Have you done any scans to confirm it? I'd be interested in what you found. Because, coincidentally, mine's been acting up too. I just assumed that my ISP was being stupid.

But, I don't know if it's related, because I completely missed the badness a few days ago 'cause I couldn't connect (unless that was the badness). That, and it's getting better - the connection lasts longer before it decides to go away (although that may not mean anything).

My brother thinks it's the cables, because our TV nearby tends to act up (but not the other two upstairs). It could also be a problem related to Vista - goodness knows we haven't had any of those in a while, so we're probably due.

On the bright side, I caught the last half of Slither this afternoon. "My easy-going nature is gettin' sorely fuckin' tested." Brilliant.

Oh, and CSTS is Saturday! I'm taking my parents and a friend with me.

Hope everyone had/has a good day/night/whatever. Bye 'till (hopefully) tomorrow.

Welcome, gorramnspacetrash! It's so nice to see new faces at the cooler. I'll hereafter refer to you as GST, if that is okay. We tend to truncate names around here.

And speaking of which...it's just nice to be seen. I've been having horrible Net issues, resolved through a 2 hour desktop sharing session with those great folks at Verizon. It's a TCP/IP thing. Maybe. I don't know. I'm just happy to be up to speed. And connected!

No news on the job front, however. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, if anything. I am shiny, and no one is giving me a chance to show it. Gah, I'm frustrated.

I just downloaded Firefox for my home computer and the one at work. Compared to IE, it works like a dream.

After today, I have one week left before I quit working. Strangely, even though I'm hurtling towards oblivion financially, I feel pretty good. The calm before the storm...

I'm hoping it will fix my problems, too. Right now, my Net speed and connection are fine. If I close my browser and try to get back online, it might not be (which is why Verizon thinks its the browser and not their end)

In my experience these people are hit or miss. Some of them just have no idea what the heck they're talking about. One time my mom's DSL went out when I was visiting and she had me talk to the guys. They were so insane it was not even funny. If my mom had talked to them I have no doubt that computer would have been demolished. They wanted me to start uninstalling and reinstalling all sorts of stuff. Like IE itself. Do you know what a hassle removing IE from windows is? There is no way IE would be preventing me from connecting to the DSL. I'd at the very least be able to ping something. But nooooo this guy tells me I need to uninstall IE. I was like OK I'll do that and let you know.......yep done, didn't help *cough*moron*cough*. Finally I just hung up on that guy and tried my luck calling and getting someone new. Turns out they did some crazy remote update to the dsl modem's firmware that changed the password. Yes, there was actually a password you needed to supply to the modem to even use it.

Not saying this has anything to do with your problems Mavs. Just saying don't trust the support people too much.

That password thing is exactly the problem I had. Somehow, my modem's password and the TCP/Ip thingy password didn't match. Today's rep was very patient and she was wonderful - despite the fact she was in Bagalore, India (which I normally despise calling outsourcing...)

The first rep from yesterday was a ding dong. He wanted me to "get on the Internet" and "download a new browser". Uh...ok. How do I download a new browser if I can't flippin get on the Internet!!!

That's fine!

In the meantime, finished work for the weekend... HOO HA!!! Should be seeing 'Fantastic Four 2' over the weekend with a friend... don't have high hopes for this one (though I'm of the opinion that the interaction between the Core Four was nailed if nothing else). Based on the trailers, at least the Silver Surfer character himself seems brilliantly realised on-screen. I've read most of the Lee\Kirby run (including the first Galactus storyline) thanks to those great 'Essential' volumes Marvel brings out - and the FF is one of my favourite Marvel comics. Be cautiously optimistic!

We had some pretty strong storms roll through central Iowa this afternoon/evening. There was a tornado with damage about 5 miles or so south of me. I left for work about 4:30 just beating the storm. I decided to go to Wal-Mart to get groceries, figuring if it rained I would miss most of it while shopping........

WRONG!!!! lol

About 10 minutes into my shopping the lights started flickering...then they went out! I was stuck inside Wal-Mart for 45 minutes while some of the heaviest rain I have ever seen rolled though! The staff made everyone come up to the front of the store (that makes sense...that's where the glass doors are! lol). I stood around until the rain let up enough so I could leave.

WHEW!!!!

Um, a black eye and that's a good thing???

Morning, coolerites.

I had a good weekend, too. I took the tidbit to a carnival, ate wonderful crap carnival food, listened to a great Zydeco band, and watched my son ride the overpriced, rickety carnival rides.

Today is my wedding anniversary. 13 years married- We have nothing special planned, as we can't afford it, and Husband has a make-up softball game to play tonight.

I'm expecting a call from a furniture company, who is hiring someone to do what I used to do for the company that let me go.
