SIRTHOMAS

Hey to all. Some what knew to everthing on this site, but definitely not new to FireFly. After I saw the Serenity, which by the way was about 15 times and still counting (3 in the same day), I was left with a major problem. I knew that the evils that are Fox had caused FireFly to go down more so then the goram Reevers, but Book’s story was still hanging over my head. Who was he? Where did he come from? All these questions about this man and I knew that I could not return to the series and just wait till my questions were answered. My hope would be, besides the obvious of FireFly coming back on the air or Serenity II, possible a book on Book or just something. Does anyone else feel the same, or does anyone else have some knowledge that I do not on this matter.

hi - look on the general board for an earlier post on book - i'll bump it up for you.

feel free to look in the blue sun fic rooom for SOLACE, a story i wrote which explores possible Book history... and the BIG question most fans ask - which i won't SPOIL... a lot of people here have opinions i'm sure they'll share.

my question to you is - where do you think joss was going with the shepherds long term?... it's a nice one to ponder....

hey and welcome to the board!

Joss loves Book. You may not think so since

he killed him

but it's true. He keeps Book to himself in hopes that he will be able to that story someday. Joss's refusal to tell us about Book is either good or torturous. Good because we might get Firefly in some format or torturous because we may never get more Firefly.

I can tell you the short comic book series Better Days will have the whole crew in it. You may want to read them when they're finally released early '08.

There are thousands of fan ideas about Book. You could probably Google a slew of them. Everything from secret operative onboard watching River, former general atoning for the evils of war, to born again smuggler shining the light throughout the verse. What do you think?

sirThomas,

Yes, we will know someday. Joss has said he will reveal it someday. And Inara's story too.

Right now, hope for more Firefly/Serenity rests with the Serenity Collector's Edition DVD (Release date: 8/21/2007)

Also, there is also a new Serenity comic book 3-issue coming out in Winter 2007. Serenity: Better Days. What happens to the crew when a job goes smooth. Set in the time of Firefly.

I think it would not be hard to think that perhaps Book new all about Miranda and that was what turned him to God and a life of service and solitude. But I really don’t think that he was a spy gathering information just because of all the things that he went through for the crew, plus the alliance killed him.

I think, also, that book was something much higher then general. My main reason behind that thought is the way that the officer reacted when he saw Book's ident card in the "Safe" episode. He acted like he had never seen someone with those credentials before.

But truth be told this is what really pisses me off about unfinished stories. I guess I’m just lazy because I would rather have the story teller just answer any questions that way I don’t have to think about it myself.

Joss indeed has said that he continues to keep Book's story to himself because he figures that one way or the other he'll figure out how to tell the story in some sort of narrative form rather than just telling us.

Recently, he even expressed some interest in the possibility of burying Book's backstory within the forthcoming Firefly MMORPG, as something players could discover as they played over time.
