Heh, when I was finally conscious and coherent enough to check the applications e-mail yesterday, there were EIGHT new apps in it, and only one was a duplicate from the Con (he wanted us to have his e-mail address).

35 of us marching, and we did look shiny as hell. Thanks again to everyone who made the inagural march as special as it was.

NVG, thanks for the rum. I did indeed let it breathe, then let it sit in the warmth for a few hours, as was instructed, and I can attest that it had an interesting effect on little MsG, as she woke up the next morning not hung over but still a bit drunk.

*sigh* I miss everyone like crazy, and it's only been a few days. Thank the gods for the internets, or I would truely be going insane right about now. Hopefully it won't be another year before I get to see some of you again.

I'm so happy that people are asking and talking about the 76th. Spreading the signal one wave at a time right?

As to other things.

I heard about the rum. Magda and I even went looking for the rum after it escaped her room on Sunday night. We had to interrogate an awful lot of Spartans, but to no avail. None of them would admit taking it.

We finally tracked it down on Monday night at Tristan's bar.

I don't remember sampling it though. Or was that the second drink? The first being the vanilla vodka? Now that I think about it, it might have been the second drink. I'm a little fuzzy on the details.

Shiny stuff. I'd gladly interrogate spartans for it again.

Well, they were kind of confused by the interrogation, and I think a search might have been a bit terrifying... I didn't want them to run away before I was finished.

Though we did find some vodka in the process...

We thought it might be the rum in disguise, but alas, after further investigation it turned out not to be...

The Sailor has been good to me more often than not. I don't think I've been hung over from the Sailor Jerry mixes (even through a whole 750Ml bottle), but I have woke up still drunk a few times on it.

Glad everyone had such a good time. I keep finding more pictures throughout the internet. It does a heart good to see friends featured in pics by total strangers.

Can't wait to make a trip out for the 76th. Sems this gorram scenario is next Friday and I've done little to prep. I should have acquired the costume pieces anyway as I found out there is to be a costume contest Friday night before the battle ensues.

ah I see you two are calling it interrogation now..new euphemism then??? LOL Not everyone can say they were presented a screwdriver (the drink not the tool) by a pack of barely clad, very nice looking Spartans....

NV- much joy was had by all:) Only wish you could have been there too.

Speaking of those hard-copy applications (nine of them, by the way!), one thing I neglected to do was leave a space for contact information....so if anyone here knows of anyone that filled one out, please get in touch with someone from the 76th to pass that info on. It was one of those "Aw, hell" moments when I started reading through them and realized I would not be able to contact them....

Hey we have a Zeph posting on here!! Hello Darlin'!!

I am loving all this enthusiasm from those left behind!! Thank you - you were all spoken of and wistfully at that! Vex and I were remembering that we 'met' here at FFF.net while those at D*C were partying for real and we were scurrying off to darkened corners with Jayne & Mal-clones provided by Dancing Neko! Remember that anyone??

An Amazing time was had by all! trust me - you'll want to be there next year if only to catch the spirit of it all!

Oh and for those who are interested consider this advance warning that World Com is scheduled for Sydney, Australia in 2010!!

Proud,Proud,Proud! Can I say it again? Ok I’m PROUD of you guys (and gals). You’ve made me a very happy browncoat. Now I don’t want to hem in on all the DragonCon joy my fellow browncoats have had but by putting up the thread here I am assuming that it’s for conversing with the fellow brothers and sisters in arms that were at the Con and getting feedback and opinions from those that were not. I woulda loved to have been there with you guys (I was in spirit) but knew I could not. Now on to what I could tell from the pics, vids and your posts. Below are questions, observations and opinions about DragonCon and Firefly/Serenity fan participation.

First, NVG’s post of having the 76th be a battalion of uniformed, disciplined, respectful group of marchers I am 100% in agreement with. You guys did this and it’s the first thing that stands out in the pics. I can only imagine how many folk that you’ve inspired to join our cause with that alone.
The Companion Guild and Mr. Badger were also a joy to see ( yepper I saw Badger too) and to any other fan marchers that I didn’t recognize or didn’t see I raise a glass of mudders milk to you.

Now for some questions. How did all of you guys get those “SHINY” military helmets to put on those goodlooking heads? I mean did everyone make a trip to their local GI Surplus stores to acquire those? Now, I know a lot of the 76th made the trip the Atlanta by mule (cars) but I’m sure some went by shuttle (plane). How were you guys able to get by airport security with guns ( although simulated) and military looking equipment? With my luck trying to get on a plane with a weapon (even a fake one) woulda landed me in a jail cell next to a guy named Harry. The line “ You ain’t gonna be pitchen” comes to mind.

Ok moving on. I guess it’s a good thing the 76th did their duty staying between the Companion Guild and the Spartans but in one of the pics I noticed members of the 76th sporting a lot of red clothing. Maybe letting the Companions and Spartans mix would have increased our numbers a bit. I mean we are both small groups fighting a bigger foe.

I’ve recognized Tristan and MSG in the pics but others I cannot place a name with a face. It doesn’t matter though, you all are GREAT!!! I do want to thank Sister for the “play by play” of how some of the events took place. It means a lot to hear what went on instead of just imagining it. Makes me want to go even more next year. I love to hear more if you guys get time and want to post.

ROCK ON, Z

Hi Z...I can answer a few of your questions.. Firstly, 98 percent of the uniforms you saw were hand-made by Tristan!! (Yes, he is amazing...and no we didn't lock him in a basement with piles of material and a sewing machine for a year...altho, I'm sure to him it felt like that at times!)... Secondly...I had a hand in the helmets (of which I am sooooooo very proud!).. We had discussions on the proboard about the look of the two types of uniforms...and out of that came a find of a type of helmet that could be gotten (when they're in stock)...Being an impulsive sort, I bought ten of 'em and practiced with different spray paints...once Tristan and the others in command gave the okay..I started buying, painting, selling and shipping them all over (with a goodly supply at Tristan's for those that would need them at D*C)... That's ALSO how a number of the weapons made it to Atlanta without a number of our group being arrested! Some of our members came from lands (Oz) where you can't even buy the airsoft rifles. (Oh, and that was another discussion on the board before we all decided on what model we all needed to carry). Others who were arriving by plane pre-mailed their weapons to those of us who were driving in to avoid homeland security freak out. One of our members, Lost, was actually in charge of and did a great job with the 'loaner' arsenal making sure that everyone had what they needed and wanted to march! Oh, this has been SUCH a fun year getting ready...I'm hoping desperately that we will continue to grow so I can continue to paint helmets! (I had about 7 that I took to Atlanta for anyone who wanted a different size/etc. and ended up donating them to the SEBC table so they could sell 'em for their good works.)...those are the questions I could answer...if'n ya have others...ask away. (And please do consider joining us! We want to be even bigger at D*C next year!)

Good morning fellow browncoats. Sister thanks for the info and btw you’ve done a great job with the helmets. I might add that Tristen also did fantastic work with the uniforms. I’ve seen a couple videos of the parade on Youtube and the 76th independent battalion really stands out. The picture of you guys pointing your weapons at the camera is impressive. I dare to say that had the group been at Serenity Valley the Unified army woulda turned tail and hauled a$$ away from the battle and the war may have turned out completely different. Course that would have changed the tv show FF and Mal and his beloved crew wouldn’t have made their home on that little transport Serenity. Well what’s done is done. When Firefly returns maybe the 76th will be able to engage the Unified troops in another battle and scare the pants off those purplebellies.

Also I am considering joining the 76th but there are a lot of activities and family stuff that would likely keep my participation at low ebb so I’ve been holding off joining. I would love to make it to DragonCon next year and be involved with the fan movement for getting more FF/Serenity. You guys looked like you had a lot of fun and I’ve really enjoy meeting the folks I’ve been posting with for over a year. Well, I’ve got a year to make it happen. Thanks again for the info.

Z raises a mug of mudders milk “Salute”

Ps: Just to add, I think all of the FF/Serenity fans did a super job

I have a lot of pics of the promotion ceremony and the BBQ as well, I just haven't gotten around to posting them yet (D*C just ended for me yesterday).

zzetta, if you are interested, go ahead and join up. We had almost 200 members by the time D*C hit, and only 35 of us were able to march. If nothing else you can see how the discussion (and derailment) goes on the proboard and how we sometimes get focused on the tiniest little details (which helps us to look our best).

As for Serenity Valley, well, it's in our (fictional) history. We actually got the name for the unit from a deleted scene, the one where there are fields of people just laying around dead or dying, and the med ship flies overhead (the original opening scene for the series). Zoe says "we've lost 4 more from the 76th" and this our unit was born. Hell, we even have some fanfic about members who died in that Valley.

Hiding out in Georgia doesn't sound half bad.
D*C always messes up my seasons;
it's usually hot when I leave town,
it's always so hot and humid in Atlanta,
then I get back home and the weather has cooled down to the high 60s.
Always makes me think I completely missed summer. Bah. BAH, I say.
