I was walking through my local blockbuster and saw the movie "Waitress", Starring Keri Russell, on the shelf. I knew Fillion was a lead character in the movie. I looked on the front and there was Fillion and Russell on the front. The only name on the cover was "Keri Russell". My sister, a big chic flic fan, told me that Fillion was the main love interest in the film. It just seems that after all Fillion's time in the states, he would at least had his name on the poster and movie cover, especially when there are only TWO people on the cover and poster. No one even cares about Keri Russell, who was in a terribly pathetic TV show though popular, Felicity. Sorry Nathan, we still love you.

When the movie was in theaters, Nathan's face was never used to promote it. It was only a picture of Keri Russell with her name on the poster. They even had giant stand-ups of her in the theaters.
But when the DVDs came out, they added Nathan into the picture. Seriously, he's Photoshopped in to the exact same promo picture they had always used.
So I think he was more of an afterthought. I like to think that his appeal with the target audience is the reason they included him. Or it might just be a way to let people know that it's a story about love & relationships.
'Cause a movie called Waitress with a picture of just a waitress doesn't tell the casual shopper much.
Too bad they didn't give him credit on the cover.

STRANGEBIRD

I just picked the movie up myself today. It does have his name near the bottom alongside the director, writer, other actors, but seriously not to many folks read all the finer print. Yet it still doesn't have his name on the cover or even in the summery after his character is mentioned... I mean seriously. He is on the cover. Weird.

Still gotta watch it though. Probably will tomorrow.

I'm with you, MSB. I really liked it and it struck a nerve with me too.
No abusive husband here, but I caught a glimpse of myself when I saw it in the theater.
I don't consider it a chick flick ('cause my husband loved it too and he hates chick flicks) but it does deal with women's issues. I would dare say that most women would see a bit of themselves somewhere in the film.
Definitely worth watching.

Yes Nathan was the "main love interest" in the film, but he received maybe the 4th most screen-time in the film.

The movie is not about Keri and Nathan falling in love. He actually doesn't appear in THAT many scenes..her fellow waitresses deserved their name on the promotional posters more than Nathan did.

EDIT: yes, it's a great, funny indie film. Adrienne Shelly wrote, directed, and played Dawn. Adrienne was murdered before the film could be shown at Sundance.

Stoweaway..I just got out of a marriage with a man exactly like Keri Russell's husband ( minus the hitting) The point where he gives her the speech was honestly word for word a speech my ex gave about why he didn't want kids... it was spooky ( and not in a good way) made me want to check my house for bugs

TWILIGHTSEEKER

I really liked the movie. Nathan is his usual wonderful cross between awkward and charming he plays so well. I can tell you netflix promotes it as a Fillion film...I am sure to catch those of us looking for anything our BDH appear in. I am currenting trying to go back and find movies that any of them played even bit parts in.

Eeek! I'm glad you're out and hopefully living a better life now.
Mine isn't great but not that bad. Still muddling through -- so, unfortunately, can't be as candid about the parallels to my life.
Luckily it wasn't the abusive husband part.
Still there were hundreds of other small moments when you knew what Jenna was feeling 'cause, you know, "been there, done that".
I've never been a big Keri Russell fan but she made me a believer with this film. I saw it three times in the theater.

ZEEK

The movie was really odd IMO. I didn't see how that situation could every possibly happen. All the characters were really weird, including Nathan's. The love story of it didn't really fit for me. The whole time I was wondering why Nathan was cheating. The ending was about the only part that made any sense to me. It felt like they started there and worked their way backward when writing the thing.

All in all I didn't hate the movie, but I didn't love it.

That was all a tangent from the actual point of the thread. I think Nathan deserves some recognition on the cover. He is pretty much the second big name in there. Besides the old dude.

Nathan's character definitely gets some love in Waitress.

If you check out White Noise II, be sure to watch the extra where Nathan tours the haunted mental asylum. Pure Nathan.
