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/pdxbrowncoats/
yahoo group home page says this.

Well, if you build it, they will come. When it comes to getting a local group together, find somewhere yall can meet, preferably somewhere public (its lerss scary for the first time), and somewhere that wont mind if you park your butts and chatter for hours.

Houston Browncoats started up back in the day meeting in a foodcourt of a local mall. This was back in 2004. When you first start meetingup, be sure to wear something obviously browncoat in nature, it makes you easier to find.

Food seems to be a really important thing amongst the browncoats, at least all the groups i have had the pleasure of shindigging with.

Also, Take a deep breath, have fun, and talk to your localish browncoats I strongly suggest chatting up the good folks here http://www.californiabrowncoats.org/

Also, if you need any input, or someone to bounce ideas off of, Valgrl and I muddled through without knowing anything about what we were doing and it worked, pleased to say my crew has been shindigging now for at least 4 years :) I actually think it may be 5 years at this point!
