The version on the DVD is missing some gags. Notably:
- the Milennium Falcon flying through the ship (from the beginning of "Objects in Space"). Think of the Falcon flying into the Death Star in RotJ and that's what this was like
- Nathan Fillon joking around during a scene from "The Message" (he just kept popping up)

I can see why the first gag was deleted (who wants to pay royalties for that?) but I'm not sure why the second one was removed.

Also, there may be more missing that I just don't remember.

Ok I watched the original gag reel again, and there's a lot of stuff that's been trimmed out.

Get the original here: http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=42.

- The 'Love Boat' part (again, why pay royalties)
- Lots of little slip-ups where folks swear
- A 'how much is that geisha in the window' song during the shooting of the opening of "The Train Job"
- an awesome segment of Wash being interviewed by the Alliance in "Bushwhacked." ("I wasn't in to hairy women when I met Zoe...")

Worth watching but I can see why they slimmed it down for the DVD.

They swear in the commentaries, and I don't mean "rutting" or "go-se" or the like. Also, I see spoofs on Star Wars and Love Boat all the time on TV, so I don't see what the problem is.

The full gag reel is definitely worth the download!

Spoofs are one thing, but the gag reel used actual footage from Return of the Jedi as well as the Love Boat theme song. To qualify as a parody, you have to alter a significant portion of a song (something like 40%), and using film footage is a no-no.

If you are able to post to this site, you can deal with getting the longer gag reel--which is really worth it, at 20 minutes of FF mayhem and hilarity. You just need to download it from the previously mentioned site, and as long as you have Quicktime (which you probably do, and if you don't you can download it for free from Apple's site) all you need to do is to launch the file and you are good to go.

If your internet connection is really slow, that could be a problem as the file is quite large: about 54,000 KB (54MB). Try it, and if that doesn't work I am sure one of us would burn you a copy onto a CD and mail it to you. . . .

Also- If you can't download it from here, and you have Quicktime, you can get it in 4 parts from here: versaphile.com/download/firefly.html.

That's the way I got it. Only took 4 hours on my good ol' dial-up connection. Worth every minute, in my opinion. Funny stuff.

Does anyone know why Windows XP won't let you download Quicktime? OR do I have some sort of download block I'm not aware of? Don't spend hours figuring this out, just if anyone knows I'd appreicate the FYI.
Thank you,

JoJo

Now dont get me wrong, I am a huge Fan but I really prefer the DVD gag reel to the D/loaded one except for the geisha song absense. It just seemed to me that the d/loaded one drags on with some pretty inconsequential stuff whereas the DVD one is nice and streamlined.

I love the long one, but then I'm a sucker for bloopers.

Btw, I have successfully used my new DVD burner to burn a copy from my hard drive to a DVD disk (for my mother, who has an ancient PC and dialup and will never be able to see it otherwise). So if anyone really wants the longer one on DVD and can't deal with the dialup download, I'm happy to burn a copy and mail it. If you're willing to send back the $5 or so cost of the blank DVD, that would be lovely.

Just email me directly to request: lee@leeheller.net

i just downloaded the original and I have to say that of all of the things that got cut, there was just no reason to cut the blooper from The Message where it's doing the pan-around and Mal shows up with everyone. I laughed so hard at that - Nathan Fillion needs to do more comedy. You can tell he'd be great as a comedy leading man because all throughout his bloopers he never cracks up, he just stays serious, and that makes the gag funnier. Cheers.

I absolutely and utterly second that. It is not only screamingly funny in its own right, but it's a hoot to watch the rest of the cast cracking up--the look on Morena's face, or Jewel just laughing herself silly.

I guess they had to cut bloopers that were x-rated for language, but the rest of it should have stayed!

Ok, so I'm a wee bit late on this topic, but I just got my firefly DVDs last week and a friend of mine told me that the bloopers were shortened on the DVD. She then told me the longer version was here....only thing is, when I got here, none of the links work....does anyone know how I can get the gag reel, the whole gag real...I can tell you...I'll so wait the four hours to see the extra bloopers that weren't on the disc in glorious Quicktime...I mean the one from The Message, just reading about it cracks me up.

So can anyone help or am I in deep space without a catalyzer?

Here's the link I used, which also worked just a little while ago:
http://www.versaphile.com/download/firefly.html
Can't download it at my home computer (I don't know why, I must be computer illiterate too) so I watched it at work. I nearly died from trying not to laugh too loud.
My favorites were the Message scene, Wash being interviewed by the Alliance, and all the scenes cut short by a cell phone.
*Mal grabs Vera and holds it to his ear* "Hello?"

I made a bittorrent for this at
http://ffly.dnsalias.com

As usual, if you download it please leave your bittorrent download running for a while afterwards to help with the bandwidth.

It's a program which distributes large files by spreading the download amongst all of the people who have a copy of the files rather than having one huge central server.

While you are downloading, it can be uploading the parts you already have to other people spreading the load and making it faster for everyone.

A torrent file tells the bittorrent file how to find out where the pieces are.

http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/ for more information and the program itsself.

OMG! Soupcatcher! Thank you so much for posting this link. I've been trying to link up to the gag reel with no success. I got it with your link. I laughed myself silly (think i lost 5 lbs.) Favorite? Mal showing up all over the scene in "the Message" episode scene. particularly with the accompanying music. Too frickin funny!

I'm glad that link is still in business. I couldn't find my copy of the gag reel and a lot of the earlier links aren't working anymore so I was really happy to find that one.

I may be a bit biased but that's the BEST gag reel that I've ever seen. The Message scene with Nathan goofing had me rolling. I also love the look Alan Tudyk gives at the end of the Love Boat spoof (and those pictures of the actors in previous roles - man I'd forgotten how bright clothing was in the eighties).

I shaved off my beard for you, devil woman!
