So, a while back I get these 2 Alliance bills. They look pretty. Real neat like. Then I decide to purchase one of those Alliance Currency packs from a vender. These are all copies of the real bills which were made for the movie, not the 'real' props.

What I was thinking about is making some sort of artwork, framed , somehow using the currency and some of the various Serentiy / Firefly posters I have. Not for sale, but simply cause it looks neat ( Hoping it does, at least )

Since the Curency pack came all sealed and such, does it make sense to use those copies for such stuff, or will those be worth something down the road? I know Nathan and others have passed out 'real' currency while at Cons and the like, stuff that was pinched from the props dept, etc...

It's a slow Saturday morning, and I just was wonderin', that's all.

Any input ?

The value of items, especially items -designed- to be collectible, is highly unpredictable. Items which are subject to replication by fairly common means have to bear greatly against fraud as well.

I haven't seen the money up close enough, but if it can be scanned and printed, it's going to be hard to protect the value. Does it have any hard to duplicate features? Micro printing? Halographic bands? Special paper?

Original packaging always helps; in part because the packaging can be harder to replicate than the money itself.

Finally, will it appreciate? If they hold to their commitment not to 'print more', my bet would be that unopened packages in original condition will hold or increase in value. Perhaps greatly if additional FF/Serenity shows/movies are published (and since I have every confidence in the long run that will happen, it's a sure fire money maker). If you really want to make money, the trick is to catch the peak, or at least not hang on much too long.

If the 'actual prop' money is distinguishable from what was produced recently, and it is hard to replicate, I'd put good money on those increasing in value.

It's a reproduction of the bills used in the BDM. I have a package too.

Nathan did mention in an interview that he left the set with "bags" of Alliance money. He usually signs the bills before passing them out. KNTR had one up for one of it's first auctions to raise money for KidsNeedtoRead.

So, what are you doing w/ yours ? Leaving it in the package, or did ya take them out and enjoy them?

Enjoyed them, and put them back until I can figure out a way to display them.

When you figure out some ideas, I'd love to hear them. The cashy money is too pretty to keep stashed away, out of sight.

As I've mentioned, I'm kicking around an idea to frame it along w/ a Firefly/ Serenity poster I have, but I've yet to act on it. Just in the idea stage.
