On a side note, I'm almost done with Dresden. *sigh* What a depressing thought. At least Deathly Hallows is coming out this month for my magical fix. But then no more Potter!

Oh, and I think the interview went well, but I'm still not sure about the commute. If it wasn't so far away, it would be a nearly perfect job. It's temporary, wrapping up at the end of September, and all my classes are starting mid-October, so that would work out nicely. And they're sure they can work with my D*C trip, too! I'm supposed to call them back tomorrow

I really hope I don't end up doing Jury duty instead

Make sure you do the math to see if it is worth it. It would be bad to see in a few months that the gas expense is financially killing you slowly. And if you have to buy something very fuel efficient if you haven't already.

I'm not sure how much I'll be making. It sounds like the hours are long and overtime is almost a requirement of the job () which should up the pay a lot, and I'll already be making more per hour than I ever have. And I have a Subaru. She's a good girl, and definitely the most fuel-efficient car in my price range I could have chosen.

Morning, Penguin! Last night must have been the "no sleep" night. I had a lousy night's sleep. The dog barked his head off at 1 AM, and we discovered a black pickup truck parked out front of our house. Not normal, and didn't belong there. Our neighbors are away; we are watching their house. Husband didn't like it (we had a few issues recently in our normally placid neighborhood), and got his Glock. He went outside and looked at the truck, and took down its plate. When he came in to give me the plate #, the truck drove off, which freaked us out. He ran outside, and discovered the truck turning around at the top of our street. Turned out to be our other (stupid) neighbor's 19 year old daughter getting dropped off by her boyfriend. Dumb *ss nearly got her head blown off by making out with her boyfriend in our front yard. :eyeroll:

We had a hard time getting back to sleep after that. If I see her today, I'm going to suggest she not do that again. Duh. :-)

I could use a whole pot of coffee my own self.

it might have been a night for it, whilst I slept my customary 6 or so hours of death like slumber my other half was up all night with a sinus infection.

Suffered a severe case of culture shock from Mavs post assuming that her other half was not running out into the night to confront the mysterious pick up driver with a percussion instrument (glock is short for glockenspiel in percussion notation). Right up with the time that I got stopped in San Fransisco and asked if I was carrying a piece, of course I resorted to the British trick of talking as posh as I can, which for some reason will get you out of most problems in the states!

herumph, it always gets me when the doctor asks me if there is any stress in my life to which the honest answer is no more than anybody else's and no more than a year a go when my stomach was fine. In fact less as my other will soon be in gainful employment and no longer needing my financial support!

AS for Hitch Hiker's, too many brilliant things to mention although, current soft spot goes to a song in the new tertiary phase radio show called under the ink black sky that me and my other half keep spontaneously bursting into for no apparent reason which confuses our friends no end.

Also, by force of repetition she came out with a firefly quote last night, waiting for me to get up and reach something down from the top shelf she uttered a perfectly delivered, "Faster would be better!"

The kind where, if someone were to come visit me from overseas, I wouldn't be forced to ignore him? The kind where I can more than just 'probably' have time off for D*C? The kind where I maybe find a job with less insanity? The kind where I can do things like go to the bank and the post office because they won't be closed when I'm not working?
I haven't made up my mind. I don't even know if I got the job. But I'm less and less inclined to want it.

But on the bright side I can find something on first shift hopefully. Maybe even like it.

And PR, you may not have a life for the few months that you have that job, but hopefully it will be good money and you can have an enjoyable one when you aren't working. It's only temporary.

If you need help with the sample I'm sure RIMG could send you a replacement. (thanks for the gif, Mavs) Or you could "prepare" your own.

And FlyVote says Mavs even has a virtual unemployment problem? C'mon girl. You gotta be gettin' close. We're cheering for you:

You gals right on the Masie-Dixie are so cute with your Southern-Not-Southern accents.

I haven't even begun to catch up on anything else in the way of news.

PR, I've sent an inquiry to one of my FinAid buds to see if she has any ideas for you.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Uh... I don't get it?

Well folks, loathe as I am to reply to myself, felt the need for a new post to say: I didn't get the job.
All that fussing and worrying for a moot point.
Oh well.
Was craving Subway tonight. Looks like they're hiring. Maybe I have a shot there

STINKINGROSE

Speaking as one who has done the fast food wage slave thing.. it's not as bad as it sounds. I *liked* working the back line food prep deal. If you have the right sense of humor the register can be OK too. Done it. Twice.
Grocery store cashier? Done it.
University bookstore cashier? Done it.
Waitress? Done it.
Hostess? Done it.
Fabric store worker? Done it. (just about covered habit too...)
Coffee shop? Yep.
Temp worker? Oh yeah. (ITT Hartford short term disability customer service representative, Chase Mortgage Bank receptionist, Microfiche duplication machine operator.. one day..)
Nanny? One year. Never again.
Intern at a communal organic winery? That too.
Gardener? Yup.
Nurse? Doin' it.

With the right attitude you can survive just about any job. Other than the one I have now, the highest paying job I had was through the temp agency.
Heck, try a short term temp job! Work the night shift or something so you have days free and you can sleep evenings, or sleep days and have your evenings free. It will get you in shape for staying up at the Con!

I have been advised that mercury is in retrograde which is why life seems pretty well f****d up for everyone in so very many ways right now.

Somebody go kick that little guy in his winged kiester and get him moving in the right direction, will you?!
