Right click on it Teela, then choose save target as. Save it somewhere and open it.

Metroman, that was really fantastic. If the bonehead's at fox had done promos half as good as yours we'd still be on the air.

Wow. Great work! One minor little thing though, the soundtrack had some annoying 'clicks' about halfway through the trailer.

Here's a friendly MPEG version of the trailer.

Metro Man gave me permission to temporarily host this 20 MB Mpeg version of his fine video. Our mutual goal is to promote Firefly to residents of Earth before it got used up.

Many thanks are needed here: 1) Metroman for a rockin' trailer! I could only hear the .WMV version despite having VLC player (cross-platform a/v decoder for Macs and just about every other OS) until 'Tash (insert huge-mongous thanks no. 2) translated the file into mpg and made my night!

Thanks ever so much!

That was awesome, it was extremely well done. I love the way you showed a little of Inara's skin scenes.
If I may make a few suggestions:
- Adding the CG scene in Serenity where they go to "full burn," and leave the Reavers behind in the shockwave generated from it, would certainly impress the uninitiated and the newbs.
- If you have access to the DVD boxed set then you could also add clips of the deleted scene after the "Battle of Serenity Valley" and possibly a sound bite of Zoë informing the Doctor about what happened after the battle and how both sides left them all there.
- How about a clip of Wash and one of his quotes? His question about "Yo-Saph-Bridge" in "Trash," or even better, his little "science fiction" in "Objects in Space" and Zoë’s reply? I laughed at them and they add the element of a little comic relief.

I know that this is long and I may be overstepping my bounds (as well as showing the full extent of my Geekieness), but I'm in a good mood and these all seem like good suggestions.

- For Jane, you could add the dinner scene from "Serenity" where Simon asks Mal what Jane's job is.
- For Kaylee, you could use the scene from "Out of Gas" where Mal and Zoë are talking about Wash and He makes reference to their new "genius mechanic" and then cut to something with Kaylee in it.
- What about a clip from "Heart of Gold" where that (I can't remember her name) Madame was talking to Mal about him not telling her the truth about Inara's feelings for him. Then you could cut to a scene with Inara, or something.
- Perhaps include a shot of an Alliance "Cruiser" when you have the sound bite of Wash announcing one's imminent arrival.

Note: In most navies, cruisers are usually lighter vessels. There are usually much larger and more powerful ships in the service than they (those of you who have experienced the stupendously well written "Honor Harrington" series of books by author David Weber, you will know what I'm talking about. This is a shameless plug for my favorite author of all time but, what FireFly is to Television, Honor Harrington is to books; except that Honor Harrington was recognized for the absolute genius it was and published by a faithful publishing company and not dumped in an red-fogged-vision-rage causing stupid decision by some equally stupid executive somewhere.)

I kinda' lost my train of thought but you know what I was talking about. Please note that these are just a few (dozen) thoughts I had.

Also, these suggestions would make any trailer require a pretty big chunk of time but I was thinking that the one you've got could be the teaser trailer, the pumped-up version that I'm suggesting could be the full-length trailer.

Just a thought. And I just noticed that you said that you were low on web space so you may just want to forget everything I just said (if you had time to read it all).

Wash: "... that sounds like science fiction."
Zoe: "You live in a space ship, dear."

That's really it, isn't it? If the Fawks trailer had told the truth, so to speak, instead of torturing the material into its narrow bottom-of-market target, which the show wasn't, of course, the broadcaster might very well be sitting on a hit show with huge potential earnings.

But I also ask: How could anyone not be interested in a show such as portrayed in the Metroman trailer? It has everything going for it, including scenes that covered the needs of the loin-brained and bullet-brained (not that I'm immune . . . heh heh).

Man.. that is some excellent work. Truly. In fact, I just barely registered just so I could comment because I was so impressed.

I only have 2 minor suggestions, and none have to do with the scenes selected for the trailer.

The "in a future... torn apart... " etc. It's slightly cliched. So one thing I thought that might tweak the cliche a little (and isn't that what Joss is all about anyway?) would be to change the torn apart to "forced together" or something similar. Because isn't that how the war actually went?

The galaxy ISn't divided or torn apart. It's forced unification. The totalitarian regime is called the "Alliance" - a sci-fi stereotype so perfectly turned inside out in this show. In almost every other sci-fi show, the Federation or the Alliance is a sign of good.

So I think it would pack more punch, and be more in keeping with what's actually happening to reflect that cliche reversal in the trailer.

Secondly.. The "one man" part just doesn't seem to fit given that he's leading a whole crew of rag tag outlaws and travellers and fugitives on the fringes of space. One man doesn't keep flying. The whole crew does.

And, again, the one man term is just so cliche.

But honestly.. I hope I don't come off as being too negative or cynical... because I loved this clip a lot.

THank you for sharing.

I totally agree with your analogy of having computers at a decent level of youth! Ahhh, the
creative things we could have done, and careers
might have led in totally different directions!

Right now I'm making a copy of my vhs Firefly eps
for a friend who's computer doesn't read scvd's.
Bad reception and all, I played them to death and
enjoyed every minute, so I'm sure my friend will
fall in love with FF, too. So I'm off!

I'd have to agree with those two suggestions:

Quote:

change the torn apart to "forced together" or something similar

and

change the "one man" to something like "one crew".

Looks great. If you have time you should definitely use the DVD version, then you could do a high-quality trailer. I'd do it but I don't have any way to rip the DVDs! Every time I try to rip DVDs it always fails in one respect or another.

Wow, that was a lot beter than I was expecting...

I like the 'forced together' idea...perhaps you could somehow referance the fact that the good guys *lost* the war. This is always one of the most intriguing aspects of the show to me: I describe the Firefly universe to people as 'What it would be like if the Rebels lost'.

Did you only have access to the pilot ep when you made this? Because it seemed like all the clips came from that...

One other suggestion - I'd end it with something, you know...inspiring. Like one of the cool things Mal says. The "not my best day" quote is cool, but it's funny. I'd end with something serious...but maybe that's just me.

Liked the music, and I particular liked the Badger parts, and how you did them.
