I got an idea for a game, but I don't want to make something that people don't want/won't play. So, if you guys could let me know how interested you'd be in this type of game, it'd be great

The story of how Miranda came to be is rather open; we only know some sparse details. This makes this point on the FF/S time-line ripe for game making. Well, that and the possibilities for lots of shooting (damn Reavers ).

So, I was thinking about expanding on this point with a game in the style of Killzone: Liberation*. Here are some pics and vids of its game-play:

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/killzoneliberation/index.html

Yes, it'll be Alliance characters. But, please keep in mind that this point on the time-line is pre-war. So, there wouldn't really be any independents to speak of yet. Also, I have a direction/ending that I think will make it worth it.

What'd ya guys think?

* This game would NOT a psp game.

Thanks! I'm hoping others do too and this thread is just getting bumped off the main page too quickly and/or people are waiting for something more concrete before commenting.

As a little update, I'm nearing completion of the script for the prologue and have a couple ideas for that longer part called the middle I also know /exactly/ how it's going to end. Though I'm going to be *very* secretive on that one

I'll be able to use almost the entire code-base for a previous game that I was working on (turned out to be *way* too ambitious to continue). So, proof of concept is completed for some technical details. I'll be bringing that code over to its new home some time in the next couple days.

This code compiles and runs as advertised on OSX (as both a Universal Binary and through MacPorts), Linux (tested on Ubuntu 7.04 PPC) and OpenBSD 4.0 (PPC - haven't had time to upgrade to 4.1 yet). One might notice the lack of Windows in that list; I don't have access to it.

So, at some point in the future, I'm going to need some(one/people) to do a Windows port. Though I have been somewhat mindful of these things to try to make this port easier. Also, all tech used runs on Windows so the port shouldn't be completely horrible.

I'll post a more official update once a website, etc is up. Though I'd still be nice to know that more than one person would like to see it if this is the case.

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

Neat idea! I'd be willing to test the game for Windows (I have Vista), once it gets to that point (and as long as whatever problems my ISP is having are fixed - my connection's been unstable for the last few days).

So far and for now. Though once the basic structure is in place, it'd be nice to have some help. And then once the graphics part gets going, I'll definitely need help. That is unless people want stick Alliance and stick Reavers to be running around

Little update, I've decided to split this project into two separate ones. One being the engine, etc and the other the Firefly mod. This way others will be able to use it if they want to. And I do see it being potentially useful for telling stories in worlds like StarGate and Ghost In The Shell as well. Basically, anywhere where a lot of shooting is possible

For the past while I haven't been able to do much work as I've been dealing with other things. These things should be over with in the next couple days though.

I've also been thinking about how to store the models, etc and yes, the first iteration will be stick figures. But, this makes sense given that the models have to have points of articulation and how they relate to each-other.

Still working on the website though. Going against the grain and actually having good documentation *sigh* Lots of work.

@Darkfly:

Looked at your MySpace. What exactly are your interests? You said design, but to me that could be on a number of levels. Do you mean story, level/weapon/etc design, etc?

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDEEEE!!!!
If you actually pull this off, then you shall be elevated to minor Diety-hood in mine eyes. I love Killzone ('tho, I ain't got a PSP, so I just keep goin' at it on the PS2)
What's the soundtrack gonna be like? I keep thinking that some of the stuff by Disturbed is good to shoot at cannibal burn outs with.

Could it have been something I said,
Or was it something that I did,
Did I ruin my chance, have you written me off?
Tell me, where did I cross the line,
And can I work my way back this time?
Will I always regret this decision...

Yes, I think any game that is Firefly/Serenity based would be great. I'm surprised that there isn't a game already out there.

There's a company called Multiverse that got the rights from Fox to make a Firefly game. So far it doesn't look like they've made any progress on it, and it may turn out to be vaporware, but the license to make a game has been given out.

Thanks for the kind words guys

@CaliforniaKaylee:

I don't think that the license granted to Multiverse was a general game license. I believe that it was only for a MMOG. But no, they haven't announced that they've chosen a development studio yet.

IMO, it'll be awhile before anything is done since the platform that they'll be writing for is still beta.

@alex21:

Thanks for the offer, but the current development is engine only. Once that gets to the point where modding should start, then the story, etc stuff will start. I don't think that this will be for a while since there's tonnes to do before I/we get to that point (e.g. I have to write a library for buttons, etc).

There'll be a post when that happens though

EDIT: Everything seems to have gone fine with the 'other stuff'. So, fixing up the site, writing down specs, starting coding, etc will start pretty much now
