SISTER

...I have my very own, magnificent, original leather browncoat made by Tristan!! of this very board!! Contact him to see if he's still doing them...this one is SOOOOOOO COOOOOOOLLLLLL!!! I'm thinking of moving to a colder climate so I can wear it all year round... ((If he see this, or ifyou ask him to, he's got some pictures of me wearing the browncoat and I don't mind at all if he posts 'em!) He's also nearly single-handedly built the uniforms for the 76th...so, ifn' ya can't find him here...go find him there! Cheers.

Well, let's see - the original ones were made by Jonathan Logan - http://www.jonathanalogan.com/, and I've heard he will do special orders but is VERY expensive. Hey, he does custom work, so it's gonna cost.

Next, the "official" replica dusters are made by Abbeyshot - http://www.abbyshot.com/products/ps-firefly-browncoat.php. Again, a bit too much for my pockets, but I've seen one of theirs at their booth at DragonCon and it is a beautiful garment!

Like the previous poster said, Tristan does some excellent work, and is much more reasonable from what I've heard. Still, it's leather/suede we're talking here, so not cheap.

A lot of western-wear stores will carry canvas dusters that come very close to the look of a browncoat, and I've even heard of people finding coats at thrift stores and modifying them.

Best of luck!

I recently got a coat, which was not a replica, not quite the same color, and not the same shape as Mal's coat. When my sister saw it she immediately declared me geeky (or was it nerdy?) beyond repair and prayed to the heavens above it was all a hallucination because she apparently didn't want to be related to someone who got a "sci fi coat."

Apparently it is possible to get a browncoat without knowing you've gotten a browncoat.

I got the thing because I liked how it looked (though I didn't think it looked like a browncoat) and it is quite possibly the most comfortable coat I've ever tried on.

It should be noted my sister has nothing against Firefly or Serenity, she even periodically asks if there is any news, but apparently she didn't like what she perceived as me getting a fashion from a TV show.

I'm not really sure if I had any point in saying the above.

Wonderful story, ctc.

Your sister sounds like a lady of great taste and discrimination, who should be given an orange knitted hat for Christmas.

Sci-fi coat.
Lovin' it!

christhecynic,

Your sister watch Desperate Housewives? Just wondering. Cause you might want to mention that this Sunday's show will have clips of the new season. And there is a new husband on the show an OBGYN and he has been working out...getting ready for those desperate housewives.
