I would welcome a second movie very much, and please forgive my ignorance, but why hasn't the Sci-Fi channel picked this series up for new episodes? Is it because of the anti-corporate sentiments?

First off, Rallem welcome to you! I see this is one of your first posts. :-)
We have a tradition around here that I don't get to indulge very often anymore and that is that all new folks receive a virtual browncoat when they join the crew.

*hands Rallem a browncoat from the storeroom*

We're glad to have you on our boat. :-)

I don't believe the anti-corporate sentiments have anything to do with it. Firefly in it's incarnation as a show is over and gone. Not likely to come back. ( Although I certainly wish it would! ) Since it moved on to being the movie Serenity and Serenity did very poorly at the box office it's a matter of money. Plain and simple.
It didn't make enough money to warrant becoming a franchise so Uni has been waiting to see what the DVD sales will show, if anything. If we ever sell enough and the fandom grows enough, there will be enough money potential for Uni to consider something more. What that something more will be, we'll have to see.

In the meantime, I hang out here, do as many good works as I can and enjoy my friends. I hope you'll do the same.

Someone'll be along soon to offer you something good from the galley. If FloralBunny puts up the shimmerwine fountain I'll be back.

Make yourself to home. :-)

By the by, your banner is beautiful.

I've been thinking about your the comments stating that the series is dead and gone, and I just don't see it that way. The series ended with several unanswered questions and the movie did a great job of answering those that really needed it but it also did a great job of not answering some important questions like those regarding the Preacher, and it also raised some new questions and opened itself up to the possibilities of a new series.

Joss himself said that Firefly was gone, Serenity was what took it's place. :-)
The universe that Joss created isn't dead and gone, no way... it's here in our fandom, in the movie with it's answers and questions and in Joss' mind.
I'm not saying the 'Verse is dead. I'm saying that Firefly the way it was is gone. There is hope for something more ( slim I know but hope ) be it in the form of another movie ( slimmest ), a direct to DVD movie ( slimmer ) or a totally new series set in the 'Verse ala BSG ( the new one ).

ETA: None of these thing are possible soon I'd reckon, or we'd be hearing more than rumors... we'd be hearing real evidence of it.

If I had my druthers, it'd be Firefly with the same cast, with all of us making it a hit! But I don't get my druthers very often I've noticed. :-)
Still I've got hope, and I'm not going anyplace, "this boat is my home." I'm holdin' til Mal gets back.

Regarding why scifi can't produce Firefly even if it wanted to, I was under the impression that Fox controlled the rights to a TV version. Was this incorrect? Isn't the legalities with Fox the reason no other network can produce Firefly again?

... and since FOX owns the rights, they wouldn't want to be proven wrong in their choice to end the series prematurely by allowing another network to turn it into a success.

Rupert Murdock and his cronies make me ill. I want more Firefly.

A-ruttin'-men, FM!

BELIEVE!

As for /your/ question, JSF, F*X does, indeed currently hold Firefly hostage to their evil ways, i.e., they still profit handsomely offa sales of the Firefly series DVD *spits on ground,* which isn't gonna stop me buyin' it, as I may have need to to recruit new Browncoats (might click on the link 'neath my siggy, to see the current effort). They also hold the rights to that series, which they killed, so no one else can continue it, 'less F*X decides they can.

Which they won't, without a BIG pile of cashy money, which Joss don't have, and, even if he did, might not be able to get the show made anywhere else. That's kinda why, as FollowMal said, Firefly is purt near to gone as a show can get.

Serenity, on the other hand, is full of possibilities. Joss never got to empty his head of all the stories he had left to tell; that kinda pressure can give a man an awful headache.

Joss wants to share those stories. I aim to do my part to help him. Joss told us the best chance of a sequel lies with sales of the BDCE; I'm up to 12 BDCEs bought, needin' at least 3 more for November.

I'll be in my bunk ('cause, it's bed time).
