Old thread at http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=29115 finally limped across the mandate after taking most of the long (for us here in Oz) weekend off.

Today's song title actually refers to the one-time approval rating of the current Prime Minister of Australia, who recently was far enough down in the polls to be giving Dubya a challenge for the title of 'Most Loathed (by their own population) Leader'.

Mavs - re your question about non-iTunes music to work on iPods, I'm not sure, but I think Apple are still being asshats about it and trying to force you to only use their music on their players and vice-versa.

I'm not sure, Nico. When I tried to import the song into my library, iTunes understood it wasn't in their format and I got a little "I'm attempting to translate this to iTunes format" box, but then was informed it couldn't be changed for some reason.

But this is the first time I've tried to import something that wasn't from their site, or from my existing cd collection.

*hug* for FlyVote!

From Wikipedia -

The Windows version of iTunes can automatically convert unprotected WMA (including version 9) files to other audio formats, but it does not support direct playback or encoding of WMA format.

Humm, I've never had a problem getting anything into iTunes format, but I don't know if it works differently on my mac. It generally converts anything I stick in the library automatically.

They may think their sins are original, but for the most part they are petty and repetitive.

So I guess the song I got for free was "protected" as it couldn't be converted.

Well then, I say to the Buddig company of fine lunch meat products and their "free music download program":

Things are good...sadly my internet access isn't the problem. I'm in the computer lab, it's just I have 30 kids to keep busy and working on a really dull computer program so there's a lot of me moving around and not much time to sit and type myself...
On the up side it was Annie's birthday on Friday and we had her birthday party on Sunday. She got a big girl bed, and I bought her a real pearl necklace and bracelet and 2 books. My sis in law ( Annie's aunt and Wyatt's mom) bought her a complete Cinderella costume. It was a big hit. She wore her pearls and the high heeled Cinderella shoes the whole party.

Ami and the kids are doing well, though Zachary has been acting out today. We got some new neighbors last week, and they have kids about the same age, and she is watching all 4 of them today (they are going to pay her to sit for them during the day).

Sucks that you're the responsible one. The other sound like they need their pay docked or something. Or to be shot.

MsG, I know you've mentioned having an mp3 player. Is it an ipod by chance? If so, I asked at the end of the last thread/beginning of this one if anyone knows how to convert a "non iTunes" song into one iTunes will allow you to import into your library. Apparently, the song I downloaded is not able to be automatically converted to iTunes format.

Mav mine is an ipod and as far as I know you save it then go into itunes and then click import in itunes. Then go to the area you saved the song in, double click on the song and it should import...

OK people here's my latest pondering. So, there's this great girl. Funny, cute, smart, sarcastic, outgoing, nice, independent, friendly, rich (bonus! ) like everything all rolled into one. She's 24ish and totally and utterly single. What's wrong with that picture?

My answer: her. My guess is she's scared. It's not like guys aren't after her. I know of at least 4 from people she's met while visiting. She doesn't even live in the same state as me. So, she can basically take her pick of guys. Now possibly the independent portion is making her not want a man, but seriously who wants to remain single forever? Not many people. I think her friends need to kick her into gear. It's not like the really good guys are just going to sit there and wait for her to wake up. They're going to go off the market and she deserves to land a great guy.

Am I missing something? I mean maybe she doesn't want to settle down yet, but still at least date somebody already. Besides it would make it much easier for me to block her out of my head as unavailable.

Morning all!

Zeek, just last night hubby and I were talking about a woman he works with who sounds similar to your lady friend. She's mid 20s, super cute (scratch that, she's straight up hot), a hard-core gamer, and one of the best programmers hubby's worked with, male or female (and that's really saying something). She hangs out with our group of primarily single gamer guys, and yet she's single. I've felt like taking her aside and telling her the same thing I've told my sisters -- with your stats, you literally have the pick of the litter when it comes to gamer guys, so hold out for a good one.

From what hubby has been able to gather, though, she's largely annoyed by the guys she works with and hangs out with. She's pretty intense about the two main things in her life -- gaming and programming -- and she can't seem to find a guy who can match her on both. She's looking for an intellectual equal who won't slow her down, and she's yet to find one. So she's single. There are worse things than being single.

Also, I'm a huge fan of Astonishing X-Men, Runways and Buffy Season 8 and reduced price transatlantic flights will soon be available online.

Not that I should be a focus of concern, but there was a very pressing and deeply personal issue that has happened recently. I've been cluing in folks who have regular contact with me over the last week. Mostly as a warning that I might be a bit off kilter at times.

My bestest friend Mindy was sexually assaulted early last week. She's gone to Iowa with her sister in fear that the guy involved will follow through with the threats he issued.

Reflecting on the crime discussion, it is obvious what I considered. But all the self improvement, non violent stance I've adopted, and the fact that I don't hate myself would all be thrown out the window for me to have an actual concrete consideration of re-establishing old patterns. I've nearly had to physically beat the cold stare from my face this last weekend. But one thought really resonated strong through my heart.

My friend needs me. I might not be able to be physically where she is, but I can stay within this state of being in order to, and at the very least, listen. I don't have to fix anything. It's not my place. But the level of emotional and moral support I can offer should be what a friend offers.

I am not going back to that cold place. It was self imposed and extremely detrimental. And I feel personally vindicated for having the sense not to go back. I actually feel good.

I'm almost done with Lost, DTH. I think I only have the finale left. This "answers" episode sounds like it's not a real episode.

Anyway, I don't think she's unhappy, but I don't know her well enough to know. I've seen this girl maybe 2 days per year for 3 years now. I've never once heard of a bf or even a date. Are people ever not in a dating place for that long?

I doubt she's waiting for me. We don't know each other that well and we aren't in contact any other time other than when she visits. She does know that if she lived here I'd be after her like a ravenous lunatic. Though that doesn't seem to change her composure around me. Not shunning but not flirting really either. I wouldn't rate her as interested.

"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

Holy crud. So many sub-threads. Would that be considered "backing"? (c'mon people handy with textiles)

NVG - I admire the restraint. And applaud the feeling good about the restraint. You are right about being there for her every way but Mr. Fixit. Unless you are her designated Mr. Fixit, you might find yourself in a no-win. And while going away to avoid the trouble this guy might try might say there isn't a Mr. Fixit locally, she is with family now and that show provide some safety and comfort. Retribution and revenge are not necessarily what is called for. Of course I'd still like to see her press charges, but that's easy to say about someone I don't know a couple a thousand miles away (although she's closer to me now, you know what I mean).

Zeek - I can only see two things (but that could just be my narrow view at work).

1) She's happy in her singleness like CK said

*glomps CaliforniaKaylee*

it's okay to be single; just because it's unimaginable to you, doesn't make it impossible for someone else.

2) She's had an unhappy happenstance like DtH said

*double glomps DesktopHippie, y'know, just 'cause (no offense CK: *glomps CK again just to be sure...*)*

perhaps to the degree of NVG's friend's trouble.

You say she already knows how you feel. I would let her have her space because if you push it, she might feel intruded upon. (True for either of the two scenarios.)

Agree wholeheartedly with Kel. Mindy will be in my thoughts, NVG. I'm glad she has you looking out for her.

Zeek, she's not interested? Then she must be INSANE! Okay, I'm kidding, a bit. But if she seems happy I wouldn't worry. My longest no-dating phase lasted just under three years! Truthfully, I'm pretty much avoiding the dating scene now too, since there's personal stuff going on and it would just make things messy. In all honesty, I never really set out to find someone anyway - I find it much more fun when you meet someone unexpectedly - so my dateless times tend to be longer as a result. It doesn't bother me. I see all the woe my friends put themselves through trying to find a guy and it doesn't seem worth that much hassle, especially since they always meet the best guys by chance. She's probably the same way.

The incident happened in San Diego and she went to Iowa after the reports and (I can't fathom this) the rape kit. Her husband is still down there for work (Navy).

He (in his own words) is a skinhead with friends. I know there are varying skinhead factions, but at face value... yeah.

And (you'll love this little detail Jimi) the offender was spun out at the time of the incident.

Derranged smile aside, I will put the beer to good use.
