Most of the Firefly fanvids that were posted on YouTube now seem to have been removed - word is, this is due to Fox getting umpty about copyright. ('Cos, yeah, of course the work of a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs posting home-made vids set to a bit of music of their choice is threatening to overthrow the civilised world.)

So: is this a problem that's unique to YouTube, or are Fox gunning for every Firefly/Serenity fanvid that's out there in the 'Verse? Has anyone found any other shared video sites that are hosting Firefly/Serenity fanvids without Murdoch The Merciless flexing his media muscles?

And is there a fanvid format people can use without incurring the wrath of Fox? For instance, shoving 'Copyright Fox' or whatever at the beginning of the fanvid to appease their bloated, wobbly, self-inflated egos?

Seems like these people are playing Dog in the Manger. Kind of, "We didn't want the series, but you fans can't play with it, it's ours!" whine whine stomp stomp gnashing teeth

If Fox can't stop throwing tantrums, someone oughta show them how to play nice.

While I understand copyright and whatever, I just don't think that the studios understand how much vids and fic feed the fire of fandom.

Wow. That's an utterly rediculous sentence. Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.

If I didn't have fanfic and vids, I might have lost interest in the X-Files and Firefly a while ago. Not because these shows aren't great... but you can only watch the DVDs a million or so times before you start jonesing for something new and you get angry that there isn't anything new to be had... except fic and vids.

It costs money, but back in the day - before You Tube - vidders usually had their own webites. They very rarely got shut down because only the fans knew where to find them. You Tube is just so blatant. We knew this would happen sooner or later.

"Can you, for a moment, imagine how depressing it is to teach one thousand years of masculine ineptitude? Why do you think there are so few women historians? I'll tell you why. Because history is not such a frolic for women as it is for men... History is a commentary on the various and continuing incapabilities of men. History is women following behind with a bucket and a mop." - Alan Bennett, "The History Boys"
