I'll be asking a question about the Serenity graphic novel "Those Left Behind," so there'll be spoilers - if you haven't read it, then you shouldn't read this...

Anyway, I was just wondering what Badger's role in the thing was...

Did he know about there being no treasure? Was he working for Dobson? Or was it just a coincidence? Also, did Dobson plan on having the crew end up at the site of the Battle of Sturges? Or did he just track them and decide that was the best place to spring into action?

It just seemed to me that the battle site was a PART of Dobson's plan - and unless Badger was part of the plan too, they would never have gone there...

Anyone wanna shed some light onto this???

Judging by the fact that Mal & Co. are no longer dealing with Badger in the BDM, I think it's likely that they think Badger was knowingly setting them up.

That's not proof, but, when you come down to it, either Badger finked them out, or he's incompetent enough for Dobson & crew to have played him. Either way, not someone you want picking your jobs for you.

I'm of the mind that Badger was played. The crew got the drop on him and his crew for once and left him out in the wild to walk back all by his little lonsome. Once they got back the Serenity crew put the word out that Badger's reputation was inflated and he couldn't get a crew a "quick and clean" job for nothin. He might have a grudge to bear against the crew but his power-base is shot straight to a special Hell. Since he only operated out of Persephony and Serenity could travel he hade bigger fish to fry and if there is karma in the 'Verce, he learned a lesson in humility.
