Outside of the time lines that are available (Edgar's, Jill's, Firefly Wiki's, etc) ... is there a history of the 'Verse that details things like when certain planets/moons were terraformed/settled? I'm working on creating a genealogy for Mal (and some of the other characters) based on the info Geoff Mandel put out on the "To Be Bound" poster of Mal. Creating 600 years of fake genealogy (and tying it into real genealogy lines circa 1900) isn't as easy as it sounds, especially whilst working in a 'Verse far, far away :) I'm hoping in the course of the RPG or some other FF/S project, someone has come up with this info ... and I just haven't found it yet? I don't know that on top of creating 600 years of genealogy I can also create a back history for an entire 'verse!!! :)
Thanks in advance for any help!

Wow, you've really given yourself a task! I can't wait to see it.

The RPG has lots of info about the different planets and the order in which they were settled but no specific dates.

My theory is that Mal's Pa was from the Core, a younger son of a fairly well to do family from Londinium. He sort of galivanted around 'verse for a while after university trying to "find himself" and met and married Mal's Ma, who was born on Shadow. Unfortunately, he was shot and killed by a drunk ranch hand a week before Mal was born. That left Mal's Ma to run the ranch and raise Mal on her own.

I also like to think that Alex Tully, Nathan Fillion's character in the short lived series Drive, was an ancestor of Mal's. Tim Minear (assistant producer of Firefly, writer of several episodes and director of one Firefly episode) wrote and produced Drive and lots of Mal's character traits appeared in Alex Tully.

And that Major John Casey of Chuck, is a better educated ancestor of Jayne Cobb. The writers at Chuck seem to be very familiar with Jayne. .

:) I did kill off Pa (Thomas Bevan Reynolds) when Mal was wee ... 4, I think. The nice thing about this being in the future is I can change it LOL. Mostly I've been working on the Reynolds line - tying him to Monty (2nd cousins) and getting a few of the lines tied back in to actual families circa 1900. Even have some Fillion in there (though no idea if it's Nathan's Fillion line. There was more than one Fillion immigrant to Nouvelle France - and I haven't been able to firm up Nathan's personal genealogy beyond his parents). Guess it's time to delve into the RPG - beyond the maps that is. I love maps :)

Thanks for the heads up!

Wikipedia, though not always accurate, is right on with the 'Verse history.

That's right, you can change it any way you want too.

I like Mal having Monty as a second cousin. Not immediate family, but close enough for Mal to have known him, especially since rural families are close.

You're right. we don't know anything about Nathan's personal genealogy. He hasn't settled down yet.

I love the RPG book. Lots of details about everything. I refer to it constantly for fic ideas.

One thing I want to know though, how did we both come up with the same name for Mal's Pa? At least for a first name.

Oh, and Mal's Ma shot and killed her husband's murderer with the gun that Mal now carries.

I took Pa's name straight off the "to Be Bound" poster that Geoff Mandel put out ... it's the only place I've ever seen Mal's parent's names... maybe you have a touch of the third eye?
Maybe Geoff read some fic and added a middle name? :D
