I was planning on starting this thread myself, but I'm glad someone beat me to the punch. Too lazy.

Glad to see TOY STORY on there. Really does deserve to be on that list. But like with any other list, there were some additions I loved, and some omissions that ticked me off.

The omissions I was miffed with was AMADEUS (one of my all time favorite movies), FANTASIA (I think this is classic Disney's best movie and a truly groundbreaking movie), THE THIRD MAN (one of the best noir thrillers ever made, plus the intro to Harry Lime is arguably the best character intro ever in movie history), REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE (which I only discovered recently, and is one of if not the best teen movies ever made), CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND (Joss lost his faith in God because of this movie, but I think it's meld great science fiction with religious allegory perfectly) and THE JAZZ SINGER (simply for being the first sound movie ever). And the one film in the last ten years that I think should have been on there is AMERICAN BEAUTY. There is no more perfect movie in the last ten years.

But in terms of what made the list, the one big leap that I most happy with was RAGING BULL moving up to #4. I saw it a few years ago, and it truly is one of the most powerful films ever, if only just see Robert De Niro near the end of the movie when he's in the jail cell, and he begins to punch the concrete wall, screaming "Why, why, why, Why!!!!!" It's the most desperate cry of human desperation put on film. That alone deserves it's #4 spot. THE GENERAL is now something that I have to find and watch (I was always more of a Chaplin guy than a Keaton guy) and the same for INTOLERANCE. Glad that DUCK SOUP went higher, and that if any of the RINGS movies got on the list, it was the first one. Of all the RINGS movies, FELLOWSHIP was my favorite. The feeling I got after watching that movie for the first time is the closest I'll ever get to seeing STAR WARS for the first time in 77. NASHVILLE and SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS are two new ones that deserve to be on the list, and PRIVATE RYAN and SHAWSHANK are two 90's films that earned it. SIXTH SENSE and TITANIC are ones from the 90's that didn't. They're populist movies that maybe were huge hits at the time they came out, but have already not aged well. Ten years time, I think they'll be left off the list.

Also, I always thought FARGO was a highly overrated movie (It might be the Coen's most famous movie, but it's not their best, IMHO), so I'm glad that it fell off.

And of course, 65 years later, KANE is still holding on as the best American movie of all time. And after seeing the movie a bunch of times, and knowing the behind the scenes stories and the innovations it pioneered at the time, it's a distinction well deserved.

I'm really glad that BLADE RUNNER got some love this time around (PS, Blade Runner in theaters this fall!).

When I looked at the nominees list, I was surprised to see a couple movies that maybe shouldn't have been considered. While I think SPIDER-MAN 2 and HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN are great, they don't belong on a list like this. Now, movies like DIE HARD, BRAZIL, NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, I think deserve to be on the list.

But that's just my opinion.

Also, Intolerance is pretty great, if you can get past the almost 3 hour length. THE GENERAL is fantastic though. Buster Keaton at his best.

Not sure about DIE HARD (I think I need to see it again to fully appreciate it), and BRAZIL is debatable (while I love it, it's more of a cult film than a flawless classic), but NIGHT OF THE HUNTER definitely deserves to be on the list. Bob Mitchum at the top of the basement stairs going "Chillll-dren." is one of the scariest movie moments ever.

Eh, Brazil and Die Hard are just a couple of my personal favorites. But you can't deny how great Mitchum is in Night of the Hunter. "Where's the money hid?"
