just mulling over info on blue glovers. river keeps saying "two by two, hands of blue" maybe meaning: four actual people? maybe two sets of cloned men, one set in the field (outer rim) and one set in the core. this might explain how blue glovers arrived so soon in ariel ep. river's holographic brain scan lit up like a christmas tree upon blue glovers arrival. this infers she can sense the presence of blue glover's thoughts at a distance. since she can do this, it invalidates idea that blue glovers are androids. however, can the blue glovers sense her? i don't think they have ability to read minds since one asked if guards had spoken to prisoners. blue glovers did follow river and co. unerringly as they were escaping hospital, not running though. the blue act in a notably disconnected manner. very non-emotional. possibly a result of mind alteration? the ship they arrived in was VERY high-tech! privy to cutting edge/advanced technology (and weapons). blue glovers have classified security clearances as inferred in bushwacked by the tam's file. my guess is that the blue glovers work for covert ops or intelligence corps (like cia). they definitely dress like government agents. the gloves they wear could be to prevent fingerprint i.d., but there are also retina, voice, genetic scans that can be used to determine identification. the blue gloves they wear are probably for another reason. maybe to cover up some deformity. what if the gloves don't stop at the hands? maybe they're a BODY GLOVE!if anybody has other theories/insights, i'd be interested to hear them.thanx so much!

Thanks, humble. I think the "two by two" thing indicates that they always come in pairs. Maybe they can read minds, but they can't admit it. Don't know, can be cliche-y. I agree with you on mind-alteration. They were volunteers for another Alliance Academy, were experimented on, and then those who survived did it to other people, making more blue hands, and then did experiments on people like River to see what else they can get by altering the mind. Maybe Blue Hands tie into Blue Sun? They are reconized to be from Blue Sun because of Blue Hands. Then again, the Blue Sun idea is just a theroy.

Very nice, I do that a lot. Just think. Keep flyin'

They might have been through a frontal lobotomy, which basically eliminates emotions. That would counteract the lack of emotional control from having their amygdalas (amygdalae?) stripped. However, it drops your IQ 30-60 points. Maybe why they only accept the smartest people?

i agree with blue sun corp. involvement with river's condition. river is certainly being developed for a specific end use. dobson said she was a "valuable commodity". i like the frontal lobotomy idea for the neutral emotional state of the blue glovers. could this have been done to them by others to make operatives more compliant and unquestioning of repulsive/illegal orders of superiors? (they do act somewhat like zombies) an insight i had into river saying: "they come out of the bike" could the "bike" have been the blue glover's transport ship? i wonder if the blue glovers are affiliated with the alliance proper. how can they come into a security station and kill off everyone without consequences? i mean, they didn't even hesitate to kill these people. they must be playing out some sort of standard operating procedure. if they don't even want alliance members privy to their doings, then who the hell are these guys working for? is blue sun the government or is blue sun trying for a coup?

cry baby, cry. make your momma sigh!

It makes sense that it is Blue Sun ...

Neat Observation:
The labels on the food items that River tore off in (Durn it, I fergot the episode name)were Blue Sun products and had the BS logo on 'em.

Hummm ... BS (get the typical Whedon joke in the initals?) is a HUGE corporation and weild the power of commerce ... think of a Uber-Conglomerate ... Boss Tweed would be proud of BS.

Anyhoo, I think BS is 'feared' by the Federal Marshals because of the immense power that Blue Sun apperently has over the Core worlds in the form of control of nearly all commerce in the Core.

I substaniate that by noting the plethora of Blue Sun signs, labels etc all over the Rim worlds and the absoulute glut of the signs on the Core worlds we have seen.

I am not sure it is a coup, but a consolidation of power ... meebe to thwart the efforts of the REAL EVIL bad guys : The Reavers.

Whatcha think?

Anyone noticed the color of the gloves Simon and Mal are wearing when they operate on Kaylee in the pilot?

Disposable gloves manufactured for medical use are always blue.

Yeah, I noticed that, but only AFTER I got halfway to the door intent on fleeing at top speed down the hall, possibly screeching all the way...

My doc and his assistant came into the room to discuss re-fitting my prosthetic, and it was just a TOTALLY wig-out moment to see em both wearing blue gloves... I got maybe three steps to the door before noticing the glove dispenser, which (used to be white gloves mind) was all blue gloves now instead.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but damn, medical stuff creeps me out to begin with, and to see THAT when already in a "weird mental place" would be enough quail the toughest soul.

I think, just for an instant, I got a clue where River "is" mentally, and it's sooo gotta suck.

Figured y'all might be amused by that,

Interesting. I have a fear of dark places because of Bushwacked. Reavers freak me out. *shivers*

]Not really. I am an EMT and all the gloves I use are yellow. Blue means they are made of rubber.

Huh, the gloves I see at the VA hospital are green ...

Lets see - there are several types of rubber gloves. Latex, poly-something-or-other, powdered, non powdered ...

I bet the color denotes what type they are.

I gotta dig out my ned supply catalogues and check it out!

RISKEVERYTHING

The gloves I used in my Spring'03 semester Chem1 lab were white, then in my Fall'03 semester Chem2 lab we had blue gloves.

I only have lab on Friday morning, and I have the Earth Club meetings on Friday afternoons when we empty the recycling cans, so I'd always take an extra pair of gloves from lab to use later in the day....
