I go with little to none for the first month. Then slowly ease people in to it.

I'm all super professional at work most of the time.

Speaking of which I'd probably die if I was the guy who made a mistake on a conference call yesterday. My female co-worker/friend was telling me about this guy who tried to say "if I was in your shoes I'd..." but slipped and said "if I was in your pants". My face would instantly turn beat red and I'd apologize about a million times.

On a side note did you see How I Met Your Mother, MsB? The last two episodes have been really good IMO. I loved this one with the bracket of the 64 women Barney has scorned the most. "Evil twin! Evil twin!" lol

Haha exactly. That part was awesome. Those writers are really good with jokes like that. I don't really get why the show struggles in ratings. It's one of the best sitcoms around right now.

From what I read the network already renewed a bunch of shows but How I Met Your Mother was not on the list. They haven't said it's canceled, but they haven't said it's not canceled either. I think some of the hinting they're doing about the mother right now is to allow themselves a quick resolution to the series if they get canceled. :-(

Finally, something I can answer!

I think you should keep it in at first and feel the people out. If they are quirky it will show. Let your quirkiness out slowly, but I think that your co-workers should be fully exposed by three to six months (depending on how quirky thay are).

Of course some quirks you just keep to yourself for the most part.

Afternoon folks. Had to run home for a nap. Totally pooped from some sort of thingy going around. Could even be the sudden change of season, change in diet, or stress. Either way it sucks. Too much to do and too little energy.

Oh well. Maybe I can watch Sweeny Todd with MSB tonight while working on stuff for the show.

Dang. Seems everyone will be there on staggard weekends. We'll be there this weekend until Monday. Gonna give my brother his birthday gift early and hopefully take him to a field to use it before we leave. I repainted and function tested my old marker so hopefully he can get into shooting a bit before he gets time off and heads up here for a bit. He's really into OPFOR assignments and occasionally they get to hammer away at eachother with paintball markers. Luckily they don't use SIMUNITIONS as often. SIMUNITION is actual brass loaded with a paint projectile. Not fun when you take a hit. I figure on helping him find he edge when in a fire situation during an OPFOR assignment. Might even loan out the A5 on occasion as it is pretty much the equivilant of a SAW and he'd rock off some socks with it.

OK so what would you guys do if you just start getting tons of mail for some dude? A few times I've written "return to sender - does not live at this address" and a big arrow to the guy's info. The stuff just keeps coming though. I've lived at this address for over a year now. So, I doubt it was the previous resident. I figure it's someone who lives in the same apartment complex who messed up his address on stuff. It would be fairly easy to do since my apartment complex spans two sides of the street and has the same apartment numbers on both sides just a different street address.

Should I venture across the street and find my apartment number over there and ask if that's the dude? Should I just keep doing return to sender? Should I not care and throw everything out until he realizes his mistake?

If it's not him, I'd call the post office and ask them what you need to do to stop it from happening.

That's a good idea.

Maybe not as satisfying as holding a burn party, when you put up adds or something about the mail, and then when they come over, you burn it in front of their eyes , but it's probably a lot more ethical.

The thing about procrastination is managing it properly. If you're going to procrastinate then you have to be a very good judge of how much time something will actually take.

As long as you still get things done on time then I'm fine with procrastinating. Heck I just got my taxes done last week. It's still on time so no problems. In high school there was a standard practice of doing my homework for the next class during the class the period before that one. Of course that only works if you know the portions of work given for homework only take about a half hour to half ass.

In conclusion, procrastination is a lot of hard work and should only be attempted if you're willing to put in the effort.

Hi!

I am pretty awesome. Thanks for noticing. I wish I could help you in your goal to be more Zeeklike, but it's unteachable. Sorry, either you're this great or you aren't.

Friday is moving along slowly. I could tell it was going to be one of those days though. Woke up to the gloomy rainy weather. Actually I woke up totally startled by my alarm and in my half awake state I knocked the glass of water I keep by the bed across the room. That woke me and the cat up pretty quickly though. Can't wait until it's quittin time though.

Bleh, I know what you mean. My day so far has consisted of people not taking meetings seriously enough and then getting pissed off at me when they're not prepared to handle the complicated math we have to hash out before the end of the day. Getting the math figured out and turned over to the programmers was my assignment for the week, and them being unprepared and procrastinating is making me look bad. That and stupid executive assistants thinking that everyone can read fucking .docx files. Seriously people, you can't just assume that contractors will all have Office 2007. It's impolite, to say the least.

Ah well, at least it's Friday -- oh, and I just won some really cute jeans on ebay, so I'm a happy girl, the above notwithstanding.

I guess that's what craziness at work does to a person.

Though I can't really get on my high horse about ignoring meetings. There are just so many and most of the time they just make everyone either bored or angry at the ignorance of someone who gets to make decisions.

Uh...they shouldn't hit you at all. Hitting them back is not the solution either. You need to have a talk with them about how it makes you feel. Especially the part where it's teaching you to be violent. Clearly it has not inspired you to never get a C again. So, that strategy has failed. Also explain to them that child abuse is never acceptable and that there are many out reach programs they can go to for counciling. MsB can probably rattle off a long list.

My parents never hit me when I was growing up. Possibly effected by the fact that my parents were divorced. I could easily see my Dad being a violent guy at times. I also still did just fine in school without threats. Threats don't work. You have to want to do well. What they should be focused on is explaining to you the reason they want you to focus on your school work. IMO it's absolutely essential these days. The jobs are drying up out there. If you don't get into a decent college and separate yourself from the pack then you're going to have a much harder time in the future.

I always wanted to be successful and that was motivation enough for me. This really took off when I found a course I was really interested in. Have you found a course that really peaks your interest yet? If not keep looking.

Hope you get all this worked out. Cause I simply do not approve of parents hitting their kids. Not cool.

OK I'm out for the day folks. Good luck LeopardFlan.

Ummm.... I'm sorry, but "talk to them" and "my parents" do not go together in the same sentence. And normally I'm not violent- I'm not strong enough to be violent. Weakling with pencil arms pretty much describes me in that area.

See, the thing is I tend to be a little apathetic about my homework sometimes, and grounding me doesn't work to make me do my homework, because I'm kinda weird in that I passively don't let anyone make me do anything- I'll take what they dish out (work detail, hittings, stuff like that), but I don't let their actions decide what I do, so I end up not doing my homework more, and the grades begin a slow decline down the tube (because I still do work in class) until the new nine weeks, when they unground me and it starts over again. I'm pretty sure the spell of apathy would go away after a few days, but....

Yeah, I know all the reasons to do well, but sometimes my apathy just can't be helped for a spell. It goes away after a few days, but punishing me doesn't make it any better. Actually, i think it might be due to sleep problems, but whenever I get grounded, they don't let me go to bed early because they don't want me to "get out of doing work", unless I specifically get an earlier bed time, but when I'm ungrounded and actually doing homework I need more time in the evenings!

Feel free to ignore me, just need to rant a little sometimes.

I can tell from experience that sleep deprivation wrecks havoc with your drive & focus. If you feel like a little extra sleep would help you at school, maybe you could try working out some kind of compromise with your parents

Leopard, Your parents hit you when your grades slip? Seriously?

That is fucking wrong on so many levels. The advice about getting counselling sounds right to me. Is there anybody you can tell about this, or go and stay with? Because as a motivational tool, that is just so much bullshit. Your spells of apathy and passive response sound more like the beginnings of a severe depressive state as a reaction to abuse.

Good grades leading to good college leading to good job...well, life ain't necessarily so, but it does give you more options. But if you can't do maths or economics, then you can't, full stop. (I had a friend whose parents made her study chemistry - they wanted a pharmacist, when her grades weren't good enough for medicine. She failed her degree. But she is now the head of division in a company, because her skills are in computing and business - if her parents had let her study that, she'd have got at least an upper second.) Beating you round the head won't make you good at something. And that needs to stop as a response.

So this is what I realized this weekend. I've been (emotionally) holding my breath for nearly a year. I feel like I just exhaled. This is amazing.

Timezones are a weird and wonderful thing, Zeek...I'm coming to the end of my Monday here (well, I'm about to turn my box off and go and watch 'Chuck'...did hear a rumour there might be an AB sighting to be had...)

*blinks* there was a restraining order? On little me?*

What were you holding your breath for? Were you waiting for something to happen or fearing that something might happen?

What's an AB sighting? Adam Baldwin? AfterBurn? Altered Beast? Albino Bear? African Belephant? (ok that last one's a stretch)

I thought Adam Baldwin was a regular on Chuck. I've only seen like the first 5 episodes though.

So now you're being bad? hehe

Even though you wrote "awsome" I'm thinking you meant "awesome". If so welcome to the awesome club.

Hugs and es Zeek! (is my relationship with myself filling the void of no MsB & NVG?)
