My friend loaned me the DVD box set and told me it was a "must watch". I kinda shrugged it off and let it sit on my fridge for a while and then got sick one day and popped the dvd's in to watch them with my girlfriend.

We watched the entire set that day and now I'm at a loss as to how the series was ever canceled. It is, if not the best series I've ever seen. I just can't believe this thing got canceled. ARGH! Anyway, let me know if there's anything I can do to help get this show back on the air, or if there's something else I can do to help out :)

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the board LostAnge1! Glad to see another convert to Firefly. It sure is good to see your friend spreading such a great show through the DVD. I know I have several of my friends hooked after giving the DVDs as Xmas gifts.

There are a lot of great people here, so kick back, make yourself at home and discuss Firefly. Keep your fingers crossed for the movie Joss is pitching at Universal and maybe we will all get to see Serenity fly again.

I've been a Firefly addict from the beginning, but I'm new to the board. I didn't know you were all out here. (All together now: DUH!) But I'm so pleased to have found you--a whole community of people who feel just as strongly about this show as I do.

I just got my DVD set a couple of weeks ago and I've been going through that whole thing all over again: "I can't believe they cancelled this show." Like LostAnge1, I stumbled across Firefly by accident the first time, too. I just sat there thinking, "This is the best thing I've seen. Ever." The writing is amazing--so intelligent, so polished, so funny and original. And there are so many layers to it. Every time I watch an episode I notice something new.

Anyway, I'm so glad you're all out here, keeping the faith. I can't shake this feeling that we haven't seen the last of Firefly. I have a gut-feeling that we're just at the beginning of a real phenomenon. I hope I'm right!

Welcome Aboard (as our beloved Kaylee once said)! It's great to have you.

On that note, I have recently converted a "Firefly Foe"...my brother spent all of November and December teasing me about the #1 item on my Christmas list...Firefly. Then came January 2 when he got the flu and had to have something to watch...sure enough, I caught him trying to sneak my DVD set out of the house on his way back to college last night. He looked right at me and said, "Gorram, Joelle, I hate to admit but I'm addicted and it's your fault...hand them over." Sure, I laughed at the Gorram bit, but I still didn't let go of my death grip on the box set.

I believe my exact reply was: I swear by my pretty flowered bonnet you take these out that door and I'll end you.

LOL, nice. I'm working on getting a few of my friends to buy the set for themselves. As soon as I save up some cash, I'll buy my own boxed set. :)

I've been a fan since the beginning, i can even pinpoint the exact moment i fell in love with 'Firefly'. It was 'The Train Job' the first episode aired on Fox, and it was the moment when Mal is talking to Crow at the end, and then kicks him into the engine. I just sat there with my mouth gaping, thnking "that was the greatest thing i have ever seen."

When THE TRAIN JOB first aired I was on vacation with my girlfriend in Myrtle Beach. I didn't want her to think I was such a huge nerd that I would spend our Vacation watching a SciFi show... so I called my mom (long distance) to get her to tape it for me

Yeah...I'm hooked too. I had heard of the show last year, but never got a chance to see it. When the box set hit the stores last month, our Sam Goody's had it on sale for a stunning low price of $19.95! (I even asked the clerk if he was sure it was the right price) Good enough reason for a blind purchase. After watching it, my jaw was aching after repeated impacts with the floor. How in the world did this masterpiece get canceled while other forms of brainless tripe continues to fill the airwaves?...("reality" shows, etc) Shows like Enterprise have budgets larger than Firefly, yet they are allowed to continue production despite bland writing, predictable plot lines and low viewership. Fox really screwed the pooch on this one.

It was the train job for me, too. I still remember exactly when it happened: When they were on the edge of the cliff outside the bar and Serenity comes flying up...I got so excited because I KNEW I was in for something amazing. That shot still gives me chills and I've watched it too many times to count.

I am also new to the series and also a new addict. I had a friend visit this weekend and he brought the Firefly DVDs. I have heard of the series and actually seen one episode (Shindig) but wasn't really impressed. But when I watch the episode "Serenity" I was just amazed by the series and could not stop watching the series. I liked the series sooo much I went out and bought the boxset myself just to watch it over again. But i have to agree with everyone here, when i was watching the series the whole time i was saying "why was this cancelled". I was sad when I was done, I didn't want it to end :(

See, I liked it upon first seeing it, but I didn't know it was worth taping until Out of Gas. I missed the train job and several subsequeint episodes thanks to my sister. Strangely enough, when I watched the DVD with her, she didn't really like it for a while. She watched 2 and a half disks without excitement, but when she went back to college, she called to say she liked it. I think part of this is because the early episodes provide the conflicts that are exaberated in later episodes.

Not new to Firefly, but I am new here. Just signed on yesterday. I'm a long-time chat room junkie and was looking forward to chatting here, but my hidownload tells me mIRC has a bit too much spy-ware for my taste. I'll have to catch folks on the java, if it ever works. (I won't hold my breath...heh)

I don't know how long my Jayne obsession will last, but I've got it bad right now. I currently have about five Adam Baldwin movies in my Netflix queue so I'll be seeing them relativelly soon, if I don't decide to watch SHOGUN first.

At least I know there is some hope for my obsession not being too terrible; I REFUSE to sit through another Stanely Kubrick film so I won't be seeing one of his most famous roles. I just watched THE SHINING for the first time last week; if Nicholson can't make a Kubrick film stop me from falling asleep, nothing can. Only part I liked was the "Give me the bat" scene and even then I just kept thinking that Homer did it funnier.

Anyway, I've been known to ramble in my conversations and postings so you can probably ignore most of what I say.

Take care, all

Hey all

Just finished watching the series. I have serious chills. And a great big pain in my stomach knowing no new episodes are forthcoming. This this series is absolutely incredible. I really don't have the words to fully express myself right now (I need to watch the whole series again to better appreciate my own reaction).

I so glad I found you guys. I feel like a guy in empty field whose discovered gold....HOW COULD THEY CANCELL THIS SHOW WHILE MUTANT X IS IN ITS THIRD SEASON!!

I don't have the words right now....incredible show...

Kala:
As a fellow Michigan Firefly fan...welcome! (I actually just arrived myself a few days ago after watching the DVDs on Christmas day.)

See, I WAS a reformed Firefly junkie. I was SO upset when Fox cancelled it I boycotted Fox (Yes, I gave up Simpsons and 70s Show) until Keen Eddie came along (which had GREAT camera work/angles..very different...like some "other" show we know). They of course cancelled that as well. So I pushed all things Fox out of my mind and tried to let go. Then I saw the Firefly DVD box and it came right back...I now sit and wait to get some more Jayne tasty however i can get it. And I don't have to feel bad about that because I sat through Independence Day a second time JUST to see Adam Baldwin in uniform.

"Is that glass bullet proof?"

"NO, SIR"

BECKINSALE

I'm a new Browncoat also! I've been lurking around here for a few days.

I got the box set for Christmas. It's an odd story, actually. (Not interesting. Just odd.lol)

I'd seen part of maybe two episodes when it was on air, but it didn't really grab me. The cancellation meant nothing to me. (At the time!)
Then I heard about the DVD's. Now, I'm a big Jewel Staite from way back (about 7-8 years.) And as a HUGE Buffy fan, I know Joss is a freakin' genius. So, I asked for the set for Christmas. Didn’t really have a reason. Just had a feeling. So, I opened it up... and I was giddy. I believe my exact thoughts on that were, "What the hell? Why do I care?" I guess it had to do with that feeling again. Like I was about to experience TRUE entertainment. So, I watched “Serenity” and ended up watching the entire set until the wee hours of the next morning. Now I just can't stop watching. I'm officially beyond addicted. It's a little scary, actually.

I can’t even express how amazing the show was! It was just incredible… perfection… classic, and FREAKIN’ BRILLIANT! I’m at an utter loss as to how the series was cancelled. I’m very glad to have found a place where others feel the same way. It’s quite comforting.

Shiny! Ni haody and welcome aboard, browncoat! I've been wondering how many of you there are out there - them as found the DVDs and got to enjoy them without having gone through the agony of the cancellation. Also, your friend deserves credit for being trustworthy enough that you would watch it purely through his recommendation. Might not surprise you to learn that several Browncoats were converted this way, and you are in good company.

Come by often - set a spell. Sing along with the music - we all know the tune, after all, don't we?

Welcome to IrisAnne, MO1962, Hex20, BlueSunCorporateGoon, LadyJayne, Rosebud, and Beckinsale. It is great to have new Browncoats here, some who may have been around lurking longer than others.

It is really great to hear stories on how the DVDs are turning more people on to Firefly. It is really encouraging to see new Browncoats swelling the ranks. The more fans, the more DVDs that sell, and the brighter the future for Firefly.
