Just saw this on Whedonesque...no time to do a link.

Is it April Fools Day and nobody told me?! Nathan potentially joining a uber-successful show that I happen to LOATHE?!

This is just sick...

Jeeesh....our brave and valiant Captain possibly being reduced to a boy-toy of the week? Good for his career, bad for my Firefly karma.

Think of it this way guys. Our captain was on One Life To Live and Two Guys and a Girl, both of which are more like Desperate Housewives than Firefly is. While I'd certainly prefer him on the BDS, this isn't a bad thing, and historically speaking, the type of series he's accustomed to. The more of our captain on TV, the better.

I don't view it as bad at all regarding exposure for him. I only view it is bad because it's not something I could watch personally, even for him, and especially for a year.

And about the idea of him playing somebody's "boy toy"? He did that story already on OLTL when Joey Buchanan dated Dorian Lord, his mother's rival!!

I could handle watching a few eps. of OLTL again but an entire year of DS is a bit too much.

And forgive me for being blunt here, and I mean this in the nicest way possible really, but JJ Abrams is a gorram idiot for not hiring Nathan full-time on LOST. Nathan's a huge fan, I'm a huge fan...it all works, ya know?

Give him a break guys, it's a JOB. As much as I would wish that job would involve Firefly, we all know that isn't going to happen, and the man has to make a living. Frankly I'm happy for him. Good on ya Nathan.

And here's one more thing, we've all been saying he should be a star and it's frustrating he's not a household name like a lot of male actors out there. Now as much as we love the intellegent shows he's been in that shows his amazing acting skills it's mainstream that'll put him on the map, and you can't get more mainstream then DH. Just think, in a year from now his name will be up there with Pitt, Bale and Ledger. Then as more good roles come to him he'll have more leveredge in Hollywood. That's what it's all about right? So I see this as a good thing, even if I don't care for the show or the premise, it's all good for Nathan and his career. We can't keep him to ourselves forever. As much as we'd like to.

Congrats Nathan.

I just read the news on Yahoo and rushed over to share but, of course, not fast enough.

Quote from E-online article:

"...The Canadian-born Fillion has quietly become the leading man of the moment, having first made a name for himself as Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds in the Joss Whedon-created fan favorite Firefly and then reprising his role in the 2005 big-screen offshoot Serenity.

Fillion, who also starred in the short-lived series Miss Match and Drive (each lasting less than a season), is currently in theaters playing the loveably shaggy-haired, married obstetrician opposite Keri Russell's confused, pregnant and unhappily married pie-making expert in the indie dramedy Waitress. "

They know we love him from Firefly!

"Appears they've cancelled the show and we're still here. What does that make us?"
"Big damn junkies, Sir!"
"Ain't we just."

If this works out, I'll be happy for Nathan. I mean the man has got to eat. However, I sure wish he would be in a show where he plays one of the main characters, if not the main character. I doubt a show with an established ensemble cast where he plays just another boy toy is going to give him much screen time. I thought one of the problems with Drive was not enough Nathan. I love to watch him work.

May have been on the losing side, still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Good fer Nathan. Between Waitress and DHW, might be the breakout he needs into the big-time.

Not so good for his stunt double- he probably won't want a stand-in for most of his scenes-- :<)

SimonWho,

I will be watching DH with you. You never know...the writing could be the best since season 1. And with Nathan around...TV is always more enjoyable.

Remember LOST had a rough start last year? Well, I am glad that I stuck with it because the last 6 episodes were one of the best.

And I love the fact that Nathan's character is going to be paired with an older woman. That's something which you don't see enough of mainstream TV. We see plenty of younger women paired with older men. This tells me that the writers many be thinking of some new & interesting stories.

He's going to be paired with an older woman? Hmmm... shades of "One Life to Live" according to some of the scenes I recently checked out online.

I stopped watching "Desperate Housewives" halfway through the second season when it slid from groundbreaking quirkiness into mundane soap opera BUT I'll be watching it again if our captain is in it!

On DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, never watched the show. If Nathan is going to be on it, I will watch it. And I think everyone should keep in mind that with Nathan there is always a chance that Our Captain, the Real Alex Tully or Caleb will show up. Never know. Just like LOST, is Kevin a good husband, bad cop? No one on LOST seems to be totally good or totally evil.

Pretty sure I'll cave when (if) it comes time. With VERONICA cancelled and LOST not returning until February, there won't be much for me to look forward to next fall. I guess I can just record and fast forward everything but the Nathan scenes.

It would be good exposure for Nathan and may be just what he needs to catapult his career.

My wife watches the show, but I just never could get into it. I would watch to see Nathan on the small screen again though.

My husband just read an article about it. July 4th edition of the Toronto Sun.

I am pressing him to find it so I can put it here.

I dislike that show.

ON the other side of things, like others have said it will be good for Nathan, we all want that, I'm sure we would all prefer to see him back as the Captain.

At least its a job for him and we'll know where to find him. :smile :biggrin

I like what one member said, I'm sorry I don't remember your name as I right this and it never occurred to me to make note of it as I was reading.

It'll be good for him,

It's me I'm unhappy for.

Nathan always gets the hot women......he'll probably have his hands full of Teri Hatcher's plentiful bounty, something even Seinfeld couldn't get. May not all be as "spectacular" as it was 10 years ago, but hey ...like re-heated pizza...still pretty damned good!

Well I personally am a BIG DH fan, and if Nathan was on, it might just bump Hollyoaks off my top Tv programme spot.

To be fair, in my flat last year out TV could only get Channel 4, so DH, Hollyoaks and the Channel 4 News were the only T.V programmes I ever watched....

And guys, the whole point of ACTING is doing different characters. It's good for him to play different parts, different shows, and as others have noted, something more mainstream.

Although obviously he would QUIT DH if the chance for more Firefly came about. :D

Hi, sorry all it took so long to find this:

From the newspaper:

**************

Looks like Dana Delaney may finally be going on
Desperate Housewives. The TV veteran (China Beach) is in talks with ABC
about joining the cast next season – she briefly starred on Kidnapped last
season. Delaney was the original choice to play Bree, but she turned down
the role. Her new deal would see her character and Nathan Fillion move
onto Wisteria Lane with her daughter Lyndsy Fonseca (How I Met Your Mother).

*******

Also please check this out:

*************

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Dana Delany might be co-starring on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" after all.

The Emmy-winning "China Beach" actress was reportedly the first choice for the role of Bree (played by Marcia Cross), but turned down the pilot.

Delany is in talks to join the cast as a woman who moves to Wisteria Lane with her much younger husband (Nathan Fillion) and her daughter (Lyndsy Fonseca).

Delany most recently starred on NBC's drama "Kidnapped." Fillion is on the big screen in "Waitress." Fonseca's credits include HBO's "Big Love."
