DEWRASTLER

I know this thread has been started before, but I'm lazy and have a request to go with it.

Watching the trailer for Fanboys (which will hopefully be out soon, March I think) I thought of an idea for a story.

With so many canceled shows and people fighting to keep them alive, what would the story be like of a group of people trying to resurrect a tv show be like? It would have to have plenty of references to canceled tv shows.

So, what are some of your favorite canceled shows and what kind of references do you think would be funny in such a story?

Thanks.

I would like to see something with Joss giving people advice on how to deal with the studios and them asking him "You really have to tell us how you know things like this" and Joss says "No, I really don't."

'Space: Above and Beyond', along with Firefly, was one of the more disappointing examples of a character-driven sci-fi show being scrubbed almost out of hand by F*X.

Then there was 'Due South' - not sci-fi and not a victim of F*X, but a victim of close-minded network execs nonetheless. Poor show got cancelled three times, although before its last cancellation its lead actor had ruined it almost beyond recognition.

"We don't have time for the whole list." --Caleb

Just off the top of my head:
Cupid
Veritas: The Quest
John Doe
Dark Angel
That other show, the space-western one that nobody seems to have heard of.

And it's an animated show, but I'd include W.I.T.C.H., especially given the awesomeness of S2, and what a perfect setup they gave for the S3-that-will-likely-never-happen.

DECLAN

If I could ask my fellow Browncoat a quick question about cancelled SF shows...

I moved out to a small country in the Pacific in September 2007. Before leaving the US, I saw ads for what I believe was to a Fall season network show. It had a mythic main character, a guy who was 400 years old (and maybe unkillable) who lived in New York and had some situation. You know, the typical problems that 400 year old guys have...

Does anyone know the name of the show? Was/Is it any good? (I'm always a sucker for a good mythic character ;)

Thanks,

Declan

That show is New Amsterdam, and its premiere was delayed. I think it will begin sometime in April.

Thank you, EC. I had gone through lists of network shows looking for something "sf sounding" but hadn't been able to find it.

Hey, my brother Browncoats, please don't forget our show, Surface.

Btw, I'm trying to round up so late night help taking down Jericho on the TV Tally poll. We are within striking distance, after they had a really slow day.

You can vote for Firefly 6 times every 6 hours (in spite of the contrary instructions on the site) so just 4 or 5 people voting tonight will put us in the lead after chasing them from 100 behind for several days.

Let's show those Jericho fans that the most dedicated fans on the net are Firefly fans.

Apologies for the detour on your thread, but the window may only be open for a few more hours.

You will find the details and link on the It Would Be A Kindness thread below this one a few. - Jstn (Ad-Nim-istrator of savesurface.com)

MYGOODEYE

besides Firefly,

the biggest one for me is Freaks and Geeks, still one of my very favourite shows. meant alot to me personally as i was the same age as Lyndsay and goin through nearly exactly what she was (my nan had just died and i'd also left my geeky intelligent friends to hang out with the weed smoking freaks) so i was really gutted about that.

also Futurama (better than the Simpsons!!), and a bit before my time - American Gothic and was Twin Peaks cancelled or was Lynch just being awkward i forget.

i doubt i'll ever get to see Drive over here, and ill have even less chance now its been cancelled! so that too.

Firefly (like, duuuhhh)

plus (in the usual no order):

Dark Angel (just two seasons was a sacrilege)
Drive (I thought this genuninely had potential if it had been given a chance)
Futurama (Bender Rules!!)
Invasion (not a perfect show but very likable)
American Gothic (dark, twisted, evil - what more do you want)

and a new one to the list:

Carnivale (again some great potential, Clancy Brown was brilliant)

and I would maybe add Angel and Due South as well, but whilst they were cancelled, at least they had something of a run.

As for funny situations maybe have some of the people act out various scenes from the shows and get them mixed up with each other i.e. start with a DA sketch that turns into a Futurama sketch.
Or have the know-it-all geeks (no offence to them) point out all the minor little mistakes.
Or maybe just have the people argue over whose show should get resurrected.
Beyond that I don't really know.

Declan, I was wrong about when New Amsterdam would premiere. It will be in two weeks, Tuesday, March 4 on FOX. It will be on at 9pm Eastern/Pacific, following American Idol, so that should help it get some attention.

GAPSULE

Original Battlestar Galactica (although if they didn't cancel this we might not have the A-team we know today, still would've liked it to last longer so they wouldn't do that horrible Battlestar 1980)

Angel (Obvious)

Drive (Obvious)

Tru Calling (I really liked this show)

Dark Angel (Ended on a cliffhanger)

Firefly (Who knows)

Farscape (Awesomeness)

Enterprise (Cancelled as it was getting better)

Reba (I found it funny)

Grounded for Life (I'm looking dumber and dumber aren't I?)

I also liked a show called Black Sash, but in retrospect I think that if I saw that today I would probably think it wasn't that good. If it is how I remember it then yeah I like.

You know, I've been looking at the TV shows that I own and most of them had at most two seasons. Apparently my tastes don't match network television's idea of a good show.

As for story ideas, I'm mostly at a loss but what about a conflict between fan factions. Even within specific fandoms there are differences of opinions. Or in an expanded form, some fandoms are mortal enemies. It seems like room for comedy to me.

REYNOLDSFAN34

I haven't posted in awhile, so hello all. My favorite cancelled shows are:

Alien Nation
Crusade - The great B5 spin-off
This one, Firefly, of course
The Dresden Files, stupid Sci-Fi Channel
ST: Enterprise
Forever Knight
Farscape

And probably a few others I cannot think of.
It always seems that the shows that I get to love, get the axe. Terrible thing. I always wanted to own a network and bring back all the abused shows in the world of SF..

Take care all.
