Currently I'm doing a research paper on TV scheduling and using a mathematical model to optimize the number of viewers for a network. While doing my research I was reading a previous article on the same topic and found this quote about shows and the number of seasons they have aired:

"shows rarely start out as hits, having first to develop an audience"

I don't think anyone at FOX has ever read this article. Maybe they should.

Might not be the brighest quote on the subject , but whoever wrote that one is my kind of stupid...

Seems a 'no-brainer' to me...

If Fox read the ratings now, they would see that Firefly and Serenity have truly developed a fan base, and they would try to pick it back up in a flash.

Per-maybe-haps you give 'em too much credit...But I really hope you're right...Even the insane have their momentary flashes of lucidity...

I have three references claiming that most (all?) Friday night shows on FOX get cancelled.
http://www.thefutoncritic.com/rant.aspx?id=20070905
http://tviv.org/Friday_night_death_slot
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_night_death_slot
If these references are true, then Firefly didn't have a chance of being renewed. It was doomed before an audience saw it for the very first time. That leaves us with a murder mystery: Why did FOX hate Firefly before it was born? Why did FOX decide to slay it by premiering it on Friday nights? We may never know the answers. We can only speculate until the Alliance War Crimes Tribunal sees the relevant FOX internal memos and emails.

If there is no chance of FOX picking it back up, then maybe either NBC or ABC will see the ratings and at least think about pickng it back up(we might have to help them with this).

I thought I read somewhere that the reason Fox never gave Firefly a fair shot at a season two was that the show had anti-corporate sentiments and Fox is a corporation. Most importantly a corporation with neither a sense of humor or its eye on the money.

Thats could be one of the reasons Firefly did get cancelled. FOX is pretty corrupt already, it wouldn't be such a huge stretch for them to cancel anything that didn't fit their propaganda.
