Is it in reference to the Atmosphere album? Good CD for those of you who are interested in Rap that isn't womanizing and materialistic.

Neko, I may not be remembering correctly but I think you're the one with the long distance relationship. Don't go blaming yourself if the long distance thing went to hell in a handbasket. Those things are just doomed from the get go IMO.

Nope just being honest. I've seen way too many long distance relationships fail. I mean unless there's a pretty quick end in sight (6 months or less I'd say) I just don't see them working. I'm sure there are exceptions, but in general that seems to be the rule.

The silver lining is that it's nothing Neko did or didn't do. It's just the circumstances.

Yup NBC, It is a referance to the Atmosphere album (Hands NBC a cookie) No, it's not the condecending cookie of "good job moron", it's the enlightened cookie for folks who know good music.

Just had a wierd dream that made me feel kinda ugly this morning. But I happened to catch Atmosphere in the random choosings of my media player this morning and felt a little better.

How is it we can feel guilty for the crappy things we do in our dreams? Stuff we would never do IRL not even if the circumstances were different. Just wondering.

I think part of that might come from not wanting people to know you are even dreaming about that kind of thing. Maybe it's a bit of learned tact (for lack of a better word) that gets ingrained in us before we start really thinking for ourselves. *shrug* Or I could be full of sh*t and talking out of my *ss.

You're telling me I don't want to watch a superbowl of the Bears vs. the Eagles (impossible NFC vs NFC matchup) where a no name Bears wide receiver scores an incredible go ahead touchdown and then ends up looking like my brother's doppleganger when they're interviewing him later? Is that what you're trying to say?

I don't know. I get anxiety dreams when things bother me.

My personal favourite was just before my first year University exams. I had a dream I was in my old secondary school hall (where we did all our exams) and the desk I was sitting at went on fire! I had no fear of being burned, I was just frustrated I couldn't get my paper done!

Speaking of things bothering me, Immigration called into our school to do a "spot check" that was in noooo way a spot check. They full on interrogated a workmate, and asked a lot of questions that bothered me. The director passed it off as just a routine check, but I'm not happy. I've been through every kind of inspection and audit under the sun. This was like no inspection I've ever seen.

Ha! Yes they are, and I know why!

Because every day someone with poor attendance comes to me and wants me to "do something about it." and will sit there waiting for me to come up with some sort of magic solution for them.

And every day, my reaction is the same: "What frikin' planet are you on???"

See. It might be unofficial proof but what is your usual answer?

Really though, why do people try playing off the emotions or sensibilities of others? I might seem accomodating to the needs of our pregnant staff, but what keeps me from putting the boots to them? Nothing! It just pisses me off that they seem to expect me to be a little sensitive when the F up. What the hell for? It'll be a matter of time before I have to take disciplinar action and will have to research and consult on what working to use so's not to chance a discrimination suit. Oh fricken boy.

If they come to me with attendance issues? Honestly? 99% of the time my reaction starts with "tough" and ends with "-it." I'm sick to the eye teeth of students taking the p*ss when it comes to going to class. They just don't take it seriously. They'll use absolutely any excuse not to bother going - and then they get mad at us for not giving them credit for being sick or at work or whatever. WTF???

...which is why I was surprised at the tone of the investigation. I know there are a core of poor students, but the college itself always seemed straight up - dreadfully naive in their first yea, sure, but still honest and compliant with immigration law. But after this? Not so sure.

The biggest issue I had is that they wanted information on several students I didn't think *were* students. I thought they were full time employees. Now I'm there about three months, and these guys are in a different building, so I don't know for certain if they were working more than twenty hours. BUT... I got the impression they were.

I haven't confronted the director yet (and I heard that immigration told him to fire the people involved) but... I gave out yards to students who worked more than the 20 hours allowed under the terms of their visa. Full blown lectures. If I found out the college was breaking the very same law? Not only would I leave, I'd shop them to immigration myself. How do they expect any student to obey the rules if they don't? I'd rather be unemployed than a hypocrite.

That's worse case scenario though. I'll see if there's any truth to the rumours I've heard first.

At least you are making a conscious effort to show your own sensibilities. Imagine how many other people in the faculty are cowering at the thought of such consequence. Screw 'em. It's good to know that someone is willing to state the case rather than hide from it.

True. But then I was hired to pretty much sort all this crap out. Recently that's mostly involved going to the director and saying "the students are not the biggest problem. Here is what ~you~ need to change!"

Already I'm torn between sticking it out and helping them change for the better or just giving up on the place. Knowing they broke the law would definitely push me out the door. It would be proof positive my job there is just impossible.

I know Browncoat Island might be a better choice but there is a place called Indepenence Valley between here and Salt Lake. Sure it isn't tropical but it is sixty miles from the nearest Wal Mart and is damn pretty. Might make due 'til the finalities are made for the island move.

Hey, DTH, I got a college story for you.

Imagine a college that takes on a number of foreign students from various countries. The ones that can pay a whole wedge of cash up front get a certificate that claims to be a proper qualification (but has no real standing, being run off a printer in an upstairs office.) The ones that can't pay are given 'part-time' jobs as cleaning staff - six and a half day weeks, that prevent them from ever attending any lectures that might benefit them.

Now imagine being the administrator told to make up a course title and register these folks so that the college can claim some money for them.

Yeah, I like breakfast more late at night or the morning after a good drinking session. A good potato scramble with egg, meat, and cheese. Maybe pancakes and sausage links. Yay, apparently I am the only student in this chat, but I know where you guys are coming from. I am as they would say "gifted" so I tend to be far ahead of my classes and tend to know slightly more than some of my teachers and far more than most of the students, so I get along well with my teachers and help a lot of the other students. Teachers confide in me the struggles of students and sometimes I really just don't think they are hard enough. If someone misses most of their assignments for no valid reason why should the teacher have to make up that slack. I mean if I can work full time at night while maintaining above a 3.0 in a double major they should be able to handle 4 classes a semester while living at home. Okay done complaining about other dumb students!

You guys have way more interesting dreams than I do. I just solve problems and dream about my wife...isn't that sad I can't even dream about another woman, my wife is actually my dream girl..har har har aren't I punny?

Breakfast? Did someone say breakfast?

've found that I can't function without breaking fast...otherwise I'm tired, dragging, and easily cranky.

I don't mind too much about the lack of variety of my breakfasts when I make 'em, since it's something I like eating and it's easy to make when I'm still a walking zombie...

(Sorry for being a bit slow on responding...)

Zeek: It wasn't a real LDR...but more of a friendship that could become more if one of moved to where the other was (in a year or five)...and with everything going on, I was considering reducing the timeline to sometime this year...

MsB: :P' I gotta introduce you to some of my ex's...then you'd see why I'm so critical... :P' (Edited: Apparently I'm right again...my taste in men SUCKS... 'scuse me while I go and bury myself.)

Ugh...accrediation meeting today and "lucky me," I got to be one of those being asked about the school... Wish I had been mean, bitter, and nasty enough to list some my big issues with where I work, but since I don't want to burn the bridge I'm standing on, I think my answers were "nice" enough.

Well it's about time I did :p My wife would kill me if I didn't do well. My mother in law is a teacher in Texas, my uncle is a teacher, my best friends wife is a teacher, some of my teachers are friends. I didn't say I took studies seriously though, I like school, but I just got lucky and wound up with an ability to learn extraordinarily fast because I break everything into patterns and logical systems, that and I have some bipolar moments, sometimes it takes a lot for me just to get to school because I get so sad and it is painful to be around people and other times I can't sleep for days. Blessing and a curse,it isn't so bad if I can keep myself busy, but like I said I'm "gifted" so I can bored easily and have to take on extra projects or tutor other students to keep myself sane. I'd love to teach but I get so sick of administration and politicians telling teachers what to teach....it really perturbs me to say the least.

Neko, you sound an awful lot like my ex and I know what she goes through so I feel for you( Just remembered shes a teacher too...damn how many teachers do I know?)Hey if it makes you feel any better you could bludgeon me. My wife already toughened me up so I can take it ;)Oh yeah and the problem with men is that we tend to think like men and women think like women... it's kinda like how sometimes you gotta rip off that ground prong to make it fit in the two prong, so I guess what I am saying is ermmm...rip his prong off;)
