Don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet:

In OOG when Mal and Zoe are first looking at our girl (Serenity) and Mal is talking about his grand plans, when Mal says "maybe a cook" somebody drags one of the cables on the floor away. Gina watches it, looks up (obviously at the person dragging) and laughs. Looks like she's smiling at Mal unless you spot the cable. Next shot, most of the cables are gone.

Wacky fun.

I was surprised that it wasn't mentioned on the commentary.

The Message

Jayne's hat first has hay in it, later it seems he's cleaned it up, but some hay reappears again in one scene while he's in the cargo bay.

In the commentary for The Message, Alan mentions a continuity error after he stole 'the big red button' from the set when he thought they were done and later they had to re-shoot some of the bridge scenes...but I couldn't find it.

Don't know if anyone wants to start a new thread for this, but in "War Stories" after Zoe comes and gets Wash back and they cut off Mal's left ear. They show Zoe and Wash walking out of the room, then back to Mal. In that screen his right ear is cut off, not his left ear.

Also, in The Message,

I always thought that was because he was rolling around in the hay filled box that Tracey was delivered in.

One little inconsistancy that I noticed was during the commentary for "Shindig" the costumer lady (I'm to lazy to look up her name right now) stated that Zoe necklace signified her bond to Wash and that she never took it off. Well, in the flashbacks in "Out of Gas" she is wearing the necklace even though she has yet to meet Wash, or is just meeting him for the first time. She also takes it off when she is nekkid in the bed with Wash, so she does take it off, which contradicts the costume lady.

The first time I watched The Message, I noticed another hat blooper. When Jayne first takes his hat off when they're all around the coffin in the ship, there's a shot following that one of someone (Mal, I believe), with Jayne to the side of him, with his hat firmly on his head.

Another blooper (unrelated to OoG) is at the beginning of "Our Mrs Reynolds"... when Mal says farewell to the Elder, boards the ship, and closes the ramp, notice that there are several bushes near Serenity, not to mention a few colonists... notice that when the ship takes off, they are in the middle of a massive desert, with nary a bush or a colonist to be seen... of course, considering the pressure that the effects folks are under to produce movie quality FX on a TV budget, the glitch is pretty minor...

One thing I noticed a couple of times is the size of Serenity seems too large, notably in the teaser in TTJ (in the far shot), though I haven't analyzed that one too closely. The one I really noticed though was in "The Message" when the police ship is parked next to Serenity. Serenity seems to completely dwarf the police ship, like that ship would have only taken up half the cargo bay, and it definitely seemed larger than that before. Plus Wash seemed to imply that the police ship was larger than Serenity when Mal asks why they couldn't just come down and look for them. Has this struck anybody else? I really like all the effects work in general, but this just seemed weird.

Here's a glitch: look carefully at the opening sequence of Out of Gas, watch the stars near serenity -- especially to the lower left. You will notice that some of the stars move with serenity, while others are stationary -- looks like a sloppy cut and paste job. ;)

Actually, that stuff is not stars, but bits of debris which were blown out of the cargo bay when Mal snuffed the fire. Since Serenity had stopped accellerating, it was still moving with the ship. So, this is pretty much the opposite of a blooper; a subtle bit of continuity which shows admirable (though, as we've seen not infallible) attention to detail.

The best part is, Serenity is gone! I think Zoe must have taken off with it.

When were all the episodes filmed ? Check the finish date ... this might shed light on the problem at hand ... not to mention shows in some cases were originally shown out of order ...

In the pilot, when the Reavers come back to the planet looking for Serenity, check the size of Serenity compared to the Reaver ship. Sometimes the Reaver ship looks huge, then in other scenes, both ships look not so different.

In Bushwacked, when Jayne is telling Simon to get suited up and come along, he loads his Smith & Wesson revolver, and holsters it. Said revolver has a C-More(TM) electronic dot sight mounted on top.

Later, on the ship which has been attacked by Reavers, he is holding a completely different revolver. It appears to be a kluged up Colt 1860-type cap and ball revolver -- no top strap over the cylinder. It also appears to have a fast draw-type hammer ... and no C-More sight.

Shindig = Inara switches from Atherton's right arm to his left arm in between takes.

Serenity = (Hard one to explain) When preforming the crazy Ivan, the thruster on the side of serenity flips backward, however IIRC its the port (left thrustrer, this would make Serenity spin counter clockwise, yet in the next shot, the port thruster is strait ahead and the starboard thruster is backward.

Large continuity error in alot of episodes = Every time the two side engines are on/glowing while the ship is in space. They are turboprop-hybrids of some sort and cant operate unless they are surrounded by atmo/oxygen, like Jaynes gun.

In Jaynsetown, when Simon is acting as the buyer the foreman mudder slaps him on the back and leaves a muddy handprint there. However, when we see the group from behind walking up to Jayne's statue we see that the muddy hand print is gone.

Also, IMHO, Jayne calling River a "genius mind reader" in "The Message" is reasonable since it is common knowledge that she is a genius and even Jayne has figured out by now that she is intuative.

Not exactly a blooper, but laughable:

Before the DVDs came out, one of my fave, most-remembered scenes was Shindig, Mal just stabbing Atherton for the sheer malice of it. But watching it on DVD a couple times, I eventually noticed that where they show Mal stabbing him ... two or three times ... it's SO obvious the blade isn't even breaking the fabric of Atherton's clothing. I don't need to see a lot of blood in my TV (though I HATE when people get stabbed/slashed and the blade comes out totally clean), but if you're gonna do a closeup of someone getting stabbed, rig the freakin' effect right ...

(or would this be the third time I've posted today and turned out to have remembered wrongly?)

I'm not sure if this counts as a full on blooper, but... in The Train Job, right at the end when Simon is stitching up Mal's shoulder. Mal lets out a little yell and if you watch Sean's face closely you can see him start to laugh, then kind of clear his throught to cover it up. Kind of a cute little moment.

Normaly I am very cautious about jumping to conclusions like this, however there would be no need to have fans on the front of the engines if they did not need an atmosphere to operate in. Also, I believe that in one of the comentaries, as Serenity leaves the atmo Joss says the engines stop because they don't work in space, I'm gonna watch the commentaries for serenity/train job now and I'll let you know if its in those two. Im not a nit picky person I just think its intresting :)

Just catching up on this. I don't think it's an error at all: the engines have fans because they -can- work in atmo. It's entirely reasonable that they'd work differently in atmo vs. in space, because different things are more efficient in thick air vs. an empty vacuum.

Also, Joss says, "And then the engines cut off, because it's space." Not because they don't work in space, but because there's no friction to slow you down in space, so you get going in the direction you want, at the speed you want, then shut everything down and let inertia do the rest, until you feel a need to change speed or direction.
