The episode "Magnificent Warriors" in the original BSG took place in SERENITY- a town that you never left once you became sheriff.

More influence on a young Joss???

hell, yes! and you only have to look at Zoe's threads - she could've stepped right out of an old Viper.

Got Screencaps ?

I also seem to have a vestigial

memory of a town called 'Serenity' , in an old

Western...I think Raquel Welch might have been

in it...'Course , it could just be my brain

confabulatin' again...

Ok, ok okI got it!
Joss is a young clone of Glen Larson, without any conscious memories, but genetically retains all that Glen did. Therefore, he tried to copy BSG, but mixed up the details.
AANDD.. Glen also did Buck Rogers!!
What comparisons do we have there?

Hence the casting of Monica- another man-killer type!

I finally see how Joss is the ultimate copycat- just like Tarantino!!!

Playin' it Chrisisall

Magnificent Warriors...great episode with Twilight Zone veteran Barry Nelson, and Match Game icon Brett Sommers( wife of Jack Klugman ).
Quite the "Whedonesque-type" presentation, with drama & humor & ironic twists aplenty.

Hey Chris...it's been a real kindness having you post all this original BSG stuff lately. Because of it, I watched Living Legend and Planet of the Gods this past weekend. Most shiny, and for my money the closest thing I own to Firefly. You da manisall!

I'm goin' thru 'em sequentially, as I just got the set. Tonight (after this post) it's Young Lords and Living Legend. No CGI can match Dykstra's stuff here, and that's good, 'cause they re-use it over and over.

And I'm not totally kidding about the seeds this show probably planted in Joss' skull.

Can't wait for War Of The Gods Chrisisall

Be sure you check out the BSG featurette on the last disc for comments by Patrick McNee and Anne Lockhart about War of the Gods. He's a hoot and she is still amazing.

So I'm not the only one watching the old series...

Apparently Galactica1980 is coming out on DVD Dec 26, 2007. Ya it paled HUGELY in comparison but... I'm weak. I'll buy it.

Zoe, a Colonial Warrior... holy frak! Sheba look out!

Actually I had this idea floating around in my head about a... gasp... crossover. Ok forget I said anything.

These are not the droids you are looking for...

...HUH...

As in: "Once you enter Serenity, you never leave"? Hmm, gotta say, I reckon you're on to something. :)

I always got the idea Joss was inspired, in part, by the "Betty" and crew (Alien 4); but it looks like things went back way further.

I just pre-ordered on Amazon, I haven't seen any of the episodes since 1980 yet I remember them all so well..........some fond memories I'm looking forward to seeing from half my life ago :
1) Robyn Douglass in her time-travelled "white" Colonial uniform
2) Judith Chapman's performance in The Return of Starbuck....like some kind of cosmic angel
3) Pamela Susan Shoop in all her glory in the pilot episode as Robert Reed's assistant. She was in the Original BSG only as an interviewer on TV screen....interviewing Starbuck. And her "Tangy" outfit from Buck is unforgettably etched into my brain
4) Herb Jefferson Jr. aka Boomer is in a couple of episodes
5) Richard Lynch, another Original BSG & Buck veteran, has a great role as renegade officer Xavier; travels back in time to attempt to change the future. He always delievers a great performance
6) Tons of great period cameos including Wolfman Jack and some legends from many sci-fi B movies.

The price of this DVD set is extremely reasonable, so for me it was an easy choice to purchase.

A crippling fire onboard, an explosion that mortally wounds a major character, venting that fire into space....

"Fire In Space"?
"Out Of Gas"?

It's getting too close now....
