Firefly Home Universe... planets? systems?

Im trying to get an understanding of how the background is set up.

Is this one solar system? or is it a couple of systems?

How many planets are in the system. Are they inhabitable?

Is there a document that covers these details?

How far apart are the planets? How long does it take to fly from planet to planet?

Im asking this becaues I would like to run a roleplaying game in the Firefly universe. I really like the show. Ran out and bought the DVD :)

Any help here would be good. I noted the database on this site. It gives a lot of individual pieces of info. Im looking for more particular information that whats listed. thanks in advance

Joel

No one really knows if there are more than one system, it's never covered in the show. (Though it seems liky that it would be more than one system with the amount of planets there are...)

By the way, is this a table top RPG your going to do? If so what system are you going to use? (D6? Storyteller? D20? D12?)

In a deleted scene Mal says there are 70 Earths.

"Well, we're still flyin'."
"That's not much."
"It's enough." Malcolm Reynolds and Simon Tam - Serenity

Of course, that means terra-formed Earths. Not Earths-that-were-Earths.

My personal theory is that it is a closely clustered group of Stars.

Though, I really have nothing to back that up, so take it as you'd like.

Someone should come up with a FIREFLY MAP.

I have to mention that the database on this site is the most accurate (and quite possibly the only database of places) there is.

I have been one of the people working with Talrius on compiling all of the places. We've taken all our info straight from the show itself by using transcripts, reading the closed captioning and watching and re-watching where we can.

Its been a long process and its still continuing as we're busy people and I havent worked on my part for a while.

And I believe the quote was not just "70 Earths" but "more than 70 Earths"

As far as if its one single solar system or multiple systems or what, that is still up for debate. There has been nothing solid enough yet to indicate what side of the fences to stand.

My theory is that whether its one solar system or multiple, either way it looks as if there are more moons that have been terraformed than planets. Think moons orbiting gas giants. But some of the places named in the database doesnt exactly say whether its a moon or a planet(oid).

Hope that helps.

Hey, we have had discussions of these points over on a yahoo group I started: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GURPS-Firefly/

My intention here is to develop a RPG in the GURPS system.

There was a long discussion of this recently in another post.

Personally, I'm in favour of the "one system" theory for a number of reasons, which are documented on that thread.

My group only D20s. I play the other games. Im thinking of using the Blood and Space Rules by RPGObjects.
There are fairly simple ship building rules and there is also a good economic model.
Its a good suppliment. 116 pages with the ship examples. Lots of good trader info, with space marines. Lots of flavor. That should do the trick nicely. :)
