It's SO BEAUTIFUL!

I was afraid for your sanity a moment ago. Beautiful in that it's out, or beautiful in that you've seen pics?

Well yeah, the pics are beautiful, but I mean everything it says. I just got to page 60, right after the Out of Gas script, and they're talking about the Backup Bash. I think it's so amazing that they inserted that in there (since they can't have been planning to put it in, as it wasn't that long ago) and before that I was seriously tearing up reading everyone's words about Out of Gas and what a special episode it was... It's just so very touching.

I've been loving it too, PR. I've already found a couple surprises in there, things about character development (some things I thought were cleverly planned were actually throw-ins in the scripts, but other things that seemed like ad libs were scripted) and the history of the Ariel ambulance (and the Recovery project).

I loved the BuB material, too! I'm still so aggravated that I had to leave after only a day and a half...

Oh, by the way, I did get a refund of my payment to BoosterEvents for Flan 2 from my credit card company... but not for the Sunday brunch ticket (which I paid for with PayPal instead of a card).

Here's a tidbit:

Cheryl Cain, the credited writer of "War Stories", admits that she didn't come up with Jayne's "I'll be in my bunk." That script was a collaboratie effort, and Cain thinks the line came from Joss or Ben Edlund.

(Likewise, FM! Sorry you got burned in the third degree. It was small, but welcome, consolation to get my credit card claim approved. I just recently got notification that the previously "provisional" refund is now permanent.)

Well, my local store had it. Several copies, actually (though the visual companions for At World's End bumped it far, far out of prominence). Whether it's officially out now I haven't actually checked (the first one was out in a few stores before its official release date) but I heard it was coming out in May 2007, and it's pretty close to the end of May now...

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

[geek moment]

Two things I am happy about, besides the obvious, that are in the FFCv2:

1) The Ariel Ambulance Rescue Group (AARG) is mentioned with photos! A whole page!!!
2) While I am not mentioned personally in the book, the group picture has Adam and Scott wearing buttons with the AARG logos I designed!

So I feel extry shiny!

And how cool is it for Adam (AARG founder) and Scott (the AA "finder") to be IN the book?

The Back-Up Bash was a Browncoat miracle, a phoenix rising from the ashes.

Flanvention was a sold out Firefly convention cancelled, the day before it was to start. Folks flew in from all over the world, Australia, Scotland, England, Germany and other countries as well.

Many arrived before it was cancelled. We were told it might be cancelled 2 weeks before then a week before they said all was fine it was a go. Even that Thursday they still said it was a go. It was not a go.

At 2 weeks noticed California Browncoats decided that since it was too late for many to cancel their plans, we would make sure those who showed up still had a great experience. Even those who had no plans to be there got involved in making sure something good happened. Money was donated online and plans were made. At 1 weeks notice the plans were dropped since we were told it was a go. That Thursday at 4pm Flanvention was cancelled and Browncoats rallied again. Adam Baldwin showed up at the hotel bar and spent time with the fans there.

The fans organized and the cast came anyway. Folks online contributed and an event that could not be planned was created out of the generosity of many.

It was a Browncoat miracle.

....?

What?!? You mean to tell me an event took place like this in just the way you explained it, and none of those FOX executives took notice? Talk about not seeing monetary potential! Those executives should have seen this event, and the effort that all the people put into it for what it was, or at least to them any way...MONEY! Lots and lots of money! You have to understand that people in general are very lazy. It takes a lot to motive people to do anything collectively let alone to do anything at all. A group of people were motivated enough to make a canceled event happen and they even rallied? OMG! I think I'm floored by this new information!

FOX made the biggest money making goof in all of television history....It is safe to say this right? I knew the show went down the tubes because of mishandling and misunderstandings, but I wasn't aware that the show failed not because it was bad, but because the people in control of it were short-sighted and rather stupid.

Fox is not too smart.

I firmly believe that that someone smart buys the shows and some dumb folks in marketing and scheduling ruin its chances and then the bad guy kills it for not performing.

I know I'm not the only person who persists in calling the DVD box set the complete first season instead of the complete series. I feel like if I keep hope alive, you know, hope will be kept alive. I still haven't watched Serenity (the pilot)! And I know how crucial it is! I just feel like if I don't watch it, there will always be something to look forward to until the next season comes out. Or when the movie comes out.

Just watched Ariel today and noticed something that I hadn't realized before because of the Firefly Companion Volume Two.

Page 103. The Cardiac Infusers. There is nothing attached to them in Ariel or in War Stories. Just never noticed that before. 500 years in the future. So much thinking went into the shows.

I havent seen either volume - will have to check it out, as I loved the depth my Buffy companion books lent to the series. however, I do find it interesting that it took 3 official companion books to cover 7 seasons of buffy, and 2 books to cover not quite one full season of Firefly. There must be a LOT of detail in there.

I can't even bring myself to call it the "Complete" First Season. I know there are shows that have 12-13ep. seasons, but Firefly wasn't meant to be one. F*X cheated us out of 8 or 9 more episodes for the first season when they killed it.

Yes there is. The two volumes contain the complete shooting script of every show as well as a vast amount of other material: photos; artwork such as costume and set sketches; comments from cast, writers, musicians, and crew; some material about the fans' activities, and so on. All in a heavy, glossy large softcover format.

The shooting scripts differ a bit from the "as-shot, as-edited" shows. Has anybody ever found a resource that has the scripts in transcript form (that is, as actually shot and edited)? If that doesn't exist, would anyone be interested in working on a project to do that?

You're telling me! I mean, I know all the quotes, right? Cause I go to all the Browncoat websites, and I just have to imagine how hilarious that this land/your grave dinosaur Wash scene is. But you know what? I compare it on waiting for a new season. You can't watch a season until it starts, so here I am. Vol 2 is better than the Serenity companion or Vol 1. They've really figured out what fans want with this one.

-Shooting scripts so that you can see what changed (because, face it, you've pretty much got the as-filmed memorized, right?)
-Behind the scenes tid-bits on writing, props, costumes, sets, etc.
-Memories of the cast and crew.
-And follow-up on the phenomena that are Browncoats.

I'm glad for the scripts because both my copies of the BDS are on loan out before the charity screening.

It was fabulous to see the article on the BBuBash. I wasn't there, but at the time the stories just gave me a chill about what a fabulous group of people this show (and Joss) has brought together. Fans and our BDH (including Christina, Greg, Tim, Jonathan and Clare) who gave their time and effort so people wouldn't be disappointed.

Do what you can to get to a CSTS screening and show what we can give back.

There are so many more of us than there were even when the movie came out. Some day, somebody with the power to greenlight is going to figure that out.

TERRI

Basically, I just skipped it. Didn't even put that DVD in at first. The first ep I watched was Objects in Space, as it's my fave ep, then when backwards from there. Stopped before I got too far.

June 2007 Charity Serenity Screenings
Goal: $100,000 for charity.

Reading the scripts in Volume Two and there is a pic of Saffron in a box. And don't remember thinking it before...but that is the second girl in a box in Firefly.

Just checked and there is a picture of the boy in the box too (The Message episode)
