This is after all humans and animals have gotten out safely, what dvd/cd would you be willing to go back for? What one material thing could you not stand to live without?

My choice would be the Buffy Chosen collection. Secondly, if I could manage it, would be Season 2 of Angel.

I love the rest of the seasons of Angel and Firefly/Serenity more than I could ever express to anyone, but I absolutely could not live without Buffy...and season 2 of Angel.

Firefly, Buffy, Angel, can all be replaced, except for the signatures.... My Marillion Vinyl can't. 2 boxes of vinyl... I'd sacrifice 2 limbs and 1 sense (other than hearing and sight) for them.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I would save the one thing it would be impossible to replace; my jump drive and all the files on it. And my whole computer if I could rip it out of the wall fast enough. I have some band shirts that are signed and stuff, but those are theoretically replaceable, as it everything else I own. The one thing I couldn't replicate would be my art, and all that is on my computer.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Crap. I don't have enough time for all my books do I? Well I guess I'd grab all of my artwork. Paintings, Sketch books, sculptutres and larger drawings. There's quite a lot. Complaining that there's no time for my books and movies all the way.

Wow. What a question. As I have sat here thinking about it, I would probably be found halfway to the door with all the stuff I "couldn't do without" around me on the floor. Most of my DVD's could be replaced, but my Laserdiscs are mostly out of print by now, and rarely show up on eBay except for fakes. I would want my Serenity Blueprints, and my Serenity and Firefly cards. I would also try to get the rare variants of various comics(Gunslinger, Wolverine, the signed Buffy poster by Joss and the artist)....

and that's probably where I would be overcome with smoke inhalation. (literally)

D'OH!!!

So who is he?
He's my husband.
Well who in the damn galaxy ain't!

1. Escape bag (backpack actually). Has copies and/or originals of important documents: Birth certificates, medical records, licenses, bank/mortgage/lender account & telephone numbers, vehicle titles, insurance policies;
and practical items: 2 decks of playing cards, prescription meds, spare credit/atm cards, cash, spare keys to everything, cell phone & charger, crank up radio/light, water purification gear, 12 days life boat rations, multi-tool, dive knife, compass, maps, handguns & ammo, first aid/field surgery supplies(external med kit, carabinered to the backpack), US Army survival manual & Ranger emergency field surgery manual, 2 rolls toilet paper, bar soap, "space blankets". Per person (3 of us): 1 pair BDU pants, 3 sets underwear/socks, feminine products for 2 weeks (for them, not me), toothbrushes/paste.
Foodstuffs & meds are replaced annually. There's probably more in it, but that's what comes to mind atm.

I put it together after what I saw happen in New Orleans. If we need to, we grab it and leave. Now.

2. Photo albums. The moments in time that they hold cannot be recreated. Some of the places no longer exists, some of the people have died, my daughter will never be that little again, and the joke that made my wife laugh like that is long forgotten.

The rest: I would welcome the opportunity to start again.

This list reminds me of a Heinlein novel (can't remember which) and my own jump kit.

NCBROWNCOAT

Getting ready to pack my hurricane kit as the season starts June 1 and the east coast is in the line of fire this year. That an living less than a block from the Pamlico river (see Hurricane Floyd in 1999) it's time to get ready.

Besides the obvious things that Flatop mentions (minus the knives and handgun)my laptop with a set of Firefly DVDs and the BDM, along with my autographed Mal comic are going into the car when the evacauation order comes.

The one material thing would have to be my computer, or more specifically my hard drives (though it's be easier to grab the whole computer). I have an enormous amount of stuff that would take forever to find again, everything else I own could be replaced. If I had more time I'd grab my signed CD's and a few of my books that would be difficult to replace (my sister's Elfquest books and my Elfquest books mostly) and my computer's CD wallet (lots of hard to find programs in there).

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

It would be really hard to rebuild my little home library, but our main computer and my baby drawer would be all that I would take. (The second would be more for the benefit of my mother, because exact baby blankets and little stuffed tutu-wearing bears that a person has had since an hour after they were born are irreplaceable... but, okay, I'm doing it for me, too.) My family could grab other stuff (my mom I think would try to get all our pictures in boxes into a bag, which is kind of a funny image)

I have two irreplaceable items in my house….

A bank calendar from the year of my birth that hung in my grandfather’s blacksmith shop. He died a few months before I was born. I had it professionally framed in a shadowbox with my birthday showing.

And

A show poster personally autographed by Grammy award winning blues artist Robert Cray. I caught him in at a hole-in-the-wall club in about 1984 when he was just coming up. I met him afterwards and he signed the poster. I saw him years later when he opened for Eric Clapton...

My Game Books would go out with the people in their trunks.

After the people and game books were out of the house.

My Browncoat (made by my spouse out of nice leather, not identical to Mal's but Im not Mal am I? ^_~)
My Vash the Stampede Mateba Metal Replica (My cosplay gun, ordering it tomorrow $709.00 delivered 1 of 50 in the world made by the artist who did them)
My autographed poster signed by the entire crew of Serenity (all 9 crew members).

I would cry thinking of my dying PCs (2 high end game rigs and 2 nice lappys), but such is life.

Browncoat through and through, more oft than not I have found myself adrift in the blask, wondering if I had enough in me to keep flying.
