Just heard CBS has officially cancelled Moonlight! Does anyone care but me? At first I thought they were ripping off Angel but it's quite a bit different and I really liked that show. I only watch a few shows.

Sometimes you just need to stop, breathe deep, and scream.

My friend feels your pain. She was a big moonlight fan. Sorry to hear. I liked the Dresden files and Sci Fi knocked those out. Sucks to be us, I guess.

Sad but not unexpected. They never quite figured out what kind of show they were making and it suffered because of that. In the end I mostly appreciated the fact that vampires were the least implausible plot element in the show. Well that and Sophia Myles.

Nope, you're not alone. I'm pretty bummed.

It was a good show all in all and I'll miss it.
New Amsterdam was canceled too.

! I liked it, too. Why all the shows I like get canceled? Dresden, firefly, moonlight... Is southpark next?

How will I get my Jason Dohring fix now? I am still coping with veronica mars withdrawal. Why do all the good ones die young?

Not a real big fan of the show, but definitely sorry for Jason Dohring. He was the brightest spot of Moonlight, IMO. And extremely bummed about New Amsterdam. They really could have done a lot with that series.

I had never seen the show, but I'm surprised by it's cancellation, since the ratings were decent. Apparently, it came down to a money dispute. CBS was fronting most of the budget, even though WB owned the rights. CBS asked WB to pay for more of the production budget, since they'd be the ones to reap the benefits of futre DVD sales and such, but WB said they'd only do so if CBS paid a higher licensing fee for the show, and CBS refused.

The show was offered to the CW network, but they passed. Which strikes me as a particularly bone-headed move, since Moonlight already gets twice the viewers that CW's highest rated show gets.

Total bummer. Show was just starting to hit its stride. I was concerned about this though because they were getting the two main characters together. This never goes well for a show.

New Amsterdam had an awesome premise but poor follow through. If they had made it more of an action/ drama instead of him looking for the right girl, maybe it would have done better. The whole "i need to find the girl that will make me mortal" thing got old pretty fast.

But I can't imagine why the production of Moonlight can be that expensive. it's not Firefly. Not so much special effects.

I think it had less to do with how expensive, and more to do with who paid for the expenses there were.

New Amsterdam too ?

Major bummage , if that's true...You got any info that confirms this ? ; 'Cause I've been looking a bit , and haven't run across this news , yet...

Sorry , Siri , 'bout moonlight , I never did catch it...Am told it was good , though...

About New Amsterdam ...it was on the ever-notorious F-network...Should've figured , yet another promising young neo-classic killed off prematurely...

EDIT:...Did some more looking , and found this :

...But canceling New Amsterdam is an absolute crime. New Amsterdam had great potential to use its leisurely pace to develop its more complex characters, particularly John (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Omar (Stephen Henderson). Coster-Waldau is a striking series lead, able to convey geniality and the the discomfort and frustration that comes from pursuing a 400-year quest. New Amsterdam took the most welcome risk of establishing John as a deeply flawed character, having succumbed in the past to the temptations of immortality; even his present-day persona is still recovering from his sins and is driven partly by a need to compensate for them.

The show's main potential weakness was insisting on pairing every present-day case with a crisis in John's past life; that could eventually get old and formulaic (we should only see key crises in John's past life that inform the present); but no doubt the writers would have realized this as the show evolved.

New Amsterdam is a show that, like its central character, deserves to survive and find both love and redemption.

Personally, I thought the subdued action and drama was one of its strongpoints. I enjoyed the 'realism' and am glad it didn't get all CSI-meets-Highlander.

Thank you Ray. I belong to one of those Moonlight boards and have been receiving missives about some of this stuff, but you've put it together nicely.
I'll spread the word.

Moonlight, unsurprisingly, is in the lead.

Something else to share!
