By the way, ever find yourself wondering around the video store looking for a movie with the quality as firefly then walk out because such quality doesn't exsist.

Yes. That's the problem with Firefly: it's set the entertainment bar so high that anything else is like weak tea.

Watch Chuck to get your Adam Baldwin fix. It's entertaining and funny and very sweet. Also the acting's good and the lead is an adorable geek.

Um..... no. As much as I liked the movie and waited a hella long time for it (going from watching the show to waiting for the movie was an agonizing time) I confess to it not being the standard for me in which movies I watch. It was good don't get me wrong and I waited a long time for it, but in comparison to the show, I felt it fell flat in many places.

If your fading light is the hope for BDS, I cannot suppoirt that.
If Joss isn't giving up, why should I?
It took a decade after the death of Star Trek before Paramount figured out how much money they could make with more.
I understand that those of you who had to wait 3 years for the BDM, and have spent another 2 years hoping for news of more of our BDH, but I'm willing to wait more (not patiently, tho). I only hope our fave BDH will still be available so we don't need to have role substitutions (like, gorram Batman or James Bond actor of the moment).

Shoreguy,

I know it looks dire on the quick look, but look and listen deeper. I know it's hard to wait and I myownself think our chances have gotten smaller but here recently there's cause for a bit of hope. :)

3 things give me pause and make me happy...

Joss said the sales of the CE will impact whether or not we get more. That gives us something we can REALLY do, a way to have an effect. Buy the CE for your friends and family for gifts this holiday seasaon, share the beauty that is Firefly/Serenity. Join in with fandom efforts to have a "buy the CE day" when we have one.

Joss and the BDH's have all recently said in various interviews that they love the 'Verse and they're interested in doing more. That's a wonderful thing. They still love it as much as we do. They're actors and in Joss' case a man who must move forward with all the ideas in his head.
They have to make a living and become interested in new things, it's a given. To know that they all love this project after all this time and remain loyal to it as we do says a lot.

This fandom is still here, still doing good works ( see how much we raised for Equality Now with the CSTS screenings and the recent KidsNeedtoRead charity that was inspired within our ranks ) and still interested in more and willing to put their wallets and their mouths behind it. Look at all the recently released QMX products officially santioned by Uni. There are three BC events this fall! Two conventions and a Cruise. The RPG is being expanded. We're alive and well- all of us.
While we live and breathe as Browncoats every day, the wish and hope for a sequel is alive and well.

What's with all this doom and gloom? We're browncoats ain't we? We've done the impossible! Just look at all we've accomplished, against the odds, despite what naysayers wrote on the boards and in articles. We got our dvd set, we got the BDM, we have comics, statues, action figures, collectible cards, ornaments, and all the shiny stuff at QMx. No reason to believe we're done yet.

Quittin' ain't in our dictionary. We stop when Joss says it's over. Not before.

I dunno, Canter... there was a thread re: sales up in the first couple of weeks after it's release.

Right now... it's not even in the top 100 sellers at Amazon.com. Sales online have always been our strongest suit. We aren't apparently doing that at the moment.

I'd like to see us have a fandom wide buying day before the holidays to boost the sales. Just sayin'.

IMHO, ShoreGuy is just as pretty as us, maybe just a tad more realistic by nature and being enthusiastic has become hard to do. That happens. Pefectly pretty in it's own way. :-)

There are BC's who have become bitter, despondent, low of spirit and have quit having fun.
That's sad. For them as well as for us all.

We have so much to be grateful for as Browncoat1 says above. I like to turn my mind to those things and hope for the future... not unrealistically... but with involvement and happiness.

Followed your prospero forums discussion last week about attitudes between Browncoats. You have class, lady.

In the contest of Us vs. Them, the PTB make better Thems than fellow Browncoats. We need even more cooperation between Browncoats if we're going to see more of the 'verse. And I agree, we have so much to already be grateful for, and more on the way.

Don't Stop...Belevin'...hold on to that feelin'!

I can not and will not ever give up hope. Until the day I die, I will be preaching Shepherd Book's good word of Serenity to everyone I can find. There are many fans of many shows out there, from Star Trek to Star Wars, BSG to SG but none are Browncoats. We fought the Alliance and we won and damnit to hell, WE WILL NOT GO OUT WITHOUT ANOTHER FIGHT! AND ANOTHER! AND ANOTHER! Until every ear has heard, every eye has seen and every psyche has been touched, WE WILL HOLD THE LINE! why? It's quite simple really:

YOU CAN'T STOP THE SIGNAL!

Alright, not to sound bitchy or highjack this thread OR to discourage the Browncoats out there from fighting for the cause, I just want to reiterate the reason some people may not be fighting as hard any more is because after 5 years PEOPLE GET TIRED.

It's not that they've given up the fight or lost all hope, but they had to go from dissapointment of watching their show shuffled around every Friday (I still remember when I'd turn on the tv and wonder why an Adam Sandler film was on in place of my Firefly. Adam Sandler? WTF?) from cacellation, from fighting for it to come back (friggenfux) to waiting and fighting and more waiting to finally hearing those words "We're making a movie." to waiting for the movie (and the shock therein, but I won't go into that) only to see the low box office reciepts.

At that point many of the Veterans who started the campaign to getting it back on the air had..... I won't say given up. Retired may be the proper word, allowing fresh troops to come and take up the call. And I've been coming here since the cancellation so I've seen a loooooot of people come and go, and come and go.

I'm not trying to start an argument, I just want the new recruits to understand that those you who say are doomsayers, grumbling and moaning that nothing may come of it, they're just tired, weary, have been through this 2 (now 3 times) and are beggining to wonder if they just shouldn't move along for good. But never once will you find that these people (the Vet's) have lost all hope. If we did we never would have had a movie.

So I encourage the troops to rally and fight, just remember there may come a time when you'll feel the need to step aside and let the fresh troops take your cause.

I definately see where you are coming from Misstress. Five years for a tv programme is a long time.
to tell you the truth i really would just settle for a books.
that is what they've done with star wars excetra. i don't care when where or how, i just want the story.
Tell the generals we will stand guard while they resume their strength. I just can't believe the money that the company is willing to loose by not returning such a much loved Series. they would be rolling in it if they just let Joss tell his story and let's face it, isn't the money all they care about.

well i disagree completely johanna - star wars has had six films plus two spin off features, two cartoon shows and an xmas special - with two more series coming up!

but Mistress - tut tut - come and go, it's a harsh life being a fan - of course it is and sheesh! we are a caring community, people get fatigue they need rest sometimes sure!:)

but think of the trek fans - the BDM felt a little flat to you?... so now you're in danger of righting off anything new?? trek fans had to suck on 'Spocks Brain' they had to 'Journey to Eden' - yet they kept their flame bright and they knew darn well the people that MADE Trek genuinely loved it - 10 years they wanted more and they waited and they got.... Star Trek The Motion Picture

and Gorram if the arguments weren't exactly the same as for the BDM!!! What was with Kirk being so obesessive - why was Spock so Cold - and scotty hardly in it - yadda yadda.

They got Wrath of Khan coz they kept going - and it did real well and everybody loved everybody all over again and then they made the Search For Spock and i shot myself.

I gather after that there were whales and jet boots...

and then they announced The Next Generation - we were in the 1990s now - jeez - and star trek with the WRONG cast??? but they made it anyhow and it did real well and everybody loved everybody all over again - and star trek span off in all directions and there were series and movies everywhere and so i shot myself all over again.

BUT

it goes to show you never can tell.

Personally, I am hoping for a low/mid-budget direct-to-DVD-something. I think this is the most realistic outlook at this point. Unfortunately the absolute number of us "Serenifly" fans is still relatively small.

Oh don't we know that Star Wars has had alot more special treatment than Firefly, but what i'm saying is that Joss Wheedon says that it's weird having a story and not being able to share it and i'm saying that i would buy his book if we even had to have the story that way.
With star wars, because they can't make enough movies to keep the fans happy they write the stories. My husband has about 2 book shelves full of starwars.
I'm just saying that i would have the story of firefly anyway i can until it's back on Tv. Even on toilet paper

a very fair reply - sorry if i didn't read you right.

i too would get with firefly/serenity in any medium (joss once said he'd do it even it had to be radio - and of course there were some very fine radio ersions of star wars - so what about it then joss??? babylon 5 has audio even.)

as for getting your name wrong - i am really sorry, i'm very poor sighted and make mistakes like that far too often (plus i've been listening to a lot of dylan - so i might have been thinking of Visions of Johanna). did i mention i have a big mouth too?
In any case, my definite bad.

I agree. :-)

Just like the WaveCard idea though, Browncoat1, it'll take mass #'s of people doing it. It'll take coordination and a spread of the idea and an acceptance of the idea by those folks opposed to doing much of anything right now. We need EVERYONE to participate. It's what makes the most sense to do frankly, because money is what Uni needs to see. We need NUMBERS of people... new folks buying the DVD's, but in lieu of that all of us banding together to spike sales will be a good alternative.

Someone spearheads it, my BSC and anyone I'm affiliated with is in and will work hard.
