Better late than never

Looks like all that rotation of "Serenity"
on HBO Asia has a few channels interested.

"Firefly" will be premiering on C/S this August 2007,
as either the lead-in to ongoing Season 6 of "24",
or else tucked between "Bones" and "Prison Break".
C/S is one of the most popular cable channels
here, and if the show rates well, might then get
picked up by semi-affiliated broadcast channel
RPN 9

Some kids that I've asked say they're excited
about "that new Serenity spin-off", impressed
that "they even got all the original movie actors!".

Cheers.

That is so funny!

I wonder why they called the Serenity spin-off Firefly. That is so strange. Why didn't they call it Serenity?

Glad to see you're excited about this FireflyPassenger!!

Whereabouts in the Philippines are you Horge? I am guessing Manila though I could be wrong... I left a chunk of my heart in the Philippines - it's a beautiful country with the most amazing people! I will immediately email all my friends and let them know to watch out for it!

The series is presenty being promoted as
"Joss Whedon's FIREFLY"

Check out a few screencaps from the TV plug

I left out the portions of video from the

those before ;)

It's on tonight (here in the Philippines, 'course)!

The premiere's airing just a few hours after
HBO showed Serenity.
Firefly's skedded Monday nights 8:00 pm on C/S
leading in to "Heroes".

Heavy promotion on the channel in the past week,
with cast interview snippets, etc.

AAARGGGHHHHH!!!

They're airing the episodes out of order!!!
They kicked it off with "The Train Job".

At least here was an interesting 30 second intro,
describing the history of the Alliance, Independents, the difficulties of border planet
life, and particularly of captaining a smuggling ship, voiced by Ron Glass...

then a dissolve to the bar with the belly dancer.

Oh dear. They're airing them in Foxed-up order? Argh indeed!

Those lead-ins are original, BTW - didn't get on the DVDs for some reason.

At least the Philippines has you, Horge, to straighten them out. Big job ahead for you! I'm looking forward to an influx of new Asian fans to this board as a result of this airing.

"Big job" is right...
Or maybe not. The people I enticed into watching
Firefly last night seem to have enjoyed it
enough. I want to let them find out stuff on
their own, and only help them when they ask
(mostly by pointing them this-a-ways, hehe).

The Philippines has some of the best cable TV packages in all of Asia. They are light years ahead of Japan, Korea and Thailand just to name a few. I travel there several times a year and always look forward to the TV programming. Jack TV rocks!

Just read on someone's blog that August is Sci-Fi Month in Asia. Not sure how true that is, as it is kinda generalizing over many, many different peoples, but I like the idea of sci-fi month.

Sci-Fi month, Griz?
Not here in the Philippines, I'm afraid.

I'm glad someone likes Philippine cable, MAEKCHU!
I'm worried about the (increasing) number of
cable channels here, though, and the trend of
genre-specialization going on.

Pretty soon there will be a Sci-Fi channel,
as C/S (ostensibly "crime/suspense", and hosting
everything from Law&Order reruns to Prison Break and 24)
is overweight with S/F shows like Battlestar
Galactica and more obscure ones like Eureka,
Threshold, Invasion, etc. etc.

I like it better when good S/F shows share space
with more 'mainstream' fare, so that a wider
audience can be err... assimilated :)

Having a gun will let you keep it"
