Got John Scalzi to sign my copy of Old Man's War today at the LA Times Festival of Books!
http://www.sfreviews.net/oldmanswar.html

I also asked him to elaborate on this blog posting of his from 10/3/05...

Whatever: Serenity Box Office Thoughts
http://www.scalzi.com/whatever/003763.html

...because he hadn't seen Serenity yet, and I hadn't been able to find a follow-up to it.

"...also, when you talked about Serenity on your blog... Did you ever see the show, Firefly?"

"Oh, yeah! Yeah yeah!"

"And did you eventually see Serenity?"

"Oh, yeah! I like 'em both. I was actually disappointed that the movie didn't do better."

EDIT: Hey! Check it out!
Scalzi's already posted the pic he took of us all!

Nice! I just picked up Old Man's War last Monday with the first Harry Dresden book. Liked 'em both. Now I have 8 Dresden books waiting to be read and I'll probably pick up the 2nd book in Scalzi's series after them.

Scalzi's one of those writers who doesn't mind people downloading his writings for free, since he's confident that more people will go out and buy his books!

He's really quite serious about it!

Here's his first novel, "Agent to the Stars"...

Is no one else interested?

I'd've thunk more Whedonists would be Scalzi readers!

His sense of humor feels very much like Joss' to me.

Scalzi's Old Man sequels are on my "to get" list.

ya ha! i thought so! friend of mine picked up old man's war when it came out and we devoured it; i check out his sight (i guess this must have been before he mentioned serenity) and i was reading through it with my friend, and i turned to him and said "is it just me, or does the way he talk come off really really browncoatish?" we agreed, the way he wrote on the sight, his speech mannerism made him seem like a bc. so huzzah for confirmation!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

A friend loaned me Scalzi's Old Man's War this past weekend & I just started reading it yesterday. It is a very good book so far.

Never read Scalzi's stuff before, but I am liking it so far.

Scalzi has a daughter named Athena...

Athena Campaigns Against Her Dad

"Upon discovering her father is a candidate for president of SFWA*, Athena tells the voters what they need to know."

So adorable... and high-larious!

I am reading The Last Colony and was getting ready to start a Scalzi thread and saw this one.

The frontier setup of the Indian colonies made me think quite a bit of Firefly. It was there in the universe, but I didn't really notice that much of it in the universe until reading 'Questions for a Soldier' and now the 'Last Colony'.

I know he is physically much younger, but in the Last Colony I can't help but picture the retired John fitting in as the sheriff from the Train Job.

Hehe, Scalzi posted a blog entry May 24 warning that something he was about to try might blow up his site, and somebody commented that it reminded them of Mal's announcing the "little problem with our entry sequence"...

Thus began the outpouring of Firefly love!

Also, here's an MP3 of that panel I attended!
