*Sniff* I'm really touched by the lovely welcome back from all you gorgeous people.

I'm deciding that it is just possible that I didn't make a huge mistake when taking this job. Got through the utter hell that was end of term

(Highlights:
Me: "About a third of my students aren't going to pass."
Higher Ups: "They have to pass"
Me: "But they've not done half the work!"
Higher Ups: "They have to pass"
Me: "They were absent for half the year!"
Higher Ups: "They have to pass"
Me: "What do you want me to do, sit on them and tell them the answers and force them to write them down?!"
Higher Ups: "Yes"
Me: "Oh.... Okay then, but that doesn't seem fair to the rest."
Higher Ups: ".........They have to pass")

And now we're onto the fun that is dressing up in gowns and silly hats for presentation day!

So PR, all this waiting for interview stuff, I thought you were going back to college. Have plans changed?

What's so annoying is that they then get the same grades as the ones who did the work without so much 'help' and in time!

Plus I'm now in big trouble because I could only spoon feed the ones who turned up for the last week of term. The one's who skipped have still not passed. I hesitate to ask sarcastically if I should just write the essays for them for fear of what the answer will be!

Sorry, done moaning now, honestly!

I want to find out more about this Dresden phenomenon that I'm hearing so much about. If I was to Amazon the first book, what title would I be looking for?
I need a new obsession in my life to fill the void now that season 3 of Dr Who has finished (no more David Tennant to lust over every weekend! How will I cope?!)

The first book is called Storm Front it's written by Jim Butcher and it's really really worth your time
Oh and Em if they tell you to write it for them or to change grades..have them put that request in writing and save it...trust me they'll either back off or put it in writing which gives you leverage

No, but in the meantime I have to eat, and hanging on to my car so I can make it to class would be a good thing, too.
I did not qualify for a Pell Grant. I don't know what all I will qualify for since the financial aid office hasn't started looking at applications for the fall yet, despite the suggested date to get your info to them being in March. Currently none of my classes are starting until October (one of them may be switched) so I have four months of bills to pay, without threatening my D*C fund, before I can do work study/use the excuse of working too hard at school to the parents and hope they pay most of my bills.
Yeah. Stuff sucks.

Hopefully the higher ups will tell my teachers I have to pass

I'm so sorry to hear of the horrid money troubles PR. I wish I could grant you a reprieve and a rest to enjoy before the start of term. I would never have finished my degree without help from my sister. She saw me falling apart from working 8am-6pm at Uni in my final year then working 10pm-4am three nights a week at the evil Subway. Angel that she is, she offered to match my paltry wage to enable me to eat and yet still partake in a few more blessed hours of sleep! I shall never repay her for that! (Plus the holiday to Madagasca last year!)
It is sad that you do not have such a wonderfully generous (and rich) sister!

By the way, that was meant as honest sympathy but it came out a bit smug. Sorry!

HUGs Em I know what you mean...if my mom hadn't supplemented me during student teaching I don't know how I would have gotten through.. ( in the U.S. to complete their teaching degree teachers must work as a teacher for 3 months without pay under the supervision of another teacher while at the same time paying tuition )

Rose have you looked into student loans...there are quite a few where if your parents co-sign you can get all you need and pay it back up to 5 years after you get out of school:)

Best shot I have is grandma. She's paid half my tuition so far, so I don't want to beg for more money, but...

*edit* I'd prefer to not get a loan for it. I feel bad enough having a car loan. And the problem with getting a co-signer is, um, I can't. My mom couldn't co-sign on my car loan because she already had two car loans and a morgage in her name. My dad co-signed on it, and so now he also has two car loans and a morgage in his name.
Maybe they make exceptions for student loans.

Most of the time for student loans they do not really care how many loans you have. I would look more towards a Federal Loan (the name escapes me at the moment). They are better rates and they are paid back over ten years. You can also choose to pay interest only onb them (if they even have interest) while you are still going so that the payments will be less when you get out. That and the loans payments start out small and increase over the years (like when you find a real job) so starting out you are not pressed to pay back large amounts of money from the get go!

..... OOOOOOHHHHH! Its a Staford Loan. they come in two forms: Interest free and Interest. They will tell you the amounts when they finish processing you paperwork and you can use as much or as little of the total as you choose per term. they are great!

I don't have "Financial Need".
I don't know where they get their figures, but going to a community college at a grand a semester when my 'expected family contribution' is six grand menas I don't need any help. It's total bullshit, because my family sure as hell doesn't have six grand to just kind of hand to me, but FAFSA seems to think otherwise.
So, from the very very unclear information on loans, it looks like I can't get one of those either.
Because, you know, school is going to be my only expense for the next two years.

oh no there are 2 kinds of staffords...one is for "needy" and the other is open to all. I'd suggest you head down to the bank with your parents. They will be able to go over the options with you and find one that works:)
Yeah I love their definition of "needy" plus what about all those kids whose parents refuse to help them through college...how fair is it that those kids can't get any help( grumble)

Thank you, but can I confess my ignorance and say I have no idea what NCLB is?

Oooh, it's presentation day today and I've just been given my Gown and Hood to wear (plus that silly mortaboard hat that is supposed to make you look intelligent but just succeeds in getting you laughed at!). I am allowed to wear a Masters gown for the first time. It has a lovely deep red hood. Worth all that effort to get the degree so I can now wear my favorite colour!
