One shiny day I found a short, but very touching online movie, called: "An Interview with God." It's a virtual, erm, yeah, interview with God. :) So, in like style, I present to you:

"Dear and fluffy Lord," The Interview.

Project this type, it's very tempting to go all out on the funny side. Yet I primarily wanted to make something classy. Now, I ain't saying it ain't funny. It wouldn't exactly be Firefly if it weren't, would it? But, overall, I meant to be serious (let's call it "seriously funny;" works for me). Coming up with half-way meaningful phrases and sayings is hard, though. Especially what with this being my very first fanvid and all. So, take what you find poetic, try not to faint, and with the breathe of kindness blow the rest away.

Ok, the remainder is mostly geek speak. :) 'Cept for the download links, of course.

I originally made this as a flash presentation. But I soon learnt that the major Flash players for the major web players don't run SWF files at the exact same speed. How typical. So, however well I searched the place, in the end I could find no reliable cross-browser manner to synchronize the accompanying sound track at the right speed (no "Ooo, synchronizers!" Erlebnis for me, I'm afraid). Well, if your quarry goes to sound, leave no sound to go to... Meant to say, I removed the sound problem! :) The high speed ActionScript transition playback issues were damaging my calm anyway. So, using the vastly superior H264 codec, I converted everything to a regular movie: all neatly wrapped and synced, video and sound alike, inside one of them new .mkv containers. Just right-click and download it (the movie comes in two flavors):

http://www.bigdamnthankyou.com/movies/dearandfluffylord.H264.high.zip (174 MB)
http://www.bigdamnthankyou.com/movies/dearandfluffylord.H264.medium.zi
p
(26 MB)

Both are Matroska (.mkv) files. Chances are you already have the H264 codec. If not, I highly recommend this wee player:

http://www.kmplayer.com/down/kmp.exe

A highly versatile and small .mkv player with built-in H264 codec, for your convenience. :) And if for some unforeseen reason you really can't get H264 to work, there's always the Windows Media Video version in AVI format:

http://www.bigdamnthankyou.com/movies/dearandfluffylord.WMV.high.zip (70 MB)

FYI, image quality and colordepth of the AVI (155 MB unpacked) are comparable to that of the medium quality H264 (34 MB unpacked).

And finally, it took decidedly longer to make than it will take you to watch, I can pretty much guarantee that. Nevertheless you oughta feel free to diss it. Though I would take it as a kindness if you didn't. :)

That was gorgeous! I actually got choked up. Don't know if you're religious or not, but I found it very respectfully handled, and yet with a sense of humor and warmth that really fit with Firefly. Great work!

Thanks for sayin', Merryk. :) I am, in fact, religious. It's just not something I bring up in this 'Verse a lot. You know, men of God make everyone feel guilty and judged. :) I'm just glad I got the balance right, apparently.
