Hey guys and girls,

Just thought everyone might be interested to know that the Actor/Writer/Producer who played "Dr. Mathias" in Serenity (Michael Hitchcock) left Los Angeles today with several other writers, comedians, and actors to do a Support-the-Troops style tour of some of the bases in Iraq.

Besides sacrificing his time and putting all of his projects on hold to do this, he'll be giving away FREE copies of the SERENITY SPECIAL EDITION DVD to the Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen in the audience(s).

Purchased on his own dime, I might add.

As an Active Duty Marine and someone who has been to Iraq, I felt I had to pass the word about this because I think it's great that they're doing it, but also that Serenity is going to be finding it's way into the hands of even more people.

What's even better is that DVDs make a lot of appearances in Iraq- there's only so much room for stuff when people go over there, so we have a tendency to share our movies a lot. I imagine the DVDs will be just about worn out (not to mention switching owners unintentionally probably a dozen times) by the time the eventual owners return home.

Here's Dr. Mathias/Michael Hitchcock's myspace address if anyone's curious. Hopefully some Browncoats will let him know how much we appreciate him keeping the Signal alive.

Well, I guess if you have to choose between bringing a sword and bringing Serenity. . .

Cool! I was wondering when one of the BDHs (technicly Michael was a bad guy in the movie, but I'm taking the liberty to upgrade him) makes a trip to Iraq with a bunch of the DVDs!

I'm not a Marine, but live near Camp Lejuene in NC so my thoughts and prayers are with everyone over there in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I'm glad he's going over there. So few celebrities take the time and effort. And the fact that he's taking Serenity immediately elevates him to BDH status.

I'm sure it will be played and replayed many, many times.

I think it perfectly natural that he would stay away from edged weapons given his character's history...and besides, giving out swords (although cool) wouldn't promote Firefly/Serenity...

Now that I think about it, I also think that it's cool that he chose to buy Serenity DVDs when, as a writer/producer of MAD TV (according to IMDB.com), he could have probably gotten free copies of that show to hand out.

What a great way to both support the troops and promote the 'verse. I may not be 100% behind this war but I support the troops all the way. Without the US military, especially the Marine Corps, this nation wouldn't be what it is today. My father and grandfather(my mothers dad not my fathers) both served in the Marine Corps and I grew up near Paris Island, SC.
