Where does Derrial come from?

I have seen here people refer to Book as having the name Sheppard Derrial Book. Where does the Derrial come from? In BDM, I always see his gravestone labeled Derria Book.

Somebody help out my memory here?

Shepherd is his job title (kind of like Pastor, or Father). Derrial is his first name. Book is his last name.:smile:

ok, I understood his title was Sheppard. I understood his last name was Book.

I understood that somewhere somebody determined his first name was Derrial, and spelled that way. If that was his canonical name, then it would have been spelled that way on his gravestone in BDM, right? So where is the discrepancy? His gravestone in BDM is spelled Derria. So where does Derrial come from? What source?

The script in the Visual Companion gives the name as Derrial. I don't know why the L is unclear/missing from the grave marker, though.

I don't think that being cautiously ashamed, or selectively ashamed, or in any way ashamed of who I am is any way to live my life.

So this is the Companion for the BDM? Where the funeral scene is? The script says what the gravestone says? I don't have my copy handy to check right now, but is this what you're referring to?

So...after all the responses here with the facts...bottome line :

It's a MISTAKE in the movie...right?

The gravemarker should say Derrial, but it says Derria...right?

Nobody caught that error in the screening room I guess.

IIRC, during the preview showings, the Shepherd's first name was "Meria". Whether this didn't sound macho enough or because Jayne already Has a Girl's Name, this was changed--I think the CGI on the tombstone just isn't clean enough to make the change undetectable.

I've looked at that closely, but didn't change contrast. That just seems goofy that it wouldn't be clear.

Really..the "L" IS there? I'm gonna put in the DVD tonite and check it out again. I must never have looked too close before. Thanks!
