OK, I've been away for a while. But recently I've been thinking about a Serenity sequel, and as many fans have said, it wouldn't be the same without Wash. Now, I've gone on record as saying that I believe Wash is truly dead, no coming back, no Blue Hands plots, no Reaver resurrection. He's definitely dead. I still believe that. But I had an idea, that probably has been discussed before, but if it was, I missed it. Please excuse me if this is the case.

Anyway, Wash can come back in only one way that I can live with. No, not a clone. No time travel. It's... an android. We've already seen Mr. Universe's love 'bot. So let's say they make a Wash 'bot, and download his memories into it (somehow).

So now Wash is an android duplicate. Imagine the potential story points here. "Hi Zoe, I'm a robot now..."

Thoughts? Rants?

That's just crazy talk. Seriously, I've had my own theories but that one makes them look sane. I take it you meant that as a jest right? I LOVE Wash, I wear Hawaiian shirts and dream of being a pilot myself. Of course I did both long before Firefly even aired. But still I think he's dead for good. Only way I see him coming back is if Joss really wants him too. And if he does I'm sure he could write him back in very skillfully and in a way that pisses off only half the fans. How? I have no idea. Your theory was good for a laugh though. If that was the plot of Serenity 2 I can say that either Joss has nothing to do with it or that he lost his frakking mind. Which I know will never happen... right?

Why, I wouldn't have put it as harshly my own self, but I don't disagree on any particular point. I can just imagine it: "Crew, meet W.A.S.H: our very own Walking Android Substitute Human. Oh, and he can kill you with his pinky!" :) And Zoe: "Right, 'cause what this marriage needs is one more robot!" I mean, seriously.

Nice Out of Gas style flashbacks would suffice for me.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

And where would his memories for download have come from?

As I have said quite a few times, the only legitimate way for either Wash or Book to appear in a sequel would be flashbacks or dream sequences, or if the movie was in fact a prequel.

It's definitely a better idea than some that I've heard (present company excluded), but there's one thing you've gotta remember. Just like Mr. Universe's love-bot, Robot Wash would have the personality of a brick. Or, y'know, a robot. No sly quips, no playing with dinosaurs, just fly the ship. He'd basically be Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I think there could be a lot of fun had with Wash able to plug himself directly into Serenity and stuff like that, but I'd rather Joss do something more true to the characters.

Yeah, I wasn't really serious about the idea. At best it would make a funny/morbid episode of Firefly. I'm having some serious Joss withdrawl...

I just got the idea after watching season 5 of Buffy, with the Buffy bot thing. Never saw much of that series when it was on, but since I've seen all of Angel...

W.A.S.H.: But psychic? Isn't that like something out of science fiction?
Zoe: Wash honey, you are a robot living on a spaceship.
W.A.S.H.: Your point being what?

Maybe Wash was an android all along, posted by a faction of the Alliance to keep an eye on Mal. Maybe Wash didn't know he was an android at all...

Good thing the operative didn't have clearance to know Wash was an unknowingly Alliance agent.

The Alliance said they were gonna waltz through Serenity Valley. And we choked 'em with those words. We've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty.

There's 2 ways I will accept Wash being back..

1. It's in a new TV series that completely ignores the BDM.

2. Flashbacks or memories.

Any androids, ghostys, clones, etc etc, and the show will be dangerously close to shark-jumping for me. Things like that seem to go completely against the gritty-realistic feel that makes the show great.

There's one strange thing in the 'verse, and it's River and the others like her.

I would still be OK with Alan returning as (Hoban) Wash's twin brother.

Yes, no androids, ghosts, clones, twin brothers, wacky nephews, avatars, psychic/astral projection; and certainly not the lame 'It was all just a dream' thingy. Acceptable are flashbacks/memories, or a prequel.
