I'm asking for help but think I may be beyond help at this point.

If a person (ok, you caught me)...If I'm going to start watching Firefly, what is the name of the episode I watch first?

I started downloading "Train Wreck". Then I saw "Serenity" listed as around 90 minutes long and figured that had to be the pilot, so I downloaded that.

Then I looked on the internet (because I just wasn't sure and wanted to watch these things in order!) and found that "Serenity" is the name of the movie that hit the theaters AFTER the series ended, the one that (I assume) continues the story.

Wikipedia has two lists of the shows in order. One contains the order in which they aired and the other is the order in which the producers intended for them to be seen. ?????? Wouldn't the producers have aired the shows in the correct order? What the hell.

So now I'm not sure if the "Serenity" I downloaded is a show or the movie...though I'm thinking it has to be a show because if it were a movie it'd cost like $10 or something. If it IS a show...I don't know if I should watch it first or last or what.

Can anyone help me? I'd like to watch this stuff in the correct order.

Maybe I should just go to Best Buy and buy the blasted discs. I just really like the whole iPod thing. I have enough boxes of discs sitting in shoeboxes on the floor of my apartment and don't really have any room for more before they start tumbling down. If y'all can't help me I may have to break down and buy furniture and then my friends would drop dead from shock and we don't want that. :)

LOL... well, I just so happen to have MY SHINEY BOXED SET *coughs* right next to me at the moment!!! As to them not airing them in the proper order, F-x execs are rather... well... stupid and, yeah, they did just that, aired the 2nd episode as the pilot instead of the actual first episode... *grumbles* If you want to see them the way Joss intended them to be seen, you should watch:

Serenity
The Train Job
Bushwhacked
Shindig
Safe
Our Mrs. Reynolds
Jaynestown
Out of Gas
Ariel
War Stories
Trash
The Message
Heart of Gold
Objects in Space
Serenity: The Movie

Also, WELCOME TO THE 'VERSE!!!

You'll know your watching the correct "Serenity" if it starts with a big old war scene, as opposed to bits falling off a ship...

Happy viewing!!!

Serenity was the pilot episode. It was two hours long, but Those That Cannot Be Named never aired it. Serenity is also the name of the movie. The Train Job is the second ep. Then:
Bushwacked
Shindig
Safe
Our Mrs. Rynolds
Jaynestown
Out of Gas
Ariel
War Stories
Trash
The Message
Heart of Gold
Objects in Space
Those Left Behind (the comic book)
Serenity (the movie)

ETS: Drat! Browncoat 2007 beat me to it!!! LOL. Welcome to the 'verse. Buy much merchandise and spread the word!

The pilot episode is called Serenity, so watch that first. The Train Job is the 2nd episode but Fox aired it as the pilot.

Use the Wiki entry to compare the intended order with the release order. I recommend you watch them in the intended order.

Chances are you'll want the DVD set because of the shiny extras.

The movie, also called Serenity & often refered to as the BDM (Big Damn Movie) should, IMO, be watched AFTER you've seen all the Firefly episodes. Beware of spoilers - don't be tempted to peek.

I'm sure you'll enjoy both the series and the movie, look forward to seeing you back here with your thoughts on them.

Actually, given how that job (and, for that matter, most of the crew's jobs) turned out. . .

(Oh, and don't forget "Dead or Alive," the unfilmed script. You can find it right here: http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=45 )

They did? Really? My mistake. I thought on one of the commentaries Joss said it never aired.

How I hate Fox.

Oops! I mean, F*x.

Dudes and dudesses, it says right on the back of the plastic dvd case thing, that "Serenity" aired on December 20, 2002 (my B-day), which I do dimly recall seeing.

I think it's also cool to watch the Firefly eps in number order.

0. Serenity (it's #79, but who cares)
1. The Train Job
2. Bushwhacked
3. Shindig
4. Safe
5. Our Mrs. Reynolds
6. Jaynestown
7. Out of Gas
8. Ariel
9. War Stories
10. Heart of Gold
11. Objects In Space
12. Trash
13. The Message

--------------------------------------------------
Find here the Serenity you seek.

Why that's just crazy talk. If you want to watch them out of order then I recommend watching them in the order aired just to see how much sense it made. Maybe it will make you go: huh?
Aired Order
9/20 Train Job
9/27 Bushwacked
10/4 Our Mrs Reynolds
10/18 Jaynestown
10/18 Out of Gas
11/1 Shindig
11/8 Safe
11/15 Ariel
12/6 War Stories
12/13 Objects in Space
12/20 Serenity-the pilot.

Then wait to watch the never aired:
Trash
The Message
Heart of Gold

Then wait some more and watch Serenity-The Movie.

What a way to tell the story.
